Root WOOP WOOP : Eng S-Off is here!

A RIL is a Radio Interface Layer... it is to do with how the phone's operating system "talks" to the radio hardware of the phone. The right RIL for the radio you have would mean best possible performance.

I'd have run the ROM to see what the radio performace was like... you would then know if the performace is typical on that radio (you'd be able to compare the two at least). ... don't think it needs to "settle" so to speak

Wiped caches and flashed the RIL for my radio ( although the RIL was for the radio without the 'U' ) ...I recall that once El P said I should wait a few days for everything to get back to working..... I'll let you guys know soon.

Atm, signal seems to be the same, if not a little worse. As you said, I'll let it run for a few days and see how it is.

I actually meant that I would have left it on stock Sense 3.0 for a couple of days (as that should have the correct RIL for the radio) and then you would be able to compare with your signal on ARHD... let us know all the same though :)

More than 24hrs in and it seems to have made my signal slightly worse. I'm gonna wait a bit more, probably travel around the area as well.

Another thing ; for which area / network is my new radio for? I know the older one was for Telus....

I wouldthink that it has been ' a few days ' since I flashed the new radio .
Here are some screen shots I took from the network logger.

links died

new one's are at the top. Excuse the last one, forgot to disable screen filter

After looking at that , I would say that there is a marginal diffrerence.

Is that enough testing / proof for me to try the Orange branded RUU now?

I agree with Scotty... you've nothing to loose, as you can always go back to this one if it's worse! :)

you've nothing to loose

* You've nothing to lose.

Sorry.

:D

Also , had another look at the cell network widget.... after going on my bike ( so a few miles around where I live ) the signal strengths are beginning to be very close , although still higher than before.

Ideal situation = Pretty much always 3G/HSPA signals.

* You've nothing to lose.

I'm the king of speeling mistaks! Normally I notice that I've speelt something wrong, as the Firefox underlines it for me... caught me in a bit of a rush though earlier!

I'll get you next time!!

Well DURX said that you need to have lots o' power when flashing radios.... I assumed RUU's would be similar, especially if I'm in HBOOT.

Read on here that the phone does not accept charge whilst in HBOOT and that one of the reasons you could end up with a paperweight was that the phone died while flashing a radio. Can't hurt to be fully charged though! :)

as the Firefox underlines it for me...

Aah, same feature on Chrome. Never really used Forefox...

I'll get you next time!!

:fight:

I'll be ready ;)

EDIT: Finally managed to get round to running that RUU... and when I booted it up - a trip down memory lane , where I used to run that bloated stuff........

Anyway , restoring my backup in CWM atm, with my new radio being :

12.28b.60.14eU_26.03.02.26_M

And then a couple of questions:

1. Why the hell has HTC not made a file explorer app preinstalled?
2. Is there a way to flash 4EXT Touch in HBOOT , rather than using CWM, and then reinstallin git via the RC app?

First impressions of the new radio :
Very similar signal strengths, although slightly better :-)

Is the radio actually for Orange networks, or is it just the one that came in the rom? Pretty sure my old radio was for Telus ( unless the AAHK was to bland)

Also, I haven't got the right RIL installed... I managed to find it from here : http://androidrevolution.nl/browsearhd.php

having run the aahk, you should be radio s-off,and therefore should still be afterwards.

rooting the new software is as simple as installing the recovery as a PD98IMG file:
cwm-5.0.2.7-ace.zip

simply download, rename to just PD98IMG,place on root of sd card, boot to hboot, then let it flash. when its done reboot, and immediately remove PD98IMG from the sd card.

if you wish to root that software in the ruu and run it for a few days, all you need to do is then flash superuser 3.0.7 in recovery. alternately, you can go ahead and restore a backup,or you can flash a new rom.

you can do literally anything on an s-off device. so once youve run the aahk and become s-off and superCID,there is no need to run it again... unless you need it to turn s-on

also thot id point out that if you happen to want a GB sense rom,the newest unbranded sense 3.0 is actually a very nice rom.defiantely not bad to stay on for a few days :)

Hi, man
I made ruu- now I am in this position. So I have S-off, ONLY I now need to put some other custom rom is rooting, isn't it???
thanks again

im not 100% sure what youre asking. if your s-off,to get a new custom rom on the phone, you need to:

1)download clockwork from the link above
2)rename it PD98IMG and place it on your sd card
3)boot to hboot and allow it to update. when it finishes, reboot
4)remove PD98IMG and place the custom rom on the sd card
5) you can get to recovery from the hboot menu
6)flash your custom rom :)

at step 6,you can alternately restore a backup,or flash the superuser files if you wish to run the current stock rom,but with root access :)

Just like to say that signal is slightly better than the two previous radios.. But, gladly, I'm getting a lot more 3G and HSPA signals now.
Thanks so much Scotty and Durx! ;-)

i will try to explain closer...
I have made aahk in past and yesterday installed RUU directly from this exe file.
Is this means phone stayed s-of?
Did I lost super cid and is simlock removed?
Then, what I need more to install some custom rom again (I had rcmix in past but AAHK done all the steps automatically)
Thanks

If you used the AAHK, then the phone will be S-Off (running an RUU does not affect that) - the same goes for SIM UNLOCK / Super CID (they are not affected by the RUU either)!

so:
1)download clockwork from the link above
2)rename it PD98IMG and place it on your sd card
3)boot to hboot and allow it to update. when it finishes, reboot
4)remove PD98IMG and place the custom rom on the sd card
5) you can get to recovery from the hboot menu
6)flash your custom rom :)
go with this procedure???
