Root ClockWorkMod v5.0.2.7 (file system/recovery utility) update 01/12/12 FIXED

No, you need to find out if that recovery you have on your other phone is able to be on other devices, and if the source code is available, if it is how to modify there source code to make the recovery work with a Prevail

What level of experience do you have with programming and what programming languages do you know?

O it would have to that same one? I was thinking our recovery with that feature added. Wasn't sure how difficult adding that button would be. That just only thing I like bout intercept. Def not something I can do tho. Next time just tell me shut up stupid I won't be mad I promise

Thanks first of all your work . My install went fine but when i try to download from google play i get nothing and it doesn't show my device ,any ideas

Flash this in CWM and then reboot. It is an older version of the Market. Go ahead and sign it to your account. It will update shortly after you sign in and all should work for you.

Hi, I am having trouble restoring a backup here but let me give you a little background first:

I already successfully installed CWM on my phone and am running CTMod 3.6 for Prevail. I mainly did all of this to take advantage of enabling swap so that the sdcard can be used as internal memory for the phone. My phone has been running fine with CWM and CTMod and I couldn't be happier!

HOWEVER:

My mom has also run out of internal memory and wanted me to do the same thing on hers. I just got CWM installed on her phone but before I installed CTMod I wanted to make sure CWM backs up her "phone-only, unsynched" contacts, so I made a backup, but I forgot to install the CWM update so I had to delete the backup and make a new one after I installed the CWM update. (I assume this info is irrelevant but I put it on here just in case.)

So I got the update installed and the backup made, and to test it I had deleted one of her "phone-only, unsynched" contacts and was going to restore the backup to see if it would be restored or not before I go ahead and flash the ROM for CTMod.

Now I am knee-deep in shit and I have no idea what I am doing because when I attempted to restore in CWM recovery mode this is what the log said:

Restoring system...
E:format_volume: format_rfs_devi/dev/block/stl12
Error while formatting /system!

After receiving this message I didn't know what to do so I attempted to reboot the phone, but it shows the Samsung Galaxy Prevail in large text, and then goes to the blue-ish glowing "SAMSUNG" text but it just keeps glowing and then loops once every few minutes like it is retrying in the same place. I left it on for probably 4-5 minutes before I gave up and turned it off again.

I was able to connect the phone to my computer and I did copy the clockworkmod/backup/[my most recent backup folder]/ to my computer with no problems, and just to be safe I had already went ahead and copied the entire contents of the phone (although I'm not sure if that helps at all because it was just the phone connected as a USB mass storage device).

Now at this point I was being really dumb and I just thought what the hell, maybe if I restore to factory settings I will at least be able to get it up and running again to give to my mom before I leave for today, so I tried that but it is still looping at the "SAMSUNG" text.

I tried removing the SDcard and booting/restoring/wiping but still no cheddar.

I went into the advanced and debugging menu and selected "Show log" and this is what it reported:

Restoring system...
E:format_volume: format_rfs_devi
/dev/block/stl12
Error while formatting /system!
I:Formatting unknown device.

E:format_volume: format_rfs_devi

Error while formatting /system!

Has anyone had this problem or would anyone know what to do in this situation? I guess I should mention that on my phone, I had formatted and partitioned with EXT it before I backed anything up but I didn't do that on my mom's because I didn't want to erase her stuff before I knew what all would be able to be restored with CWM. So I'm guessing my mom's phone is probably RFS format? I actually have no idea but I do still have access to CWM on this phone if there is a way to find out from there...

PLZ HELP!!!

Try using Odin to revert to stock, rooted with cwm. And then restoring the backup. (also does the backup have any spaces or "/" in the name?)

Try using Odin to revert to stock, rooted with cwm. And then restoring the backup. (also does the backup have any spaces or "/" in the name?)

I am very unfamiliar with Odin, I used version 4.43 because it was the only one I could find that had anything to do with OPS. I am fairly computer-literate but when it comes to this stuff I am n00b-tr0n 9000.

I will google around and try to figure out how to revert with Odin, if anyone knows of any good guides on this topic please throw me a bone!:D

Once I get it reverted to stock, rooted, and then install CWM, will I be able to restore that backup that I created? :(

And no, there are no spaces, I left it named just how it was by default (just the date).

Yup that's the one, and the downloads have the version of Odin needed (and the drivers) in the zip...

welp, I just restored back to stock/rooted/cwm with Odin and the phone booted up fine of course, but when I went into cwm to try and restore it again, the same thing happened as before. I guess I'm just going to have to suck it up and break the bad news to my mom that all of her unsynched contacts are ****ed... at least some of them should still be on her old ipaq pda... if anybody has ANY suggestions, I'm up in arms here.

This app is supposed to allow you to browse your backup and remove files you need. Though i have had no luck with it, ymmv. the thing i was after was not very important... So i was not very patient. It never threw an error, but it just kept on loading... So i gave up. )

so every few weeks ill flash a different ROM to play with. i have 5 ROMS that i use and they are all set up just the way i like them and ready to restore. when i go restore i see my list of ROMS but its just military time and date. i never can remember which ROM is which. so...my question is...is there a way to rename them to say like hHBS, or CM7?? i tried renameing them in root file explorer. but when i went to restore it after i renamed them it wouldnt let me restore. is it possible to do what im talking about or do i need to do something different to get it to work?

yes can rename but use no spaces just leters and .'s

also if you can't get renaming with no spaces to work add name to front and just delete that part before restore

after using CWM with odin and i boot into recovery i go to install zip from sd card then choose zip from sd card and choose stick.zip and then yes install it says "finding package opening package update E: can't open /sdcard/update/zip (bad) installation aborted" what should i do ?

you want to use the restore or backup but not from sd card that way. and zips from cwm don't even go into the sd card zip part.

don't choose from sd card it will just be in cwm

I had same problem. Are you manually mounting partitions in cwm before install? That break installation. Just reboot recovery and install ctmod then formatter zip and reboot
