(VZW) Nexus 4.0.X Update Discussion

That's not very promising, no. Damn, I don't want a Gingerbread phone either but if the mid-call mute happens to me post-4.0.4, what choice do I have ? :(

It happened to me today as well.

I'm pretty sick of it now. This may actually be the end of me and Verizon. For some reason purchasing this phone didn't renew my contract so I may be jumping to T-Mobile if a fix for this isn't found incredibly soon.

Well, the Razr Maxx should get ICS relatively soon (e.g. by August I'd hope). So you could push them for that and then wait for the ICS update. :(

I really don't want a GB phone either, nor a phone with capacitive buttons or a locked bootloader (Razr*) nor a phone with zero chance of AOSP (Rezound).

Hopefully the One X comes to Verizon and AOKP can be ported to it relatively easily if the RIL is reverse engineered...If the One X comes to VZW and gets AOKP, this Nexus is being sold immediately.

I'm on aokp b37. Don't really feel like going back to stock. Is there a zip to flash which will update the boot loader and radios only by chance?

If you go to T-Mobile let me know how it is. Also. Which device would you get on T-Mobile?

It's been out for a while since the initial leak of IMM76K. Google for it and you should fine it - I'm pretty sure there's a flashable bootloader-only from the leak. And the radios are for sure out there to be had.

I forced the update today using the Google Service Framework method that many have used here. I finally got it to work and it found the update. The update finished downloading and it asked me to confirm whether I wanted to install. After confirming, it said that the Nexus needed to reboot to complete the install. The confusing thing is, the phone shuts down, reboots, and there is no evidence that any changes were made. When I go under the settings and select "about phone" it still says Android version 4.02! Anyone else have this issue?

Gee, the upgrade hasn't been push to me yet. Since I'm traveling and won't have time to deal with it might be a good thing!

Why didn't they fix the muting issue? Doesn't make any sense???????

I forced update tonight, and ever since my home button isn't working. Any suggestions?
Also, stock 4.0.4 non rooted.

well finally got the update. Don't notice anything different. Still no 4g at my house, but gets it in town. volume still sucks.

Haven't made many calls yet so not sure on mute.

Why were we so excited for this again?

I agree. My battery still blows and my service remains the same.

What changes should I really be noticing?

It's not all doom and gloom...

- I noticed the phone rotates from portrait and landscape a little faster, and a little smoother.

- The app drawer is a little smoother as well, so I guess those are the UI tweaks that have been mentioned.

- I haven't typed a long text or email yet, so I can't comment on the typing hesitation.

- I thought I remembered someone mentioning the screen behaves differently when pressing the lock button. I noticed the screen sort of fades on when unlocking, which is cool, but the lock screen behaves the same. Not a problem of course; just an observation.

Finally, Spousal Unit reminded me that I am eligible for an early upgrade in October of this year. We usually pass our upgrades to each other and that has worked out well in the past. So I'm just going to hang on until October, as I really don't want to go through the pain of begging/pleading/demanding Verizon to give me something different. I'll just buy something else at that time and be done with it.

Verizon support on twitter said they did a master reset after receiving the update and it fixed the mix muting issue. I'm not holding my breath but will do that when I get off work and see what happens.

If it works, I'll try it. That really should have been in the press release though.

What does this mean? Do we need to call VZW and ask them to do this for us? Is it phone/account-specific or tower-specific? I don't understand...

The VZW twitter response to me was:

We have had very positive feedback on the software update? Is this still occurring for you? If so, how frequently? ^MS

:( Yesterday was actually a good day. One 47 minute call and 2-3 short calls and no occurrences. But as it's entirely random, I fully expect it to happen half of my calls today and tomorrow...

For those who decide to try a factory reset from the phone's settings menu, you may want to strongly consider resetting Google Wallet settings beforehand if you have it installed and have set it up at any time. Otherwise you may end up with a bricked nfc chip. Just a reminder.

Great reminder!

Then it's BS. Because I did a full wipe/factory reset when I flashed this install of AOKP b37 which has 4.0.4 and the FC04/FC05 radios. I still have the issue.

Probably... however I'm giving the stock 4.0.4 rooted a go with a full reset and PRL update.

Great reminder IBT.. saw an article on that the other day.

Well, good luck. I'm not very optimistic for you, though. :( How often was it happening to you?

Also, I thought updating the PRL was a no-no on this phone (or all LTE phones?). There have been reports of "ghost PRL updating" which then causes phones to burn through battery like crazy. So beware on that...
