Root [Verizon] Some root questions

Ok so I looked into the root guide and nothing was there on this. Where can I find Rom's, are any available yet? Can I use clockworkMod to install a recovery and flash my Rom's from there?

I'm looking at rooting with the new method that was just released but I want to make sure its worth it first, like getting cool rom's

Thanks for the help

What are you trying to root? You can find ROMs in the development threads for your device. Anything labeled [ROM] in the threads is a ROM. As for your other questions, hopefully someone more experienced will explain better..

And... its always worth it :D

Im trying to root my S3 on the verizon network. When i was in the root guide here it said Rom's none available.

best place to look for ROMS at this point is over at the xda forums...

ClockworkMod IS recovery...the best way to flash a recovery right now on our phones is by downloading this app

EZ Recovery for VZW GS3

I'm looking at rooting with the new method that was just released but I want to make sure its worth it first, like getting cool rom's

Personally i recommend rooting through the ODIN flash...

1. with our phones its good to understand how ODIN works
2. ive read some weird issues with the "new method" that i have not heard of with the ODIN flash
3. The new method is no easier

as for it being "worth it" rooting is well worth it regardless of the availability of "cool roms" the ability to back things up with apps like Titanium, or flash little modifications in recovery are great...especially considering how easy it is to root our phones...

as for "cool roms" most of the stuff that you can flash through recovery is very closely based on stock...we do have things like CM9 and CM10 but they are not handled in the same way and are a little more involved than simply flashing...

Thanks for the help. I read somewhere that users were having issues with the odin method. But im new to the samsung world. I moved from htc and i rooted those phones, so im just trying to find the best method available that i dont had to adb shell things.

what are the problems you've read about with the ODIN method?...ive rooted 5 VZW GS3's using the ODIN method without a hiccup...

Idk it was in the video of the new method and on droid life where the video is posted i believe. Ill double check.

the only problems ive heard of resulting from the ODIN flashes were from the ORIGINAL root file that did not use the VZW source code as a base and was flashing some Sprint nonsense on our phones....

ive not heard any problems explicitly caused by the "root66" method found here:

[GUIDE][VZW GS3 Edition]How to root your VZW Galaxy SIII & More!(ROMs/CWM/Stock) - xda-developers

Cool thanks. Ill pick one of the 2 methods bc in the end they get me to root lol. Well ill figure it out by tomorrow night.

Do you happen to live anywhere near San Diego?

I would check your firmware versions first. Flashing root66 (not sure if it was that one or an older one) completely reverted my LG1 to LF2.

What does Settings | About Device | Baseband version show?

What does Kernel Version show? (the date, Jul 4 is G1 ROM, Jun 15 is F2 IIRC)

See the other thread to update if they aren't. Either way, you're fine.

Should have a screenshot. What do you think?

I did the same thing; just update with those linked in the other thread and you'll be back to G1 kernel, baseband.

I'm liking SynergyROM so far. I didn't want to hassle with Beans ROM requiring kexec.

It seems like there are at least 3 different methods listed above on how to root. I know about 3% of everything regarding root, so that makes me just dangerous enough to totally screw up my phone. With that in mind, here is why I want to root mine.

1. Get rid of the programs Verizon/Samsung mandates are installed that I will never use and slow down my phone.
2. Install a good wireless tehter so I can use my tablet and Ipod. (I still have the unlimited data plan)....

I am fine with the way it looks and feels, so not really overly interested in installing a new ROM or changing things...other than what I already mentioned.

So with that in mind, can one of you wonderful people point me in the direction for a good way to root this so I can do the 2 things above?
