Yeah there ain't much you can do, aside from rigging a antenna or something. The kernel won't affect the signal strength at all. That is all in the kernel. Plus if your buddy is on sprint alot of their phones use a six bar readout on their android phones for signal strength, where ours is only four. So if you have two bars then they have 3. You may have the same technical signal strength but just may be thinking you don't because of where yours only has four bars and they have six.

Hey pwn, how did you add the oc to the kernel. I know its in like the cpufreq.c and clock.c files and maybe some other ones but what else do you have to modify. If you don't care could you send me the oc files because I have got my github up(https://github.com/brandon14/linux_wx435kt-froyo)(I haven't merged it with my brothers latest updates, he went through and cleaned his source up a bit and added init.d support) and I am wanting to get the oc on this kernel and start building it. I know it builds and works as of right now!

And make mrproper cleans out all the files compiled on the last build, such as .o(object files for all the .c(c files) and stuff like that so that you don't have any old remnants of the previous build left over)
 
Okay hey pwn i got a breakthrough on the wifi issue. You know when you changed the SLAB allocator to SLUB then t SLQB, well that is what messed up wifi for real. I switched to SLUB on my last build, and committed it to github, then realised wifi would error out. I then switched back to SLAB and it works fine!!!

i see, so if its changed back to SLAB Umph kernel tests 9 to 12 should work perfectly
 
ill give it a try but i dont think its the SLQB, thats been in the kernel since the first v1.1 test. and b_randon14 its just one file, /arch/arm/match-msm/acpuclock-7x30.c
i can send you the one from v1, cuz one on my github is for 1.1 and has the vdd sysfs added to it

:confused:Where did everybody go? Did they do like I did and went to TG's port of cm7? I've noticed some of you there also.
 
Well pwn doesn't have this phone, and doesn't have time to work on it as much. But I have a kernel for CM7 and stock based ROMs, mantera has a MIUI and CM7 kernel, and Austire has a MIUI kernel. They all have the same OC tables and VDD voltage control support, the exact same that pwn was using, minus the 2.016GHz frequency addtition, but we have all added stuff to them. FOr example, mantera added a few governors and i/o schedulers I believe, as did austire. On my stock and CM7 kernel I have tweaked it alot with a JHASH3 update, TINYRCU patch, enabled THUMBEE extensions, ext2 mounting of /system, /data, and /cache, as well as many other tweaks. I believe Umph kernel is dead, but the kernel development for the Triumph is actually picking up!
 
OK guys, new to this rooting/overclocking business so please be gentle with your responses. Some background:

On 12/22/2011 after reading about the Umph kernal I DLed and installed it the file was named Umph-Oddballv1.zip. Right around the same time I also installed a 16gig SD card (AmazonBasics Class 10 microSD). Overall, the phone has run fine if I keep it at (or under) 1612800 in SetCPU. Values higher than that often cause reboots (although I've had reasonable luck with 1708800). I ussually have the gonenor set to 'Smartass', but it often reverts to 'ondemand' (see my list of issues/concerns below). So here are my questions and concerns...

Issues:
- Govenor doesn't seem to stick. changes back to 'ondemand' a lot.
- Have problems installing new updates from the Android market. DLs, but then fails to install. If I uninstall/reinstall this ussually works. Could this be the Kernal, or is it my new SD card?

Questions:

1) While I am happy with what I have (Thank You pwnyourace!!), is there a newer, better version I should be running?

2) How can I tell what version I am running? Does the kernal version in 'About Phone' reflect the version of Umph? (Mine is Apps_2.6.32.9-perf)

3) If Motorola/VM ever comes out with an OTA software upgrade to, say 2.3, will it install over top or this kernal?

Personally I used version 1.0. The 1.1 didn't work for me. As for the governor, look in to first posts. There is a file to delete. As for a newer kernel, there are some other kernel developers that have the phone. I like many, have moved to a cm7 variant. Look here for [ROM] in the title. The one by tickerGuy is stable, brandom14 made a kernel that's very fast. Whyzor (the one i use) made a mod from TickerGuy's that is very good on the battery.
 
Oh, and to add,I would lower the clock to 1.4
And as for the OTA update. I wouldn't hold my breath. Motorola seems to have thrown this together for virgin mobile to make a quick buck

HAHAHAHAHA! :D funny I like your enthusiasm I don't know what I would do if VM did an update whether it be OTA or not... But to answer your question IF they did you have the choice not to update, but if you did it probably would overwrite the kernel as well as rom.

THEN the question becomes, would you want to go with thier update, or one of the ROMs? My guess is "If you can read this, you're going with a ROM":D

And I'd bet the update would be just used for drivers and stuff to make theese ROMs even better.

Since it sounds like development of the Umph kernal is stalled (if not dead), I guess I should switch to another one. Thank for the recommendations.
 
So... I installed this rom, (please have patience, I'm NOT tech savvy) after doing the clockwork recovery mod. I installed the .zip from the sd card, and now my phone is stuck in an infinite loop of rebooting itself. I have a moto triumph on virgin mobile.... I evern tried factory restore from the clockwork screen, and it didn't fix anything.... Can anyone help me? I really don't have the money to go buy another phone... I know I probably shouldn't have done this, since I don't really know what I am doing, but I can read directions... I followed everything to the tee, and my phone, like I said, is stuck in an infinite loop of self rebooting....
 
Flash my stock rom from clockworkmod recovery. Its located in this thread somewhere. Probably quite a few pages back. You'll loose all data on phone but it will take you back to like you just took the phone out of the box!

I've been running the Umph kernal since the end of last January and have been quite happy with it. I resolved my setCPU issues and the WIFI works fine for me. However, I'm considering getting the HTC EVO V 4G that just came out and was wondering, can I safely do a 'factory reset' to my Triumph without going back to the stock kernal? If I do switch phones, I might want to sell or give this one away.

If you have installed this kernel, then you probably have clockworkmod recovery. If you factory reset from there it will format the /system partition and you will have nothing to boot to. If you follow the post for the noob proof stock ROM, you should be able to bring the phone back to like new condition.
