Just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless Executive Customer support.

Some new info:

Full Retail for phone: 499.99
In-store price with contract: 199.99
Online price with 50$ rebate: 149.99

She mentioned she did not believe there was a rebate for in-store purchases.

I spoke to them about:

  • The promised allowed upgrade from 3G to 4G unlimited for current unlimited customers
  • The fact that the Inc4G was announced 1 month prior to the SG3 but was not offered a pre-order and the SG3 was (allowing SG3 customers to keep unlimited data and their current plans)
  • The fact that I currently do not pay for texting and do not want it on my new plan
  • The fact that data pricing has skyrocketed (but voice and text pricing was lowered)

In the end... I got shot down on all my arguments. Sadly, I hoped I could get something from the Executive Customer Support people but it seems they won't budge on the new plans.

I am on the 69.99 unlimited plan, I use about 3gb a month in data, and I received the 100 discount offer. I read that the offers may be targeted to regions with low 4g conversion rates. I'm in St. Louis fwiw.

I am just curious, and I am sure there are many of you out there. What do you do with your phone that you use 3gb of data\month? You have to be watching movies or something?? I am lucky if I use 1\5th of a 2gig plan\month. Anyway, just curious because if I were to consider going to a 2gig plan to get a subsidized Inc 4G, what can I NOT do with my phone so I don't end up with 3gig\month usage....

I would call customer service. I didnt know I had that $100 credit either until a customer service rep told me over the phone. Then a few weeks after that I did get the email about it too. As for the Rezound, this credit might not apply to that since it already has a promotional discount currently.

the $100 credit is for people in congested areas to move from 3g to 4g.

Well looks like July 5th is the date from many sources. So i'll pass on this phone. Wait for a top end phone to buy out right. Not going to pay $500 for a mid level phone. I want something solid to lat over 2 years like this original Incredible. If I can't find that by September I'll leave Verizon. See ya later and those who get this phone enjoy. ;)

I stream Pandora in high quality constantly while driving, and occasionally use netflix. Otherwise I'm just surfing the net, checking email, etc. I usually use less than 2GB but occasionally go over by a little. Once by trying to stream as much music as I could in a month I got up to 3.5GB, but I was trying (like leaving it streaming all night while I was sleeping just to see what it would get up to).
I think you have to be a pretty heavy user, streaming a lot of video, torrenting, video chatting often, and/or tethering to really get up there.
It sounds to me like the new plans allow users to tether without any "additional fees" or rooting BTW.

I hear ya man... I am not out just yet, but I was just discussing with the wife about just hanging onto my Inc 2. I am trying to justify what $500 would get me over the Inc 2 to own this phone. Am I going to get $500 worth of use from the new Inc 4g??? The bigger question for me is will I see another 4" device?

I'm right at 1.5 gb a month, I dont watch many videos, but I do browse Facebook a fair amount and forums that just about everyone has a pic in their signatures.

ya, that is kind of what I thought. I would never go over 2gb per month if that is the case.

Hey, can I get some extra civility points? I got an email from VZW -- "Tell us how we can serve you better." -- and I didn't cave in the head of the person who took my call.

I explained that I understood VZW has its reasons for not yet training CSRs on this new phone, and for not yet announcing pricing/availability. But I expressed frustration with CSRs who, when asked about this new phone that was announced in May as "coming soon", told me the Incredible is "discontinued".

I may not agree with VZW policies, but it's flat out wrong for CSRs to either not read what I type in a chat box, or make up answers when "I don't know" is more accurate. Today's CSR apologized for how I'd been treated, assured me the phone really is coming soon, and apologized that she didn't have more info to share.

that's a good question and my guess is you WON'T see another 4" device with these specs. It feels like that screen size is going the way of the Dodo and keyboard smartphones :D it's annoying because if i could pay Samsung $200 (on top of the regular purchase price) to put the current SGS 3 innards into a 4" screen body i would!

but if your requirement is 4", then i'm guessing your options are Iphone 4s or HTC Incredible this year. Hopefully we'll swing back the other way but with the Note just coming out on Tmobile and probably headed to VZW it seems like everyone thinks bigger is better :(

I read an article (I wish I could find it now) that explained how challenging it is to jam all the display, electronics, and battery into a small phone and get anything that wouldn't run out of juice in half a day. Apple does it, in part, by making a unique-shaped, non-removable battery that's large enough to last long enough. The article said it's much easier to design a larger phone.

I think manufacturers like larger phones because they're cheaper/easier to design. What most customers want is a mystery to me. All I know is that I want a phone closer to 4" than to 6".

I often use over 5GB/month just reading forums and the news. And the occasional ROM download. But this is the only computer I use and it's never on WiFi.

I'm just the opposite of this. I am 95% on wifi and if there is a computer in reach of me I will pick it up and do web things on my laptop before I will do it on my phone. My phone is calling\texting\looking up something when out and about\Google Nav\occasional streaming of Pandora. I use about 1\5th of 2gig... I could go without my unlimited, but I would rather not....

yep 4" or less. I hate Apple and can't stand the thought of getting an iPhone. So then that leaves this phone. I would be getting it for the 4G and updated ICS. Not sure if that is worth $500...

My situation exactly. I was stunned when I looked up the specs for all of the droid phones on the market currently and they were all well over 4". Its amazing to me that I even considered getting an iPhone (ugh), which is the last thing I want, over something as trivial as the phone size.

I love my original DINC but would like to upgrade to the new one just for 4G and ICS like you said...as well as improved battery life.

This man speaks the truth

Yes he does, trust a device junkie like him, he knows...
Swappa .com is a good place to buy and sell android devices also, they have a set standard about them and all devices they sell, I like that about them.
My Dinc2 is almost a year old and has always had a case and screen protector on it. It is in pretty much perfect condition, my charging port was getting loose but I fixed that last night by applying some blackepoxy (JB weld) ,a tiny amount between the body and the port and let it cure overnight. Worked like a charm. I am taking a job that will have me working for one month in the middle of nowhere, hopefully when I get back this phone will be out and I will sure have the ching to buy it and sell my Dinc2 on Swappa, I got that upgrade to use 8.1.12...now then there is losing unlimited boy I tell you... *sigh*:p

Don't pay $500 for it. You wait a month or two and you can get it on the classifieds or ebay or even CL for a whole lot less than that.

There is, though, something cool and worth paying full freight for. That new car smell. Having the latest/greatest when it's first available. Front row seats. Oh yeah, don't forget that warranty.

Waiting doesn't sound like a bad idea... However, what about today's comment? The Warranty? If I purchase one off CL or Ebay you can kiss the 1 year manufacture warranty good bye. Like my son with his rezound. He had to return 3 phones due to over heating. Verizon ended up giving him a Moto because he said he didn't want anymore Rezounds. If you buy it off Ebay or CL, the only thing you can do is buy another one. I suppose you can purchase insurance on it also....
