Dorimanx kernel - Dummies Guide

Dorimanx kernel v7.12 for ICS/JB is up! :)

"Change Log:

*Added NEW STweaks App by GM, and cut support for EXtweaks!
many functions not working with extweaks any more.
In next kernel i will add CLEANING code to remove extweaks on each boot to prevent collision, and "not working! posts using extweaks!"
New STweaks load 2~5sec! and looks GOOD and show all messages on button checks.
App will be OPEN SOURCE so it's will be improved in time even more

*Switched to GM BLN driver code.
We get 2 new MODS.
1.BLN without wakelock that save power when BLN active. and not wake the CPU.
2.Dynamic Key back light, will change with screen brightness.
we can turn it's ON/OFF
"

Think a Hawker GS2KernelWipe and deleting ExTweaks profiles in Recovery might be in order if STweaks is now flavour of the month.

Dorimanx 7.13 is up now. I am on 7.11. The guy is one hell of a prolific dev. But do i need to flash a new kernel every time a new one comes out?? :P

Dorimanx kernel v7.13 for ICS/JB. :)

"(kernel 7.12 REMOVED! (BLN + Touch screen smoothness BUGS)

Change Log:

*All that was in 7.12 Exist!
*Fixed Support for CWManager App and it's will be installed on boot to system!
Thanks to GM for help solving the problem
*Fixed BLN effects! now works as planned! (breathing + blinking without blnww!)
*Updated to latest STweaks app by GM!
*From this kernel extweaks app will be deleted on boot! and replaced by STweaks!
ExTweaks app no longer supported! every one that using it, may have some functions not working any more. dont post BUG reports if you are using Extweaks to config kernel.
We want Open Source! and we got it! Big Thanks to GM for that!
*Restored some code that i have removed in 7.12, screen acted not as should, now back to normal. fast and smooth.
*Fixed WIFI auto on/off if enabled in cortex tab.

Dorimanx kernel v7.14 for ICS/JB is up!. :)

Start reading...

"Change Log:

*Improved memory handling tuning. much better now.
*Improved stability for big file transfer to BIG/SLOW external sdcards.
*Fixed small bugs and corrected STweaks default descriptions.
*Added VPLL mod off/on when screen is OFF/ON and mod activated, but VPLL activation will be delayed for 4~5sec, to reduce random LAG after long standby.
*Added NEW MOD! (people asked what next? Linux CRON TAB is NEXT!)
I have added full working crontab mod to STweaks with 4 ready Jobs to do.
If you know how to tune cron to add your stuff, go ahead
look for /data/crontab/cron/root here you add the time when to activate JOB, and where the script is.

All get 4 ready tasks! each can be ON/OFF via STweaks! (NEW TAB)
CRON can be OFF/ON, there is a main switch.
CRON uses tiny amount of RAM to operate,
it's not using CPU/GPU/I/O so no battery DRAIN! (if you loose battery, it's not CRON! ) dont look for easy blame.
Cron will set the timezone for it self by auto, need to check if all OK, and time of task execution is correct, (but i expect it to be +-1 Hour different, because of daylight saving! it's hard to fix for now)

JOBS are:
1)clean RAM cache each hour! this will help to hold device in good shape and with free RAM for new app that you load.
it's releasing all the JUNK leftovers that use RAM without any reason. not any more

2)Clean Apps cache folders! every app has a cache folder, and it's stores there some junk, so CRON will clean it every 4:00AM

3)Permissions Fix, normal operation but it's will work at 4:40AM, It's good to have all apps fixed with correct permissions, to reduce bugs and errors.

4)ZipAling All DATA Apps. this will help to speed up APPS load time and fix the zip format as should be for android. some apps released without this FIX, so Cron Task Job take care of this.
Will work at 4:50AM

You can see the LOGS after night, to see if JOB was DONE +- in time.
CRON task will delay JOB execution in case CPU is busy, till it's will be IDLE.

*I have unset VPLL mode by default from performance profile. if it's OK for you set it back to ON.

Some SAMMY ROMS don't have advanced busybox, so CRON will not work.
you can check if it's ONLINE or Not supported. via STweaks CRON Task Tab.

You can update busybox via apps that can do it. you need 1.18+ version.
best the latest.
All JB roms has full support
Many ICS custom ROMS, also support CRON.

UPDATE

CRON Tasks working OK on NEAT ROM LPY.

I am running Neat Lite v3.5 with a Dorimanx 7.14 kernel, and when I go and set the "Touch Key Light Duration" to always off, the backlight keys still light up. I am assuming this is the kernel issue as when I initially flashed this version of Neat with Siyah 4.1.5 the back lit keys would stay off. I have cleared both cache partition and dalvik cache, along with fixing permissions.

Am I the only one having this issues?

Well, Dorimanx did not lie!

I used Dorimanx kernel, v7.14, last night, with Cron Tasks enabled and lost no more battery than usual but woke up with my phone, "Spring cleaned". Admittedly, for the first few seconds after waking it up, it appeared groggy after its overnight blitz but none the worse for wear and very quick and snappy after that. These are the sort of tasks that I carry out, "as and when", and to have them automated is no bad thing IMHO. Particularly when it is all done when you are asleep and appears to not affect your battery.

Some of you may find that you need to update your BusyBox to v1.20.2 by opening the app and selecting Smart Install and following the instructions..

