I am still missing something here. I don't understand WHY you have to switch from your current Voice\Text plan to get this phone subsidized. You do not have to switch from your current plan. The only thing you would have to do is give up your unlimited data and take the 2gig $30\month tierd data plan...
I agree with ya, that there is nothing they are offering to me to pick up this phone subsidized and give up my unlimited data, but I still don't understand why you guys are saying you have to change your entire Voice\Texting plan. You don't have to do that...![]()
I don't know about the others, but my Family Share plan has a discount on it from Fall 2010. It's basically lifetime (the end date moves up 1 year every year we've had it) and gives each line a $20 discount as long as the keep unlimited data on it. I believe it was worded that way since they were still offering those 150mb data plans at that time. My problem is no one at Verizon seems to have any idea if moving to a tiered plan will terminate the discount. I could probably live with 2GB a month, but losing the discount means another $100 a month (plus taxes on that $100). At that point I'd go somewhere else or switch to a prepay dumbphone. Having a smartphone is nice but not if it's gonna cost us $2400 more over the life of a contract.
Talked with a CSR today about my brother's call last Saturday, where first thing the rep said was my brother would probably need a new phone rather than doing a factory reset that ended up fixing the problem. He is out of warranty, but still 7 months from his upgrade date. I asked her of this is gonna be common practice to try and get people off of the new plans, and she said well since the share data plans are new we're gonna push them. Even though I was told previously that the earliest you could get a manager upgrade was 6 months before your upgrade date. So something to keep an eye out for when talking to Verizon. If they seem helpful & generous, they're probably giving you the shaft.
