Question, since were on the topic of SD cards...hopefully viperboy can see this, or any other VZW CSR...

Anyone know (and I know there's a lot of you that are doing the same as me) know if when I exchange my Droid before my 30-days is up to get the Incredible, if they will let me keep my 16gb MicoSD card? Or is that one of the things that's gonna have to go back in the box?

I still don't understand why BB would be selling a phone like this before the VZW stores would.

I'm worried that if I buy at BB my ne2 isnt eligible.

P.S testman is back up... just no adds

I felt the same way until I called in and asked both Best Buy and Verizon about it. I learned that it's pretty standard for third party stores to sell newly released phones a good week or two before Verizon launches it themselves. Verizon assured me that these third party retailers are very well versed in Verizon's policies and I believe them. Sure, you may run into a few places where they are kinda slow, but there will be lots of places that will be happy to sell these works of art.

I know this because I have a family plan on Verizon and only one of the four lines I have is available for an upgrade. Since I want to upgrade a line that isn't eligable, they have assured me that any third party retailer will easily be able to handle switching the upgrade to one of my other lines.

I'd say go in and speak to them once they have the phones. If you feel uncomfortable with them, talk to someone else... or try another store.

The only other alternative is waiting even longer... and who has the patience for that anymore???

I'd be very surprised if they let you hold onto that, myself.

Yeah, if you do a side-by-side comparison of the HTC Evo and the HTC Incredible, you will find that there are just some few differences.

1. The Evo's screen is 4.3" and the Incredible is 3.7". If you actually do a physical size comparison, you only gain about a 1/4 of an inch with the Evo's screen. However, the Evo's screen isn't AMOLED, which the Nexus One and Desire have. AMOLED is much more power efficient, has much brighter colors, is just overall capable of being brighter and the contrast ratio is MUCH higher. The Evo doesn't have this type of screen. So, that's a +1 for the Incredible.

2. The Evo is a 4G phone. 4G means "fourth generation." Sprint decided to go with WiMAX as their 4G technology of choice. However, WiMAX through Sprint is only found in 11 states, currently, and even in those states, it's limited to the few major big cities in that state. So, doesn't work everywhere, not even close. The Incredible is still 3G. Verizon is using LTE technology for it's 4G technology but won't roll it out completely until early next year. LTE is said to be the future mobile data standard, WiMAX will more than likely quickly be outdated.

3. The Evo films in HD. Probably not 30 fps (frames per second), because the phone is so small. So, that means that in all honesty, while it WILL be in high definition, the quality won't be anything like what you seen on television or on a Blu-ray disk. As far as we know, the Incredible only films in SD (standard definition) which is 720x480p. That's what we call "DVD quality." The camera on the Evo and Incredible are exactly the same. 8 megapixels with a dual LED flash. Identical.

4. The Evo has HDMI output. This means you can output video to your TV or HDMI ready monitor. I could honestly never see myself doing that, but who knows, it might get used a few times.

5. The Incredible has 8GB of onboard movinand shorage. That's fancy talk for " it has 8 gigabytes of built in memory." The Palm Pre has the same feature. The Evo, however, does not have this.

6. The Evo has a front-facing camera. The Incredible does not.

7. The Incredible supports WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. The Evo does not support "n." Which is the current fasted speeds you can get on WiFi.

I BELIEVE that's about it. So, are the phones THAT different? There's some wins and some losses on both sides. Take your pick. There's the best comparison I can think to give.

You forgot to mention that the Evo has a built in kick stand and the Incredible does not :D

Verizon vs Sprint here is my story.

I had Nextel and then service got really bad (I live in FL) lots of dropped calls or no signals, I switch to Sprint it got alot better then they bought Nextel and service turned ugly again, finally I switched to Verizon, cost me more but I can tell you I've NEVER had a dropped call on Verizon.

For anyone interested, Newegg.com is a great resource for inexpensive hardware for pretty much anything technology related. They have a decent selection of 16GB SD cards for between $30 and $35 with speeds up to class 10.

