I'm a rather thrifty person, and I consider the amount I pay for phone and light data service already to be a lot so I'm not happy when I hear about any additional fees. Switching to an android device from winmo will already force me into an everything data family plan, instead of my current family plan with data on only one line.
I plan on dealing with the retentions department when the EVO is released and it's time to renew all 4 lines because they will switch me over to the required everything plan and then add a discount to bring the price down to what we're already paying when I tell them that we won't pay more for the same service we've already been paying for. Me running an android device doesn't cost them more than me using a winmo device. They will do what it takes to retain a customer that they've had for over 8 years with 4 lines, whose paid at least $130 on time every month. It's all about subscriber volume, and a retentions employee would probably get fired for letting go of 4 long term lines that easily.
Regarding the extra charge for wifi tethering, I've said it before - almost every other android device can do this with root access and a sideloaded program, and that is what I plan to do instead of paying extra for sprint's program. I'm not going to pay more for something I've been doing all along with my 2.5 year old htc ppc-6800, using WMWifiRouter v.91. I know there are a lot of people on forums that say people who are bitter about paying so much and do what they can to reduce their cost are making it cost more for everyone else or whatever the argument is, but I look at it more as the carriers are trying to rape us for as much money as possible to increase their profit and there's no way it actually costs them $130 a month for us to use our 4 phones as lightly as we do, so we'd be dumb sheep just to go along with it and not do what's possible to keep the cost down.
