Btw, what is generally a safe/stable minimum CPU frequency? 240 or 300? And do you just use something like SetCPU to control this?

I'm using Smartassv2 governor, but I can't change governor settings in SetCPU. Is this normal?

I've been using 220 since HYPER 1.5 release without any problems. I use SetCPU myself.

You should be able to change the governor..is your SetCPU allowed in Superuser?

Try Voltage Control from the Market. You should be able to change Gov and I/O settings with the new kernels too.

As for your min/max settings. I would try the settings that the kernel comes with for a bit. Then I would start playing with the settings. I've found that a good setting for me is I/O- deadline, Gov-ondemand, Min-220, Max 1300. That is one of the most stable setups I've found.

Right now I'm running I/O-deadline, Gov-lagfree, Min-220, Max-1360.:D

Different phones react differently to the settings. Just play with it until you find the settings that work best for your phone. If you do decide to turn it up all the way to 1400, you might wanna do so slowly. When I get up to 1360 and above, I turn it up 1 setting at a time and run it for 5 or 10 minutes then turn it up again. Sometimes when I turn it up from a lower setting(1300) all the way to 1400, the phone will start to lag or freeze. It doesn't when turn up like I described above.;)


ADDED: If your phone locks up, do a battery pull.
 
Very nice work, blood! Finally got a chance to try this out; I have been on 3d unleashed kernel for the longest time. Just tried out voltage control for the first time. How do you guys undervolt, if that's possible? FYI, I run mine max at 1100 as battery life is very important to me and it's still smooth as butter.
 
Great job blood. My phone maxes at 1340 for now, until I learn how to set different voltages. Much higher on quadrant with this as well. Its no match for my cm9 kindle fire but it will do.

you can't change the voltage, just the frequency, scheduler and governor.

I do have all the frequencies undervolted by 50 tho, I had them a lot lower than that in 1.0 but it wasn't stable for everyone. Smartreflex does some automatic undervolting too.

I use CPU master(free) and system tuner pro, and since the new kernel flash I now have options in both apps to change the voltage per frequency. I haven't messed with anything as I don't know what I'm doing but it is odd that these options are available yet I cannot change them:confused:

As blood stated, I don't think you can change the voltage unless the kernel supports it. A while back I was able to build the overclock module from the milestone overclock project with overclock as well as undervolt support but it didn't work because the kernel lacks the support for it. Seems like it has to be hard coded now as blood has done by undervolting each frequency 50mV from its normal operating voltage

the voltage option doesn't work. I just installed CPU master and set the voltage for 1000 mhz from 1300 mV to 1325, applied it, closed CPU master and reopened it and the voltage is back at 1300.

there just isn't support in the kernel for changing voltage or the GPU frequencies with a app right now.

I have been running at a min frequency of 120 Mhz for a week or so now with no problems waking. I have been using it thinking it might help battery life, although I can't really tell if it helps. I have tried it with a variety of governor and scheduler combinations all without issues. Just wondering if anyone else has tried the 120 Mhz min and what was your experience?
 
I've been running 120 for quite a while. probably a month or more. I can't really tell if it has helped battery life or not. I can't imagine that it wouldn't. I've never had a problem waking either. I try to run as minimal as possible, and with the latest kernel have been using about 5% battery per hour with occasional use for phone and messaging.

Hmmm, sounds like you app isn't working properly. If you saved the settings then it should have kept them when you booted up. Try wiping the app data and then uninstalling. Then re-install and try it again.
Also, Voltage control will wait a certain amount of time to apply the settings unless you have chosen the "init.d" script method of applying the settings at boot.

As far as I know, the GOV and I/O settings are all you can adjust right now with this kernel. I may be wrong though.

As for the minimum setting, your phone should go to that when your screen turns off. AnTuTu's CPU Master has a setting specifically for when the screen turns off. I have the pro version but don't use it any longer because I found my phones clock settings turned all the way up a couple of times w/o me doing it. Maybe you would have better luck with it.:)

open voltage control, from the drop down on the left select the I/O scheduler you want, on the right select the Governor you want, on MIN slide it to 220, slide the MAX to what you want and press menu > save as boot settings.

there is a link in the first post with info on gov's and sched's if you need to know anything about them.
 
I was having problems with changing. Frequencies also I think it was rom toolkit pro that was making it set back to stocks either way deleted got voltage control worked like a champ,but that's kinda besides the point,2.0 works great for me so far no force closings or freezings yet great work love it.
 
I have a problem. I cant set my min to anything less than 300 without my phone becoming unresponsive when I try to turn the screen on to unlock it. I have to hold the power button like I'm going into recovery or reboot a couple of times and it will flash on and off and then finally become responsive. Is there anything I can do besides leave it on 300+? I'm running Deadline with InteractiveX with Voltage Control. Could that be the cause of the problem?

It means your phone can't handle those frequencies. There isn't anything you can do.

I just read somewhere in another post about battery life being hurt when using frequencies lower than 200. This morning I bumped my min frequency up to 220 and my battery life has improved dramatically (smartassv2/noop). I went from using about 5-6% per hour to about 3% per hour. I'm gonna keep it there and see what the long term benefit is.

Battery life has been exceptional. I've been testing settings on 2 different marquees and the battery life has been great when using 220 as the min setting. I'm leaving it there permanently.
 
I'm pretty sure there is a bug in the kernel or one of the governors. Most of the time its great but pretty often you can tell that something is locked up/looping as the battery will start to drain and phone will warm up. Rebooting seems to fix it for a while. Is there an app that i can run to see threads, like the linux command "top"?

if you have busybox, you should have top. If not, try "busybox top".

I had that problem when I was using AnTuTu CPU Master. I switched to Voltage Control and haven't had anymore problems.

I would grab my phone and notice it was getting hot. I then opened CPU Master and noticed that the all the CPU setting were maxed out. I turned them down and rebooted the phone but it happened 2 more times. I decided to switch to Voltage Control and the problem stopped. :D
 
should i be using the ICS kernel or the gingerbread kernel with the lg marquee sprint phone. if i use the ICS kernel does that mean that it will now work with ICS apps like google now? Thank you slightly new to kernels ive rooted several phones and used roms like cm7 and ct mod but not moddified kernels. i wanted to try and get google now working but xda developers say you need ICS

if you have the latest CTMod installed then you already have the GB kernel. the ICS kernel is only for ICS roms like CM9.
 
but there is not any cm9 stable port for the lg marquee right
i havent found one yet.
and if i already flashed ctmod with gingerbread i can flash the hyper kernel afterwards without any problems
