OTA 2.1 Has started..

dang, i was thinking if I stayed up until 3am ET, I'd have this update.zip by now. Verizon should target first round updates to people who understand how to get files off of their Droid.

This might be a very nooby question, but I don't want to do something wrong. ! So excited!!! Anyways can someone tell me how to properly install Android 2.1 on the Droid?

Where does the zip file need to be placed on the SD card and what is the procedure to install it? Sorry if this has been discussed but could not find it.

Yes, rename to update.zip and place in the root of /sdcard

Then reboot to recovery and install (note that you will lose root access, as we do not have a known root exploit for this yet once installed).

We do have a way to root it for those that do not install the update, but not a way to root once installed.

So what do we do if we don't have an /sdcard or /cache? I've never done anything like this but I'm somewhat comp savvy. Just not with phones or Android.

Any help appreciated!

All I get is this

--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package..
Opening update package..
Verifying..
E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (NO such file or directory) Even though I downloaded it, renamed it update.zip and stuck it on the phone

E:Signature verification failed..
Aborted.
