On GB (both spec and lucid) the bootloader was unlocked, meaning you can play around with stuff without much fear of bricking your phone. On ICS, the locked down aboot (the first partition that boots) and every partition after that. This includes recovery and boot. If you mod either, you get the security error and have to reflash a .cab file. The boot partition itself carries a binary program called "wallpaper". This program checks for certain files in /system and if they are not there or have been modded, will also trigger the security error. We got around this on the Spectrum by replacing the entire boot chain with the unlocked GB one, but you need a custom kernel to run ICS then. The stock one will not work as it checks back up the chain to make sure everything is still locked back to Aboot. The rom I built is running a custom boot image that should allow ICS to boot. If it does, then I just need the partition images from GB for the lucid and we can all it a day with making the tool. The biggest hiccup is getting a boot image that works, and the Spec and Lucid are very close chip wise, so this should work. Depending on how close they are, we may even be able to port over our CM10 build, which we're just putting the finishing touches on.