7.15 is now up.
Cant be bothered finding the changelog

Right Hawker! This is the last time I show you how to do it properly...

Dorimanx kernel v7.15 for ICS/JB is up! :)

"Change Log:

*All above functions present.
*Removed Touch screen Freq boost tuning, now it's set to 500Mhz on touch as default, this mod brake GOVS/CPU code and not really needed.
*Fixed many BUGS in cortex script, and in others.
*Retuned/fixed profiles
*Deleted old junk scripts.
*Tuned WIFI driver to be more stable on Tether and long connections.

(Hawker is just too eager to get off to the Wales vs Argentina rugby match)

You'll get told off by iron ass for that

I'm going to get you a wooden spoon Syd! :D

There was nothing stopping you from posting the changelog. Just think on this... when you're safely tucked up in bed tonight, I'll be out, testing that new modem you recommended! ;)

Hawker,

Set it to always off in your display options

As you can see I have turned them to always off. I just flashed 7.15 and this issue is still there for me. Anyone want to try it on their device and see if they get the same result? Or does anyone know another way to get them to turn off....script/app?

Thanks for the help

Syd recommended a modem ? That'll not work then ! KODded !

Seriously, I'm going to have a look at 7.15 tonight, I can't keep up, not that you need to I feel. An update every four versions or so it's surely enough. One question is S-Tweaks as configurable and as easy to use ? I think I need to do some reading.

Go to... Settings > Display > Touch key light duration > Always off

next...

STweaks > BLN > LEDS ON WITH TOUCH > led-on-touch... uncheck

I know that.... I'm just humouring him! ;)

STweaks is virtually identical to ExTweaks. If in doubt, just opt for the profile that best suits your needs.

Hawker Alert! I would not anticipate any help from Hawker today as he has been supporting Wales in the rugby today and will be drowning his sorrows...

Wales 12-26 Argentina.

However, this side of the River Severn...

England 54-12 Fiji :D

Go to... Settings > Display > Touch key light duration > Always off

next...

STweaks > BLN > LEDS ON WITH TOUCH > led-on-touch... uncheck

Worked perfect, Thank you!

Since I have been rooted, I have never seen my BusyBox. Never worried about it before, as I just assumed it did its work behind the scenes. But now I wanted to try these CRON Tasks, but apparently I need to get it updated. How do I open BusyBox so I can update it?

Install the Busybox app from the Play store and make sure to install to /system/xbin

PS... you really could've searched for an answer to.that just like the LED question you had

ironass,

I updated my BusyBox to 1.20.2 from a zip file that I found off of the xda site. As usual, you were absolutely right and now my CRON Tasks operate just fine. I had looked at the BusyBox apps on the Play Store, but none of them were the same version as you had mentioned above.

Just out of curiosity, do you use an actual BusyBox app off of Google Play to keep it updated or just push the updated zip files as they come out?

But back on track now, so far I am really liking this Dorimanx kernel. Battery life is good and the tweaking ability is incredible.

Dorimanx kernel v7.15 withdrawn. Problems with FC and Wi-Fi.

Reverting to previous version. Awaiting updated release!

UPDATE: v7.15.1 out now!

Same problems as v7.15

Reverting to v7.14

I personally use Stericson's BusyBox installer app

Further to my hurried updates from the pub in post #95...

Dorimanx kernel v7.15.1 for ICS/JB is up! :)

"

I re-installed the above kernel, this time, after doing a kernel and ExTweaks wipe which I did not do initially in my previous post.

All seems to be OK and no freezes in the few hours I have had this on now. However, the Cron tasks feature does not seem to have kicked in during the night/early morning, for me.

Thanks Ironass. I'll give 7.15.1 a whirl when I get ten minutes between jobs (on call this weekend, "on call" an ironic euphemism for "working 12 hours per day").

I like the idea of Cron, from my hastily googled learning I think I understand it. Basically it is a daemon that runs certain tasks to a schedule defined by the user. Now if I had time to really get in to Linux, had the luxury of killing my phone with bad code and not being too upset I'd try writing my own scripts for it. Now if only I could programme my phone using Z80 assembly language, I'd get it to crash faster than a ZX81 with a wobbly RAM pack.

After the, "dogs breakfast", of the Dorimanx kernel v7.15 on Saturday, which caused freezes and FC's and saw me reverting to an earlier version, v7.14, and then install a hastily revised version, v7.15.1, as well as trying to update the forum, all from the Twilight Zone pub whilst using beer goggles... I'm afraid that the news is not good for me!

The revised Dorimanx kernel, v7.15.1, is, IMHO, just a stop gap measure designed only to cure the freezes and FC's that its predecessor offered.

So far, the Cron Tasks are non operational for me and the battery usage is higher than before, possibly a Wi-Fi and Deep Sleep related problem. Also, the scrolling is not as smooth as before and I was forced to disable VPLL and reduce my u/v'ing.

In fairness to Dorimanx, he is aware of these problems and advises that you can revert back to an earlier version in the interim. Since versions 7.12/13/14/15 have been withdrawn, this means that unless you are lucky enough to have a copy of v7.14, which is performing much better than the latest release, you will have to go back to the pre Cron Tasks and STweaks release of v7.11, or earlier.

With the release of the new Siyah kernel v5.0.1 today, I do not anticipate that it will be too long before we see another release from Dorimanx which will hopefully rectify the above problems.
