OTA 2.1 Has started..

I don't think a factory reset would revert your software from 2.1 back to 2.0. Once you update to 2.1, a factory reset would just wipe all your data and reset 2.1. What do I know though....

I think that's to remove root etc?

I did the factory reset from the manual. I was not rooted.
It literally reset it back to the way it was when I picked it up in november.

I think that image is stored on the phone somewhere...in case the shit hits the fan. /shrug

Factory reset just formats the Data and Cache partitions. Not system partition. If you did have 2.1 installed and did a factory reset, then you will be on 2.1, not 2.0.1.

Couple ways to get back to 2.0.1:
1. Had to root your 2.1, then used Nandroid Backup to restore a stock 2.0.1
2. Had 2.0.1 update.zip file

Someone knowledgable will get their hands on the upgrade.zip file. Have faith.

It's March Madness for real! Which android site will be the first to get it??? Place your bets people!!! :D

I'm not sure I, personally, would want to go that route unless it's fool proof and won't brick my phone. Regardless, if people keep reporting on whether or not they've received the OTA update, one could possibly extrapolate the number of Droids sold, i.e. if 10 days goes by and not everyone has received it, we'd know that a minimum of 2 million were sold.

Very handy for us MOT investors. :D

Or use RSDlite to flash the factory image back...

That's what I figured. I called Verizon and asked them first, and of course, the stupid CS rep was like, "Of course sir, your phone will update back to 2.1 after you factory reset".

/rolls eyes

Shows how much they know, but I surmised that was the case before I did it. Like I said, 2.0.1 ran MUCH better on my phone, and right now...I'm happy...just miss my new Gallery. :(

Try dialing *#*#checkin#*#* from your phone.

I will be posting a VERY detailed guide on how to do this. Stay tuned.

I have that already saved from the last one, lol. I'm surprised y'all didn't post it already.

Here's what I did for the last update, but got into it with "someone" here and removed it for various reasons that were unfair:

AGAIN, THIS IS NOT THE LATEST, THIS IS 2.0.1, PROCEDURE IS THE SAME:

THESE ARE USA VZ ACTIVATED PHONES

download:
https://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESD56-from-ESD20.84263456.zip

Rename to update.zip

Copy to you SD card as "update.zip". Check your windows options, it if
appears as just "update" get into windows and fix this.

Power off y0ur DROID, top key, hold it down and then select the menu
option to turn it off.

Wait a bit for it to actually power off.

Open the physicial keyboard.

Power back on with this: hold the the X key on the keypad and THEN, OR at
the same TIME, next hold the power button (top right button).

When you see a "/!\" symbol, press and hold first vol+, and then hold down
the camera button.
Keep holding it down for a bit... maybe 15-20 seconds IIRC...
Alternative, there's reports that you have to do it fast, or do it at the
same time.
We simply, and calmly did the vol+, and the did the camera button... 2
seconds or less in the process?

Once the menu shows....
Use the dpad to select the SD UPDATE.ZIP

Wait until the progress bar goes all the way.

When it's done hit the Dpad button, up top it says to hit it to reboot now.

Enjoy the new lockscreen and 2.0.1 goodness after reboot!

edit: There were other instructions at the time, but none were as complete as mine. It's not rocket science, and some of the "0 day 2.0.1 ones left out a lot of steps that could have left you hung up".

For the 2.01 update, I was in this second wave which was set to start at mid-night eastern time. I can only hope for this again!

Yeah you're right, I was just blowing smoke up your ass.

It does sound fishy, sorry. The way I see it, if you do, great, if you don't, that's fine too. I will get excited when I finally see the OTA on my phone, or the update.zip that I can put on myself. I've learned to trust nobody until one of those two happens. Either way, it will come sooner or later, so I'm not stressing over it ;-)

I had no reason to not believe you and I was really hopeful for this thread, but there is no other logical explanation for it. I am not exactly saying that you did not get 2.1 but perhaps you did not want to revert your update for the community but also wanted to seem like you were helping. I don't want to get into an argument about this and maybe you aren't lying. I guess only time will tell.

He has 200+ posts here. I do not believe he is lying. Lying about something like this means a "ban". I do not think he would jeopardize his account like this.
