I think its the site not the file that is trying to give you a virus.
 
I downloaded originally from MegaUpload. No problems found with it. I'm loving the update. Besides the qwirky 'bars' thing, I've got no regrets. Awesome software. The battery life on my phone is amazing. I downloaded last night, played with it until 1 in the morning, mobile network on, left mobile network on, went to work, played with it some more throughout the day, and the battery is still @ 25% and it's 8pm. By now, my phone would be deader than a doornail. Even if this is the same as the OTA, I'll be MORE than happy.

Got mine to work only after I downloaded the link from a guy (page 7, post 314) who posted it on the MOBILE ME site and I made sure the file was 103-104MB. Also, make sure that it looks like this and no different: PB00IMG, NOT PB00IMG(2)



Honestly, I don't notice any real difference in this version from the last leaked 2.1 version. BUT, I haven't played with it much.
 
The megaupload link works just fine with Chrome browser, and adthwart or adblock installed. No virus's in it at all. Some of you guys should think about updating your browsers and/or security measures :) Malwarebytes and Avira found nothing wrong with the megaupload link. Its what I used, it installed perfectly, and I'm virus free. The phones never been faster. Thanks zxphenomenalxz, you know we all appreciate it I'm sure ;)

You should know that the megaupload link was the first and I guarantee the most used link for this. And out of all who downloaded it from there only a handful have complained of ''viruses'', which are probably no more than browser cookies. But maybe you should look into upgrading from what you are using now and I guarantee you will have less headaches.

I finally updated to the new leak. I downloaded the zip from Megaupload directly onto the phone using Dolphin Browser (no need to worry about the virus-spawning ad on the phone), and moved it from sdcard/download to sdcard using a file manager.

Only difference I noticed from first leak to second leak was the Google login bug being fixed.

I had the same problem. I spent 3 hours on the phone with HP support doing a remote fix. It took him that long to get all the viruses off of my computer. Still, I have no idea why it only happened to a select few, considering how many people used that same link.??

Vibration is still there when a call connects, but what I find that works to prevent the vibration, is to activate the proximity sensor (either by putting your finger over sensor or just placing the phone to your ear) right after initiating the call. Works every time for me. Give it a try.

Your contacts (and any changes you make to them e.g., pics, favorites) are synced to your gmail account. That's why they were the same after the flash.;)
 
Something new I've noticed with the latest leak, not sure if it's already been discussed: The weather in the Desk Clock app now works correctly (i.e., displays your current city's weather instead of always the default Akron, OH location).
 
Can anyone tell me if they get that quick vibration when making a call with the new leak? It is so annoying. And do apps like bank of america work now?

I think the vibrate thing when making a call is to let you know your call connected. I know some think it's annoying but if I reach down and press a speed dial button without looking it tells me when it's connecting.

IMHO I don't know how that could happen. I hope your firewall is up and virus stuff is up to date but the first link posted worked great. perhaps the virus came from some place else.
 
For those of you getting the android guy with the triangle and !, i had the same issues but I finally got it to work and im running the newest 2.1.

I downloaded from OTDs link from my phone. The first two times it didnt download the full 104 mb and I didnt notice. So when I tried to flash the verision it wasnt recognized. So you get that:

Fast boot
Hb boot
Recovery

when you push volume up at this point that is when it goes to the android guy and the !

When you have the full file and follow the steps you will see it working by the status bar on the right upper part of the screen.

I was using firefox 3.6.2 (latest build) with adblock+, don't blame it on the browser. though I will admit, chrome had no issues with it, lol.

it is a random ad that is being served on the site, so you may not get it every time, but my WOT and norton safe surf went nuts on it when that particular ad was served. I was only half paying attention and got a file download popup, and thought it was for the ROM and clicked ok, then realized my mistake. my AV picked it up and squashed it quickly enough, and I used malwarebytes and spybot to root out the remains of it and finish cleaning my system.

the file itself is fine.

I d/l'd appbrain based on the comments I saw here -- looked good, saw that all my apps were showing up on the ap[bain website.

So, I reflash the phone with the new 2.1 ROM.
I reinstall the appbrain program, run it, and instead of syncing with the website to reinstall all those programs, it seems to have instead told the website that I have no apps!!
Back to the drawing board.

That's exactly what I did! I think we were supposed to go to the website first and tell the website to reinstall the apps on the phone. It would have then sent the message to the phone to give you the link to download from the market. It wasn't that big a deal for me, just an annoyance, one that I figured was my own doing.
 
My phone and computer totally overheated from this download.. I Had to put them in icebags. Damn Viruses.!!!!!! Then some weird laughing face came on both screens and said haha, I hacked your phone and computer... VIRUS and TROJANS!!!

Better not be getting viruses anymore, I was on HP support for 10 hours yesterday!!!

~Booting up new leak version now ~ It's a lot prettier. :)
 
if u got a virus from megaupload, that should teach u about clickin on word pop ups! (though..i know some times they make it so u have no other choice).
also make sure you have the free microsoft security essentials installed if u have a legit copy of windows :)
 
So what is the correct version for the upgrade from 1.5?

I have the PB00IMG.zip file downloaded to my pc with a total of 108,819,939 bytes.

I did not see any concensus on the installation procedure, some say hold down volume down + power, others: hold down phone+ power while booting.

Some say remove everything from the SD drisk before copying the zip file onto it, some say remove the old version only.

Some say the some HBOOT thingy pops up (what to do with it?)

Someone can clarify?