That's probably where I'll end up getting mine from.

EDIT: I should learn to be more observant. These are standard SD cards. Not micro. They are useless to the purposes of this thread. Move along. Nothing to see here....

I second Newegg.com as well as ecost.com They have a bargain countdown and if you time it right you can get some really cheap stuff.

EDIT: For Micro SD of course :D

Well, since yesterday was such a bust, I hope we get some news today.:D

Seriously though, announcement today?

I apreciate the removal of your sig when responding to my post. While that is my favorite quote from any of Adam Sandler's movies, it'd've striken a little close to home that time, I think. :p

Hey guys, just a question pertaining to the aesthetics of the phone. Do we know if the final model will have the red ring around the camera?

My prediction is that Verizon will give the green light to go ahead with ad campains for third party retailers about a week before the launch day.

So, if it's the 25th, then announcement around the 18th. If it's the 29th, then around the 22nd.

They dont seem to list the class of the cards at Newegg. they had a cheap 16gb card but i found out from customer reviews that it was a class 2 and i already have a class 4 8gb from an eris.

An announcement... today? I wouldn't hold your breath. We just got the UG and the specs confirmed yesterday and BB's release date confirmed. Thats a lot of information for one day, let alone a week. Hopefully next week?

Most of them do have the classes listed, I have found. But you're right some do not and may take a little digging, but if the price is right, I find that a little digging is more than worth it.:)

Eventually, Verizon just needs to bite the bullet and announce the phone. All of these unofficial leaks are just proving that they can't keep any secrets. :p But some might say that their reluctance to make it official has built up the hype.

I thought the User Guide didn't mention onboard memory?... Maybe I need to read more carefully...

You better believe Big Red pays attention to this forum. I used to work Cingular and we had a few guys in charge of just monitoring and creating "buzz". Considering all the buzz seams to start from this thread, I'd bet my house they are checking in here on a daily basis.

Has there been any additional information leaked regarding a possible earlier release date at VZW corporate stores? I have manager approval for an early NE2, but I can only use it if I go to a corporate store.

I almost hate to ask this for fear of opening up a can of worms...but here goes would you recommend installing the task killer app on the Incredible? I have heard both sides some say android handles running apps natively just fine others swear they get better performance and battery life with task killers.

I don't use them...but I always wanted to hear a better reason why I should or shouldn't.

You do not need them. The OS suspends any application that is inactive (offscreen/covered). It is left in ram because there is no reason to take it out until you run low on ram. Services are not suspended because they are made to run in the background (think music apps that run while you browse the web), but they will also be killed by the OS if resources are low.

In the case of a poorly written app/service there is a built in task killer you can access by going a few menu's deep in the settings somewhere.

I have seen people claim that task killers actually hurt their performance and have negative effects on OS behavior.

Now I'm just waiting on those marketing geniuses for a price...

I pretty much have everything else I needed to know on whether I was going to buy thanks to the U G and specs info that we have seen from our covert ops with devout reconnoitering skilz

'ppreciate it!!

Judging from the excitement and number of threads on this today, the Incredible must be amazing, but when you look at the EVO specs, it meets or beats everything on the Incredible, doesn't it?

imo .. the evo slightly bests the incredible. (i'm not gonna go spec to spec).
(evo on verizon? it'd be mine in a heartbeat!)

but .. even with an out of contract vzw family plan, i just am not willing to switch providers. i've traveled a lot for work, and most of the time i have coverage with vzw. i talk to friends in my area on other providers, and their coverage is always spotty. so, for me, it is the network. believe me, i am in NO way a verizon fanboy ... but their coverage is something to consider (imo). i kinda think a lot of members posting here take the verizon network into consideration as well.

If a person was contemplating switching carriers...why even wait for the HTC Inc. If VZ isnt even something they value there have been other options the past 4-6 months to go with and I'm sure life would be just fine.

But for the combo platter of VZ service and a top notch phone, ya wait.
