Root HTC Eris is stuck on Black screen with 4 triangles and "HTC" in middle!!!!

hi i have tried to download that rom & i can not get that rom downloaded for anything. i also have been looking online at other eris rom & everyone thought about downloading i couldn't get to download either. do you think that you could once again show me where to download that rom, that you said was a good rom to try? please. i did get the radio downloaded & i plan on running that radio as soon as the phone completely charges up. i am so grateful for all your help. thank you.

the ruu overwrote your custom recovery, wich is no big deal. since you have the s-off bootloader, you can easily install your recovery, just like you did with the htcdev hboot. you should still have it in your miniadb folder,so just place the phone in fastboot, open cmd,and flash recovery with this command:

fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img

reboot the phone with fastboot reboot

for a custom rom,i might suggest your first one to be a somewhat stockish one,so id recomend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726467

as doogald mentioned, youre on an older radio,so you can update that if you want by downloading this zip file and installig it in recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=297006&d=1269194832

you can install the radio and rom at the same time if you want,or you can do one first, then the other later.

youll just download, transfer to sd card, then flash them in recovery like you did the other files.

whenever yuo change roms, its not a bad idea to do a "full wipe" in recovery wich consists of:
-data/factory reset
-cache
-dalvik cache

bobcat has a good guide on flashing roms here:
http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/521699-flashing-roms-without-pc.html

you can subsitute steps 3-9 with "download on to pc,transfer to sd card" if you dont want to use the phone itself to do the downloading.

just holler if you have any more questions! :)

the rom and radio info are above. what prollems are you having trying to download the roms? are you using the phone,or your PC?

if youre having prollems downloading them directly to the phone, then download with the PC,then transfer the rom to the sd card. :)

question. was i to use the computer or phones internet connection? if it does not matter, i was using my laptop & every link for that even the earlier ones i'd get this exact message-

Which ROM are you looking for? I have copies of nearly everything and can post a link.

i seem to have a issue i found a rom that i thought that i'd use. downloaded it to my sdcard reader on my laptop. it's still there now. well i haven't even touched the phone for days. i wanted to be sure i found a rom, & check the sum in cmd. well i boot to h-boot then try to go into recovery right. i get a white triangle with a yellow exclamation point with droid dude now. i then remember i forgot to put sdcard in. still i wanted to ask you.will not having the sdcard in cause that? but the phone still works it boots into the normal verizon boot.

the first one that was suggested to me.
this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726467

foxy, what youre seeing is the stock recovery, wich you cannot use to instal roms. it does not have anything to do with the sd card not being in place. the answer to this predicament was in the same post as the rom suggestion:

youll simply need to reinstall your recovery as described above and then you can flash the rom you want to try :)

well i didn't realize i still needed that so trying to clear up space i kind of deleted it. oops!
can you kindly remind me where to download that again. please this time i think i'll save it. thank you.

forget that question i reread #26. now i get sorry. my mom always said i should of been born blond, not say anything bad about blonds. it's because i am a girl & they use to say blond girls are normally dizzy or just act that way.

-the latest custom recovery image of your choice, for your device(post if you need help finding one) would this be the rom that i now have in my miniadb file?along with the radio? and if so do i flash in cmd the radio first or the rom?

The custom recovery is here: https://sites.google.com/site/scary...-v1.6.2-trackball-optional.img?attredirects=0

After downloading that file (recovery-RA-eris-v1.6.2-trackball-optional.img) to your computer, in the same folder as where you have the adb files (I believe that's c:\mini-adb, if I have been reading this well), you'll get the phone into fastboot mode and run the following commands:

fastboot devices

-should return serial number
-permanently flash your recovery to phones recovery partition:

fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-eris-v1.6.2-trackball-optional.img

You should then be able to restart the phone in Recovery.

It's ok, Foxy. Scotty and Doogald are bout the remaining last (go to folk's) that are left in the Eris ATR (all things root) and Scary and I help out when we can. :)

The Eris was my first Android. I'm always watching. :smokingsomb:

Oh and......
I'm not blond either. ;)

foxy,i dont think youre dumb or dizzy... i think maybe you just need to pay a lil more attention to the info the posts are relaying. my impressions are that you just get excited, and skip over/forget some important info.

you have definately done a good job here, youve learned alot of stuff about hacking and manipulating a smartphone with your PC,and youve brought a pretty hard core soft bricked eris back from the dead. you are certainly to be commended for your patience and persistance :smokingsomb:  *internet high five*

back to the phone issue... all you need to do is re-install the recovery as doogald described.

once you have your recovery back on the phone, you can install your rom and radio. you can install the radio and rom at the same time if you want,or you can do one first, then the other later.

youll just download, transfer to sd card, then flash them in recovery like you did the other files.

well i had to drive back home before i finished my phone.YES I AM GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE HELP FROM scotty85, doogald, Bob Cat. I just finish up with the phone a little while ago. THANKS FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE, I KNOW IT HAD TO GET RATHER OLD HELPING ME. YET I HAD TO BE SURE THAT I TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD WHAT I WAS SUPPOSE TO DO BEFORE I'D EVEN TRY. THANK FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL HELP.

you are quite welcome for the help. :smokingsomb: thank you for stickin with it,as my first htc android, and root/rom experience i will always have a fondness for the lil eris- it makes me smile when we can bring one back to use that may have otherwise ended up in the trash can.

just holler if you have any other questions!

Hi Scotty,

You should change your screen name to Patience85. ;)

I don't come in here much any more so I just saw this thread now. You've definitely bested me - a rescue operation from bricking to full repair that lasted for six weeks! :) Major props for your helpfulness and patience!

For the future (in case any more rescues happen?), two quick points:

- "ErisMiscReset_v0.9.zip" should follow after "ErisMTDNuke_v0.9.zip" - the OP's post #45 suggests it was possibly done out of order. (Not sure).

- when you say "Flash ErisM***_v0.9.zip", you should probably say

"Flash using the recovery boot ErisM***_v0.9.zip"

so that it is obvious that it is NOT something flashed using fastboot. You know that, and I know it - but it might not be obvious to someone new, especially because of the mix-n-match flashing (sometimes by recovery, sometimes by fastboot).

cheers

PS I too am fond of my Eris - still using it :D LOL. It's days are surely numbered though - I bought a (WiFi) Nexus 7 & played with a Galaxy Note II after the holidays... so now I am fully aware of it's limits.

.

Good to see you here again, eu1! :)

Yeah, Scotty, doogald, and Bob Cat have been doing a great job keeping vigil around these parts.

Although I still love my Eris, my offer to you still stands to send it to you if you ever want or need it.

Best wishes and hope to see more of you here at AF :).

Cheers!

Many thanks eu1,any compliments/advice from you mean a lot to me,as this forum and your and scarys advice and good examples are what originally got me involved in this comunity. Good points... I'll make mental note for the next one :D

You'll have to let us know what your next device is..I'm scary and I both will start lurking in that forum! :p make sure you check out the DNA if your stickin with vzw(tho my opinions may be biased ;))

Same goes for me eu1! Let us know what your working on next and hopefully it's the DNA as that's what I have (unless someone will donate a Note 2 to me then I can have the best of both worlds).
