I flashed last night before bed. For some reason I had a hiccup while trying to restore my homescreen and settings. It seemed to not properly backup my homescreen. I haven't done tons to it yet so if I have to I can just manually set everything back up again. Just didn't want to deal with it before bed so I restored. Today I will flash again and flash BT kernel. I noticed they changed the sms icon from the nice black and blue to the green one. It doesn't fit the theme at all... How can I use the old icon? Can I pull it from a backup?

If you backed up the entire SMS from 2.5 I don't see why not. Lens stated the black was for 2.5 only since there was hiccups with the current SMS.
Just delete current SMS before restoring 2.5 SMS so it doesn't go haywire probably.

Got the old icon but still have the updated texting that came with the new version!!! Here's what I did:
I put both roms on my pc. Browsed the old rom with 7-zip and extracted the icon from the Mms.apk. (the icon was called ic_launcher_smsmms.png) Then I browsed the new rom and copied the Mms.apk to my desktop. I browsed that with 7-zip and replaced the icon with the one i extracted from the older version. Then I used command promt and used these commands. adb remount and then adb push to push the apk to my phone. Restarted phone and the "messaging" icon was changed to the awesome black and blue version
The messaging app has definitely been improved on this update so I didn't want to use the old one. I am now going to do this to a few other apps.
Don, I was using desktop visualizer (which is great) but it only changes the icon on your homescreen. Does not work on lockscreen or app drawer or anywhere else. This method changes the entire launcher icon globally

Well depends on the lock screen, some are not able to be changed like PA, but if you use and an app and change the icon, then simply drag that to the drawer and you new icon is there, as you see in my screen I posted a while back. Sense lock screen use the Icons that are in the drawer.
As for MMS app, all I did was disabled notification for SMS, and then installed Handscent, which I prefer as it has many more option, I then disable the lock screen on PA, and now when I get a text, my screen wakes up with the text pop up and I can type away.

To add to my above post, if lens made a black/blue icon pack like is did for SMS, that would be kick ass

If you want the text message icon I can host the .apk file. Then you just have to push it to your phone... Cool thing is too, that when you back it up with TB or anything, it will backup your updated version so you never have to push it again

If you want an icon for an app, simply ask Eyebeam, he can do what you need

Yes sir... Unless I make it an update.zip that you can just flash via recovery... I can try that first if you want... it would be the easiest if the file works.
Just a heads up, when doing it through command prompt, I was getting a read only error and had to change my permissions on that file to allow write access... Not sure if that matters for the update.zip but if it fails, you might need to change permissions.

It should just replace it. As long as the update.zip works, you should just have to flash and that's it.. Basically it should update your already existing app to have a new icon.
I'm not 100% sure but I think you have to actually rename to update.zip and put on the root of your sd card. I know on 4 ext recovery, when booted into recovery, under install from sd card there is an option to apply update.zip. It finds it automatically and takes a second to flash... not sure if it can be done from the app... I'm new to this. You're my guinea pig

I'm going to make some simple icons more in the style of that mms icon tomorrow. After I make them I'll take a screen shot and if you want them, I'll package them up in a nice little zip for you!
