Nexus 7 Watering Hole

I should be able to put a Nexus 7 right in this spot. I just need to figure out how without using one of those fugly windowshield/dashboard suction cup holders. right now my only thought is styrofoam. That space is 9'' wide.

Interesting, you thinking vertical? Maybe install a couple of felt covered u-channels on the sides for the N7 to slide into.

Yep. That's it.

I work with metal everyday and never thought of it! :o I could even use some 1/2" angle.

I don't know the physical width of the device (mines at home). The trick would be having enough to hold it securely without it being to obtrusive.

The only thing I know for sure is I'll use bluetooth to connect to my Escape and if I need internet I'll just tether to my phone.

Halon, you and I have some similar ideas with our N7. I really want to find a way to integrate it into my car or truck.

Yeah, in the end it is actually cheaper and better than getting him a DS or other handhelds with the added advantage of educational apps.

That's me, a lot of folks call me that here. It is a part of my last name.

Yeah my son has tons of electronics, way too many to use. I wish we could sell them all and do what you did.

Yeah, a Nexus in the dash would be SWEET!

That's what I was thinking. So I would need to find screen capable of those technologies or find some way to convert if I wanted to output to a screen.

My blueray is compatible with both DLNA and WiFi direct. Maybe I'll try it tonight. It natively plays YouTube and Netflix, so I never had a need to try streaming from a device.

Oh, and a neat, unadvertised change to YouTube, BTW. If you are not on an Android device and go to YouTube you can access your Google Movies through the paid content (I think) section. I'm not sure it is available for all places, but it works on my Blue Ray player and in Chrome on my PC. Sorta makes your Google movies a whole lot more portable.

^ Didn't know that! Thanks! I'm trying to figure out a way to make the N7 the central component of a in car infotainment center. Really not much of a way I can test stuff out unless I have somethin DLNA enabled, and I'm not sure I do.

Your GNex?

:p way to make me look like an idiot, haha. Now, how does this dlna work? What do I need to do?

man, I feel like such a noob!

I'm not sure, but I may play with it tonight and see what I come up with. And don't worry, I've created and ID10T error or two thousand myself.

Yeah. That still adds some complications to my setup I'm trying to create. Any DLNA transmission from the N7 would have to be done through a DLNA app, right? Which means I couldn't access any Play Store movies. Also can't find any in car monitors that offer DLNA support. There is at least one module called the Kivic that takes a DLNA signal and outputs HMDI. There again I have a problem in that no in car monitors have HMDI that I've noticed.
