Anyone heard of any hardware problems, after upgrading to 2.1? Had an Eris for 2 weeks, upgraded to 2.1 and two days later, my speaker blew. I don't use the speaker loudly, if at all, so was a bit paranoid to upgrade my replaced Eris w/2.1, over the 1.5. Hoping that the speaker was just a coincidence/ bad piece, but wanted to check here, for confirmation/info... Thanks!

This has got to be a coincidence.

Was hoping so, before I re upgraded the new Eris. Didn't want to go back again, in a week, asking for another phone...
Thanks...

'Cuz I really really liked 2.1 on my Eris. Smooth, fast, better battery life, better signal pickup, and, the cooler apps...

my eris is so much faster than with 2.1 than it was before. So much faster that it made my girlfriend want it on hers. and she is a worry wart. thanks for the leak guys!

Thanks badfrog!

You're welcome. just trying to help out

I just updated yesterday. It went completely smooth, and I have my phone nearly back to where it was app wise, plus a few new ones. Everything I had now seems to be working the same or better. I like a couple new things I grabbed. I've already used google tracks some, and played with navigation on the way to the store. However google earth fails to do anything. I've only seen one other mention of it in this thread, with no response or agreement or anything. I'm just wondering if everyone who's tried it is getting the same complete lack of response when clicking on the app icon, or if it's working for anyone.

Oops, I just found the answer to my own question about google earth. It requires at least a ARM 7 core...faster than we got :(

Oh well, guess I'll uninstall it, and put it on my wife's moto Droid when she gets 2.1.

In regard to dropping the .zip file on a clean SD card or not, I tried to use my SD card as is, with all my files, music etc intact but the process wouldn't find the .zip file. When I used a clean SD card it updated without a hitch. YMMV

I upgraded to the latest 2.1 leak over the weekend and I'm diggin' it! No problems with the install (did it without first wiping my SD card) and everything seems to function a little smoother. Thanks zxphenomenalxz for the file and everybody else's advice and feedback about it.

Interesting, two posts in a row with opposite results having to do with wiping or not wiping the sd card.

That makes me wonder if the success of the operation has to do with what might be on the card that needs to be removed rather than wiping everything off.

I've only had my Eris for 3 weeks, so I don't have much saved on my sd card yet. Maybe that makes a difference?

It didn't on mine, I had mine full of stuff and it went right away. I've had zero problems updating both times, and I just followed the directions.

Others have said this happens with Astro. But that means an update for Astro should be around the corner. Someone recommended androzip. I switched to that. Faster and nicer looking.

I'll look into that prog.. never heard of it before...

Confirming that Astro has a new version out today, which expires in another 2 months. Apparently they like to operate like my free anti-virus program (Avira)... they have an "expiration date" but the license/program are updated and renewed before that. I will never understand why they have to do it that way, but there you go.

That's weird. I flashed the first and second leak and the speaker blew both times spose to get third Eris tomorrow. Although I noticed small metal shavings both times from work on the screen that covers the speaker. Don't know if its coincidence or not. Even though, that shouldn't bother it I've had many phones that did that at work and it didn't bother them.

Hey Guys.... I installed this today and it's working great however, I'm having some trouble with my ringtones. Some ringtones I had been using now won't play even though they are showing up on the sd card. I also went out to Zedge and tried to re-download a ringtone and it said there was not enough space on my memory card but I have 6.83 gigs of free space. I tried deleting the zip file that was used to install the leak but that made no change. Anyone else having issues? Thoughts? Ideas? TIA.

Well... I finally went and did it... upgraded to this leaked 2.1...

I held out as long as I could, but it became harder when I realized that barely anyone calls me, and I had little to lose. :p

Here was some of my experience so far...

- Install went fine, however my SD card read as "damaged" once it was all loaded, and I needed to re-format (luckily, I had backed mine up first!). REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR SD CARD BEFORE YOU UPGRADE.

- UI seems snappier, and in general things seem to run faster

- ALL, I say, ALL Facebook contacts that have their numbers on their profiles DO appear in your phone numbers list (when you click the "Phone" button to dial). Yuck.

- HOWEVER... when you click "People" instead, it will show only those contacts you have synced up on Google. This is good, because you don't HAVE to sift through all the Facebook contacts to make a call, if you don't want to. (I have 400+ Facebook friends for gaming purposes, but maybe 100 phone numbers in my contacts, and they're not even the same group of people). Having a shortcut to "People" on the home screen seems a reasonable workaround.

- I'm not noticing any connection bugs with apps that access the internet... at least not so far.

- WIFI connects to a network about 2x faster than 1.5 did

- I may not be getting the radio bar boost others are having, in fact I might be experiencing the opposite. Not sure yet. I live in a basement, so 1-2 bars is average for me. After upgrade it hovers between 0-2. I didn't have trouble dialing *228, so I don't know if this is anything to be concerned with or not.

I'm sure I'll find some horrible bug, or something I can't stand (besides my favorite Shoutcast app not being in the store...) but so far I'm glad I made the switch. I can understand why others did it long ago.

Now to see what happens when I get a real-life call or text message... :p

P.S. - REMEMBER TO BACK UP YOUR SD CARD CONTENTS BEFORE YOU DO THE UPGRADE. SERIOUSLY.

P.P.S. - My phone just did the full-screen "cloudy" animation thing. I'm sorry, that's just cool.

have you tried any of the ones that people have specifically mentioned?
Bank of America, phoneflicks, babbler, etc? ( i know there were others, just can't think yet, need more caffine )

None of those specific ones mentioned... for some reason I thought it was a more general bug than just certain programs (anytime you click a link in an app that opens the web browser, is what stuck). All I know is I accidentally clicked a couple external links in apps, and they loaded just fine - so far.
