I'm torn between fueling more frustrating speculation and wanting to see if anyone has any info...Okay, here goes.

I read today that Apple has sued to ban HTC from importing phones into the U.S. Is this true, and does it impact the Incredible? Does anyone know?

Here's the thing: Verizon customers are generally such not by choice but by compulsion. We are those who require that their phones actually do telephony reliably, and exist in areas where Big Red is the only real game.

Sprint's prices seem awesome, and the EVO looks great. But where I am, I just don't think their service is an option. Sure, I hear that they roam on VZW's network, but I hear its not exactly an equal experience.

But thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Additionally, I use my phone for business. I cannot tolerate ONE DROPPED CALL!

Until 2000 I was with Cingular (now ATT), I was shocked that there were people actually getting service INSIDE STORES! Turns out it was VZ customers. I've switched and have never looked back. If I get one dropped call in two months, now, I'm peeved. ;)

Finally, VZ has been very, very good to me. They've bent over backwards to help me out when I've done stupid things, such as losing my xv 6900. They gave me another one for a two year contract price just 4 months after I got the original one at the two year contract price!!!

They've done several things like that for me. I know that I am a high paying customer, who pays on time, etc, but they really have bent over backwards. They just never had the good smartphones, until now.

They are now teasing us with two or three state of the art phones. I can't wait. Literally. I can't. Am I complaining about not getting the Incredible, bitterly? Uh huh. Do I love VZ. I do.

Hello All
Hi, I've been lurking since a little before the CTIA, originally had been searching for info on the N1, but got sucked into this pretty quickly.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info and entertainment and hard work by the Mods. Even the squabbling didn't bother me all that much, but I'll play by the rules!

I hope to stick around and learn from all your wisdom to get the most out of this device when it finally becomes available, as I'm not really super tech savvy (never heard of "rooting" before this forum, for example)

On a more personal note, I've noticed I have this issue- basically to keep waiting for the "next big thing". I've been eligible for many months now for an upgrade, but I keep waiting for this feature or that- didn't like the droid because it was too heavy, etc.

Now I'm wondering about the whole HDMI thing, because that is certainly a handy feature for every other device I own, and it doesn't sound like it will be on the Incredible. However, I can't keep waiting forever (for the Shadow, or whatever) since this whole experience, while being enriching has also been tormenting!

For what it's worth (not much), I have visited my Verizon store, the girl there must think I'm nuts because I keep coming in there with more info than she has, but as of yesterday she had finally heard of the Incredible from other employees, so that was finally some good news outside of this forum.

Anyhow, thanks again everyone!

I'm actually in the same boat as you, I'd LOVE an HDMI out, it is the one and only feature the EVO has that I'm truly jealous of... either way though I think I'm going to take the plunge with the Incredible, everything else is too good and I can't take my cracked screen BB Curve anymore.

Welcome to the blackhole that is the Incredible Forum.

The N1 has a ClearPad 2000 sensor, right? Is there any information about which touch screen sensor the Incredible has?
But is the problem on the N1 caused by the hardware or the software?

If the leaked ROM is any indication, I think I remember seeing at Atmel reference in there...but I'd have to check again. Atmel is an up-and-comer in that market, apparently, but I don't know if they manufacture the actual screen, or just the microcontrollers for it.

Long time lurker, been trying to get some info at the local Verizon stores in the Washington D.C. area. Swung by the Verizon store this morning and told the guy "I'm sure you've been asked about this a few times by now" and he immediately goes "Oh no not the iPhone!". I assured him I have no interest in ever getting an iPhone and that I was curious about a different phone. I started to say "The HTC Incredible..?" and without hesitation the rep snaps back and says "this month! definitely this month!" He then started to say "next..." but was interrupted by some lady in the back (Manager?) yelling his name in what seemed like an attempt to tell him to keep his mouth shut.

Not sure if this means much, take it FWIW, but he definitely seemed confident that it was coming out this month, and almost seemed to be ready to mention next week before he was interrupted. Maybe an announcement next week and release a week later is falling into place!

Either way I told him I was bringing over a whole family plan to Verizon once this phone was released and that if he called me with any info on this device before it came out, that I would sign up the whole plan with him. I will keep you posted if I hear back.

On the Nexus thread they are assuming it will be released on a tuesday because the N1 was released on tuesdays for all of the other carriers.

Thanks, didnt read it that intensively. The idea sounds promising, I would imagine Verizon would want to steal any thunder it could from a Google N1 announcement with an announcement about the Incredible. I cant remember if any of the other carriers had made announcements pre-N1 release.

Thanks for the info and for coming out of the closet. Personally, I'm trying to figure out why the heck I'd need an HDMI port on my telephone, for Pete's sake. I wait and wait and wait for the next new model, just like other geeks, but when the Incredible comes, I'm getting on that train!

Like I said before, I am not a phone techie. This is going to sound like a very stupid question to many of you, but what would you use a HDMI port on your phone for?

And I posted this on the temp forum yesterday...

The VZW retailer store I went to yesterday told me the nexus one and incredible were supposed to be released weeks ago but were held up because of google's fight with the Chinese government. I questioned him why that would have anything to do with it because HTC was in Taiwann but he said the operating system is made by China Mobile. I had no argument for him because this was a new reason and I was kinda speechless.... But.. how does this make any sense because HTC is still releasing phones correct?

WARNING TO STEVEN58...... since you have come back from the dead....do not read this part....

he also said 30-90 days for the release of either one.

I use the HDMI out from my laptop to play movies I download on my tv all the time.. it looks great.

If you could do that from your phone (and with a 16-32 GB Card you could fit a lot of movies etc). Or even stream netflix from your phone to a TV. I would definetly use it, but that's just me, not everyone would.

i'll tell you exactly why i'd want an hdmi port on my phone. so i could watch movies, videos, etc that are stored on my phone on a tv with hdmi, whether it be on vacation or a friends house.

For displaying your 8MP photogallery on an HDTV. And for playing back the videos you recorded in 720p (ahem.)

Kids and their technology... steven feels as if he is falling behind because of his age. ;)

Hey :) don't worry about it. It's not gonna effect phones for a long time. I mean the Nokia vs Apple hearing got pushed back to 2010 and that was filled awhile ago .... and even so they will probably settle out of court. No worries.

I hear you, what I'm thinking is the addition of HDMI out will give you an instant connection to play back video (if it's really 720p) with only one cable necessary that won't degrade the audio/video. That's all I can think of, really, you're right, I'm being much too much of a geek about it.

Just part of my neurosis, I guess!

Thanks Steven, for all you have contributed on this forum. I was just in NYC last weekend. What a great town- it's always been my favorite!!

So... I come back from being away all morning and everything stops? What should I read into that? ;)

You could basically use it as a web cam or a video cam. HDMI has much greater bandwidth available to stream media.

Bottom line: It makes it easier to be used as an output device to something that you want to store or display media to.

++ HDMI is a standard media terminator. (not "The Terminator" but as in a terminating end) ahhh heck you get the idea.

No Netflix for Android yet (since silverlight isn't supported by linux ... android is linux) but since they are doing an app for the iPad there is hope that it'll come sometime.

Haha no worries Steven, HDMI has made doing this so simple these days. No more RCA cords and matching up colors. It is just one cord that takes care of HD video and Sound.

It all sounds complicated but it really isn't. You can see the guy doing this in one of the EVO videos where he is playing an HD movie (Blu-ray quality I believe) from the phone connected to a projector/hd tv. I'll see if I can find it.
