Root Getting pissed, wth am i missing here....

unrealone

Newbie
have downloaded the htc drivers and already had .net 4 ... when i attempt to use the regawmod rdownload, i download and extract the file, make sure my debugging is on, etc. and then Run it and the phone appears on the screen..im plugged into my phone, but the "Root Me" never appears...all i get is a message at the bottom saying my phone isnt connected... where did i miss a step:confused:

for what appears to be so simple in the videos, is being a pain in my ass:mad:

It rolled me around on the floor for the most part of a day too. It was my drivers.

I can't remember what all was suggested regarding them. what to remove and stuff, but, did you install the ones he suggested? did they take?

Look at your Device manager and make sure you don't have any alerts saying you have problems.

I feel your pain. I was so glad when it finally took!

lolzz..nothing i do will give me a connection...yet other usb things i hook up are working...i dunno... have gone back uninstalling and reinstalling drivers from the links provided and even installed the adroidlib.dll in case the others werent working for me...just about to give up on this shit

did he say you needed to uninstall anything?

did device manager look ok?

have you tried powering down both the phone and the pc after the driver install and then rebooting?

have you tried a different cable and/or pc.

seriously, I spent easily 4 or 5 hours going back and forth with it and then the htcdev site and back again before it worked.

I definitely understand..

Have you rebooted the computer? Sometimes with driver issue you will still get issues until a reboot. This is mainly do to the fact that windows will keep the driver in memory until shutdown.

i havent added anything to the phone except Lookout, that would be interfering with anything... and i have rebooted after each time that i downloaded and installed the drivers....(which i cannot seem to find on my device manager now...i can only find it in my downloads...could be the issue there...if thats the case, then i need another link to dl...)

i have gone back and forth between the 2 methods that ive seen (regaw and runme.bat...where i actually never get "runme.bat" to show up, just "runme" along with the other 13 extractions on that dl)

i havent tried another computer...

lookout is an antivirus, isn't it? that reminds me, do you have a firewall on your pc? did you disable it before you tried this?

ya, i disabled the antivirus on the computer...i didnt think i needed to disable my phones antivirus...but ill give that a shot too...im simply not tech savvy enough to know if something is interfering here...take a 10yr old and give him a phone and computer for the 1st time and tell him to root the thing...thats basically me...uh, +a few dozen years or so

i just went back and delete/uninstalled everything...ill try again tomorrow ... if you could be so kind as to post the links to the drivers that you finally got to work, that would be great too..thanks guys...sorry to be such a freakin newb

just went back and noticed firewall still on even though the antivirus was off...but i still dont know if that would keep the usb from working... jeebus

yep, firewall...

look back in this thread, someone posted them too, maybe earlier ones. I just used one from Regaw method site.

edit: sorry, not this thread, the regaw thread. I'll find them.

edit2: Here's the thread, good stuff in there.

edit 3: I didn't use these, guys talking about doing the old htc sync install then uninstalling but leaving drivers. Here is a link though.

you might try downloading and installing android sdk to make sure your phone is recognized by your pc - (are you using a pc?). Then make sure that you have uninstalled any htc sync software. Then i would uninstall & reinstall the drivers after a restart.

i had the same issue started to just search for newest drivers myself or see witch files worked best this one ended working for both my pc's (one windows 7 and the othe xp)

HTC EVO
go under read more and download is towards the bottom 153mb

after that it should connect. let us know how it goes i might have another trick up my sleeve if that doesnt work

im using an hp dv6000 laptop... nothing has worked, so ill dl the android sdk and go from there...thanks for the insight

your laptop shouldnt be an issue i have an old hp tower i got for free from a business that went under for free just cleaned it out... have you tried updating the driver manually through control panel, system, hardware, device manager?

well...still nothing...i guess ill just wait and maybe run into someone else who has the same phone and see if they rooted theirs...if i mess with it any longer, i wont have to worry about it because im going to smash the fukking thing through the wall... thanks for the tips guys

there was no driver to update... even after i download the drivers through the links, they show up on my downloads page and programs page, but not in the device manager... i am clueless

im rooted and runnin boys...

ironically, i went to the desktop and everything worked first try...i was trying everything on my oldest laptop and am very reluctant to mess with my newer laptops for work...they run extremely smooth and have some things running on them full time, so thats why i didnt try on them...a quick drive over to my dads house to use his pc and im all good... i feel dumb, but i assume most people do when something works right after you have struggled on it for a while...

thanks guys for listening to me complain and whine... and for throwing advice my way

hah...good luck with that...to be honest, i only messed with the thing so i could get a handful of apps for rooted phones only...

im sure ill be asking folks to walk me through something again...real soon:D

Glad to hear you got it working, was your laptop running XP or something? Pm me if you have any specific questions as well, I'll be around.
