Eris to v2.x, when?

Does anyone happen to know if the OTA will wipe everything off and create a clean slate? In other words, will we have to back everything up and re-upload it to the phone as in the case of manually installing the leak or will we be able to keep our stuff intact and have it update like the previous updates?

My guess would be that an entire OS upgrade would create a clean slate but it seems extremely tedious to expect everyone to be able to figure out the procedure for backing things up and re-uploading them. There are lots of tech illiterates out there after all (No, I'm not one of them)!

My contacts are saved on google, and my apps are backed up with AppBrain. I dont really care about anything else.
Maybe we will have to go through and set all of our settings the way we ant them again, but that isnt a big deal to me. Its not like its a common thing to have to do that.

I just got off the phone with HTC and the woman said that the official update will be out in the 2nd quarter April, May or June....

Damn, it's like waiting for a Aids test to come back...

I have not called HTC about the update, but I'd be inclined to ask the person where they got their information, if they offered a time frame like you say she did.

At this point, is seems like the Nexus 1 might be available through Verizon before the OTA for the Eris is released. I think I would rather get a upgrade credit or something and just get the N1. Even if VZ would let me upgrade for the "with new 2-yr contract" price, I would probably do it.

Love my Eris, but given the option... I'd take the bigger screen and 2.1 on the N1.

Who's with me?!

Maybe people who really need the power of the N1. But I knowingly picked a less powerful phone with an older version of the OS when I chose between Droid and Eris because I liked the size of the eris. I am not interested in anything bigger.

I've been thinking the exact same thing. The only problem is my contract is still under my parents name. That means I would have to go through them, and that's not always fun nor the best idea

At this point I will just probably wait to see if the iphone does in fact come to verizon like the Wall Street Journal has reported as of late. That would be the only phone I would bail out for.

If it does, and I'm nearly certain it will, and perhaps it will be available in some form or name from many carriers at some point in the not-so-distant future, it'll likely come around to Verizon around Christmas shopping time this year, I'll bet.

just curious, but, did anyone pick apart the update.zip file for the Droid to see if any of those .apk files could be used on our phones?

suggest you fork out $4.99 and install BackUp Pro from the market...piece of cake.

Wait....What did you mean by finally upgraded to 2.1.? Did you get that upgrade OTA? or is it just the leak version?

If he'd received the OTA he would be drunk, naked, partying and hollering a lot publicly. Plus he would have posted at least one thread with a lot of exclamation points declaring that his OTA had arrived.

That's fine for the people who read the forums. But there are a lot of Eris phones out there. Most of those Eris owners have no idea that an update is even expected. The update will take a lot of people completely by surprise and they won't have their stuff backed up. And they will NOT be happy if they lose all their data.

I'm running Leak 1. I had just finally taken the plunge and set my phone up the way I like it when the second leak came out. I'm not flashing the new leak unless I have a major problem with the first one. It wasn't that much trouble to set everything up again, but I'd rather not do it again - especially if the OTA is coming soon.

Why do you feel that VSW would owe you an update credit????? I just don't get this kind of thinking, you bought a phone with the software as is. Even if someone told you it was going to be updated someday you have nothing in writing. Go buy a pc, windows or mac, you get the operating system that comes on it. Both of them are working on their next OS, you know that, but you have to buy them.

Dang....talk about bursting our bubble on UPGRADE DAY.

There goes the wind from my sails...so long need for instant gratification.....who said it was ok to bring facts into this thread????

Hey - maybe they meant Pacific time. That means they still have 6.5 hours.....
