I only asked because the last few times I've seen this problem it was related to the NV items being corrupt and the phone being stuck in airplane mode.... but none the less...

I have posted this before but I dont recall where,

you can use terminal emulator, or adb shell and at the
# prompt use this
echo 1 > /sys/devices/virtual/usb_composite/diag/enable
Then when done restart phone or use
echo 0 > /sys/devices/virtual/usb_composite/diag/enable

there's always the low-tech solution.
1) Odin in, stock firmware.
2) RMA to Samsung for repair

:)

so i followed the intructions step by step and rooted my samsung galaxy prevail version 2.3.6 and it worked fine.. i fell asleep and my phone died. When i woke up i put my phone on the charger cause it was dead. it shows nothing no battery charging nothing so i try to turn it on while on the charger and it wont cut on its just doing nothing at all.. :/ what do i do now to get my phone working again the root worked fine till my phone died :/ Please help

Hi,

have you tried pulling out the battery for a few minutes ( like 5-10 ), then put it back in, then connect the charger and leave it at least like 15 minutes without trying to turn it on ?
If that doesn't work, my guess would be that it may was a faulty battery and when it got discharged too low, it just died..... Might need to get a new battery..... But try it first......

EDIT : Could be also the outlet ( try another wall outlet ), or it could be the charger..... can you try to connect the cable to a computer's USB port ????? Or could be the cable itself too.......

Let us know !

Well im currently letting battery sit out of phone without phone on charger atm hoping this works.. i know its not my charger i tested the charger on my friends phone just to be sure. i have my usb hooked up to the comp atm and waiting a bit to put it into phone... i was reading another forum post and ppl are saying that there phones wouldnt turn on after using rom manager and theres were possably bricked.... by doing this root did in any way it mess with rom manager? i did root exactly like it said to and it was working great... i mean im new to using a rooted phone and nowere on the post did this say do not let phone die... ive heard of not letting jailbroken i phones die or it would have to be hard reset but my android atm isnt doing anything at all i tried hard booting it etc nothing was coming on imma hook my phone battery in it now and let it charge for 15 mins minimum and hope it does something... but shouldent i atleast be able to see the battery charging status pop up if my phone is chargibng like always when phone is off?

ok well i tried tghat and left battery out for 15 minutes... dun dun dun ... nothing at all still just black screen :/ this really sucks... i dont know anyobne else with the same phone around me :/ so i cant try there battery to see if its my battery but this battery has been good to me... hmm i am at a loss for words now .. any suggestions of ways to get phone to cut on using a program thats free to download but still dont see how this would work if my phone wont show connected to comp ...

i tried option one ...no luck ...i can get a wifi connection intermittently but thats it ..i can get the phone in diag mode using adb... but cdma ws, qpst, qxdm, and dfs will see the phone is there but none of these programs will read or write to it.. i also tried dd if=/dev/cdma.rfs of=/dev/stl5 here is what i get:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>adb.exe shell
# su
su
# dd if=/dev/stl5 of=/dev/cdma.rfs
dd if=/dev/stl5 of=/dev/cdma.rfs
dd: /dev/stl5: Input/output error
# dd if=/dev/cdma.rfs of=/dev/stl5
dd if=/dev/cdma.rfs of=/dev/stl5
504+0 records in
504+0 records out
# dd if=/dev/cdma.rfs of=/dev/stl5
dd if=/dev/cdma.rfs of=/dev/stl5
504+0 records in
504+0 records out
# reboot
reboot

and the i have the original backed up and all nv files backed up .but they are useless since i cant writ to phone ..when i go into ##3282# to view i can see that the phone has no "identity" no esn no meid no nothing all blank!

like i said i dont need to fix this but like all of us i am sure we just want to know how for the next time lol:D:rolleyes:

Hmmmmm, sorry to hear it's still not working..... Seems like your phone isn't charging ( you said AC adapter and cable are o.k. )..... Maybe the USB port on the phone is broken..... and prevent charging....

With the phone connected to the AC adapter ( while charging ), can you press and hold " VOL- and Camera and Power buttons" until a yellow "Download" shows ? ( but hey, if the battery is totally discharged and the phone doesn't get power, it probably won't work either......

Hmmmm not sure what to say, maybe someone else has an idea.....

I know its not my usb its been working fine ive even used multiple chargers to see if its mine its not mine its everything i think my phone is bricked :/ meaning im just plain screwed i wish i had never rooted my phone now :/

Hi,

I don't think the rtooting is the problem. Rooting the Prevail, especially via the "Dummy Guide" is probably the most safest way to root !

It MUST be a hardware failure somehow.... Not sure what, but Battery, the USB port on the phone itself, or any other component.....

If you didn't use "ROM Manager" there is almost nothing what would brick the Prevail during rooting.

Probably best to call Samsung for warranty repair !!!

Well, what size of SD-Card do you have ? What ROM ( CTMod3.68??? ) did you install and what did you use for settings when you partitioned the SD-CARD ????

If you followed the guide and , for example, have a 2 GB sdcard, you should use 512MB or max 1024MB = 1GB for the partition you will use as "systemram"..... of course, if you do that, you will loose that amount from your FAT32 partition.

So, lets say you have a 2GB card and had on your card 1.5GB of Music or other files on it, then you used 1024 when you partitioned the card, then now your card has only 1GB left and you cant copy all your file back.........It just depends how you have set it up.......

To answer my own question from post #549: I've compiled tun.ko module for CTMod 3.68. I've uploaded the module to Tun.ko Installer so Prevail users can just download the app for use with OpenVPN. I also posted the instructions and comments at How to compile tun.ko module for rooted Samsung Prevail running CTMod. I do not think people are dying to get it but someone may find it useful.

One note about your page... I didn't create ctmod. Bloodawn did.

I am not even the originator of this guide. I just stepped up to maintain it when Caeadas moved on.
