Telus Galaxy S2 (T989D) Ultimate Root and Optimization Guide with Steps

Apparently the radio isn't included in the rom, so you would need one from that 2nd radio link. It looks like it would be this one. Telus_SGH-T989D_TLLE4_radio.zip

The rom would be this one. Telus_SGH-T989DTLLE4_Stock_Rooted.zip

Download those and put them on your sd card.

Then go to recovery, select wipe data/ factory reset.

Then select wipe cache partition.

Go to advanced, select wipe dalvik cache.

Go back and then go to mounts and storage. format /system, format /cache, format /data

Go back to main menu and install zip from sd card. Install the radio and the rom.

I've read some more through the thread and have seen some people having problems, so (as with most roms) flash at your own risk. :)

You could also try the Darkside ICS rom for Telus.

Couldnt I at the very least flash back to the stock telus rom and use kies to update it and then root it after?

Yes you could do that. Are you on stock Gingerbread now? Just rooted? If so, it will probably work anyway. You will just lose root and have to reroot.

lol im getting confused. Well my Gingerbread version is 2.3.5 and i have "Mr. X's Rooted Telus Rom with CIQ removed" installed. But I have a copy of the original telus rom that I got off this forum. I dont mind having to re-root again if I loose it. I only use root for titanium pro and set cpu and maybe some battery tweaks if I can find any good ones.

So if I use odin and flash back that original rom i would just be stock and un rooted correct? I just want the least risky option so dont brick it.

ok awesome! i feel safe doing it that way. One more question, that may have been answered already. Once I get updated to the latest ICS, can I even root yet? I remember on my iphone I had to wait forever for the Devs to creat a jailbreak for my specific ios. Is it the same with android or is it ready to go?

Yes, you can root using the same method as in the OP. Read through the last couple of pages. Some had success using the 3.0.7 superuser. Others had success using a different superuser.

There may even be a stock ICS file for the Telus you can Odin instead of using Kies. I know there is for the SGH-T989 but I'm not sure about the SGH-T989D for the Telus.

ya i get confused between t-mobile stuff and telus sometimes. Thanks for the help!

Ok i have a problem now... I just flashed my phone back to stock. And now it wont get past the samsung loading screen... And it just keeps restarting that. wth happend? I downloaded the drivers and odin and the stock telus file. I think i must still have CWM on it cause I can hold the two voloume buttons down and it goes into its menu but i dont know what else to do

I guess this must be a boot loop eh? I found some instructions on how to deal with this. I went into recovery on my phone and wiped user data. And now im re flashing. thats what it said to do anyways so I hope it works.

Glad you got everything worked out. Fortunately, boot loops aren't too hard to get out of with this phone. Most of the time. :)

I'm not sure what may have caused it in the first place though.

Ya it was a bit strange... Now my phone is completly wiped. I did a titanium backup before I did anything. After I upgrade to ics can I restore that or will it not work?

I've rooted my ICS T989D successfully. However no matter which ROM I try to install I lose the Lock Screen and Home Key functionality. Any ideas on why that is? It works when I just root and do nothing else.

Welcome to the forums Conix.

I'm not sure why that would be happening. The only possibility I can think of is you're flashing a rom meant for the T989 instead of the T989D, but I don't really know if that might cause your problem.

Will the original post guide work on a Koodo Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989D running 4.04? (assuming I use the Superuser 3.07 version)

How long is it supposed to take during the splash screen after a first boot from flashing a ROM. So far mine has been running for about 6 minutes and I'm beginning to get scared...Please Help =S

What phone do you have and what rom did you flash?

I can't remember exactly but the first boot can take several minutes. If it doesn't boot, go back to recovery and do a factory reset and try to boot again. Did you wipe everything in recovery before flashing?

I just restored everything back to my original backup from CMW and this means that I have to Root my device again right? Thanks so much for your help.

I must be doing something wrong...I restored back to original state right before my root, re-rooted, and flashed this ROM: |ROM|Jedi Mind Trick|V7| 8|22 - xda-developers I did exactly what it told me to do and I still get past the first splash screen but then on the second custom splash screen it never ends! I am not getting a boot loop either, it just gets stuck on the second splash loading screen. Help! =S
