You could basically use it as a web cam or a video cam. HDMI has much greater bandwidth available to stream media.

Bottom line: It makes it easier to be used as an output device to something that you want to store or display media to.

Pretty soon you won't need a computer, dvd player/recorder, video camer, tv, can opener, car or telephone. Everything will be done by one device!

Thanks for the info and for coming out of the closet. Personally, I'm trying to figure out why the heck I'd need an HDMI port on my telephone, for Pete's sake. I wait and wait and wait for the next new model, just like other geeks, but when the Incredible comes, I'm getting on that train!

I think HDMI would be nice for say playing the video's taken on the phone on your tv but not sure really how often I would use that feature. It is definitely not a deal breaker. The shadow is a nice device and all but will not have the Sense UI the HTC phones do and I am really looking forward to having that so for me it is a non issue. I like the look of the HTC handsets way more than the boxy angular lines of the Motorola devices so the Incredible is the one for me when it ever comes out. Have never never never had a problem with Verizon's service and have never been in an area where I had no service. I have NEVER had 1 dropped call on Verizon and with T mobile and Cincinnati Bell ( which I believe mostly uses At and T towers) either didn't have a signal at my home ( tmobile) or work ( cin bell/at&t) Cincinnati is not exactly east bumf---. Just my .02.

I hate to do the ole "I have a friend thing" but she is the manager of a Best Buy Mobile. I asked her if we could go through her computer to check the Verizon listings to see if we could find out when it was coming. Although, every listing was just a code number (and none of the ones previously mentioned for the phone) they had the phone value and delivery date attached to it. The only phone coming this month that was valued at almost $600 was to be delivered on April 25. I can't think of any other phone it could be.

Granted, who knows if BB even gets the phone on the drop date, but even a few weeks ago I had heard April 25 and the comment here

Verizon HTC Incredible is a Nexus One in Red? Phone Reviews

says it as well. I know it's all speculation but seeing the delivery date on their computer and hearing April 25 a few other places is the most concrete thing I've seen in weeks.

No Netflix for Android yet (since silverlight isn't supported by linux ... android is linux) but since they are doing an app for the iPad there is hope that it'll come sometime.

Very True, but just as the sales of the PS3/WII pushed netflix to finally support streaming through those systems... It'll come as android grows I have no doubt.

The real issue is getting Netflix to add more of their library to Instant!

The N1 has a ClearPad 2000 sensor, right? Is there any information about which touch screen sensor the Incredible has?
But is the problem on the N1 caused by the hardware or the software?

I believe it's hardware related. I read an article on it a while back. If I understand correctly the 2000 panel doesn't detect multitouch points and track each one specifically. It's more that detects two touch points and uses a histrogram to determine their locations. That's why it's just fine at pinch and zoom, because they can measure the peeks on the histogram, but it gets confused when those two peaks get very close to each other, and that causes the confusion when tracking the points as they cross each others' axis.

I'm sure they can try to mitigate this a bit with software, but from what I understand there's no way to completely accurately track multiple points in the way that the ClearPad 3000 does.

I apologize if any of this isn't completely accurate, it's just what I recollect form the article I saw shortly after the whole touchpad issue was announced.

I completely agree. Sense, and the sexyness that is sleek black with red accents etc. It's just one of those phones people will stop you and ask what it is, or ask you if they can play with it. I was never a fan of the Droid looks, although from what I can tell the Shadow does look better, but it still has a keyboard and that to me still looks toyish.

HDMI isn't a deal breaker for me either, just something I'd use... I'll get by with just having it on my laptop for now ;)

Humm... okay I get it now... but can't see myself doing that but I STILL WANT this phone... NOW!!

I had a dare. I could have upgraded last summer. I couldn't find a phone that I would even want to spend money on and they didn't have any they could give me for free! So I finally got the moto droid, hated it, returned it in 2 weeks. The android os was awesome, surfing was awesome, but it sux as a phone. No one could hear me and if they could I either sounded muffled or like I was in a deep deep barrel of something. Got it on the BOGO so my son got one too. He loves his. I didn't want to go back to the dare so I am using his BB tour. NOT a fan. I don't have a book so anything I know about how to operate the stoopid thing is what I learn by doing. Yeah I could look up the manual on the net... does not seem worth my time cause I WILL be getting a new phone "soon". The guy at the VZW store yesterday asked me what browser I was using cause I said it was sooooo slow. He showed me how to switch it to firefox. :p Better but really difficult to be happy with after playing with android.

$20 for the Eris!!.... I have a $50 upgrade credit...I am on the edge..... I could jump soon/today....someone save me!!

If the leaked ROM is any indication, I think I remember seeing at Atmel reference in there...but I'd have to check again. Atmel is an up-and-comer in that market, apparently, but I don't know if they manufacture the actual screen, or just the microcontrollers for it.
Okey, I don't know anything about Amtel.
I wonder why no phone has the ClearPad 3000 yet.
If you havn't heard about it, watch this: Synaptics ClearPad 3000 Series on Vimeo

Simple enough to transfer the videos on your phone to your laptop and then hook your laptop to tv is my thinking.

The Eris has been out forever now! It's OLD news. Come on, it's just a re-badged Hero! You've waited this long for the Incredible, no wonder the Eris is being given away for a penny :-D

I don't want to drive this point into the ground, but HDMI is really the way to go.

If we're going to use this phone to record video (and why not?) then those of you who aren't familiar with HDMI will be pleasantly shocked to find out how simple it is to run one cable from your device to your TV and watch whatever without any degradation- on a much bigger screen.

As it is right now we're going to have to transfer through the USB to a secondary device (like a HD Media Player or HDMI-enabled lap top) to get the same experience

However, you're right about the Sense UI being pretty cool, and making this definitely not a deal-breaker!

thinking of getting an Eris for my wife, though, this price-drop is playing right into my hands!! It is a pretty nice phone, good feel and size....

It seems that VZW doesn't have a straight-cut policy on keeping secrets. Every time I hear a VZW store story it will be a rep telling a release date and a manager telling them to be quiet. And to be honest, I've lost all hope in VZW reps. I remember when the guys were posting from talking to their local reps, "The Bravo will be in stores this month!" That was Jan. :(

p.s. I did mean Bravo. Some of you might not have been as obsessed as long as I have, but Steven beat my post count!!!

HDMI is a must!!! Anytime you want to show off the latest pron you downloaded on your unlimited data plan :D

The VZW retailer store I went to yesterday told me the nexus one and incredible were supposed to be released weeks ago but were held up because of google's fight with the Chinese government. I questioned him why that would have anything to do with it because HTC was in Taiwann but he said the operating system is made by China Mobile. I had no argument for him because this was a new reason and I was kinda speechless.... But.. how does this make any sense because HTC is still releasing phones correct?
Call me crazy, but I thought Android was made by Google... An American company. :p Perhaps he meant Sense, but I have never heard of that being anything but an in-house HTC product.

I wouldn't put too much stock in whatever your source has to say after hearing that.

Very true, I was more thinking that if I didn't have my laptop with me. One of the things I'm hoping this phone will allow me to do is not have to bring my laptop everywhere.

I was on vacation a couple weeks ago and I unhooked the DVD player where I was staying and hooked up my laptop through HDMI to watch movies.. If I didn't have my laptop and could do it through my phone I just think that would be a pretty cool feature. Again, by no means necessary and not something I'd use all that often either way (especially if I couldn't plug in the phone while playing the movie, can't imagine the battery drain that would be).
