Root Notes from the frontlines...(my conversation with LG about the bootloader)

I just sent LG an email:

I recently noticed
that one of your
other phones, the
Optimus 4X HD will
be receiving a
software update
with an unlocked
bootloader this year.
Are you considering
giving the Motion 4g
an unlocked
bootloader as well?

And I got this response:

“We received your request on LG Open Source
Code Distribution

opensource.lge.com).

This site is just for providing source codes of
FOSS(Free and Open Source Software) we
have used in our product.”

We are waiting for the response from operator
Metro PCS.

Before we start our job, we need get operators
confirmation about that.

We hope this information will help you.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

LGE MC Company Open Source

Distribution Center

The 4X bootloader is locked just like ours but supposedly the next update from LG will have the bootloader unlocked for them.

I know, but will the locked bootloader even work on this phone?
The locked spectrum 2 bootloader will boot this phone just like the stock bootloader meaning if the spectrum 2 gets unlocked, we get unlocked.

Why try to put a locked bootloader on here? Just To see if it could be done? Perhaps for future development like when LG releases the unlocked bootloader for the 4X which is supposed to be sometime this quarter.

Hi all

So LG did not make this phone for us and we are not their customers, they made it for Metro PCS, and then Metro sold the phone to us, you bought the phone from Metro not LG. LG is not obligated to us at all.

LG probably locked the boot loader at Metro's request, and will probably only unlock it at their request.

LG made the Nexus 4 for Google, and that did not have a locked boot loader, because Google probably told them they did not want one.

Metro probably has to pay LG for any changes or updates to the firmware that were not bugs to begin with.

So maybe we need to put pressure on Metro somehow for this. We need to find a way that we will be the most irritating to them, and it will be a benefit and a relief for them to give us what we want. Maybe a petition is not enough, maybe we all need to start calling the Metro support number for it, and demand to speak to a supervisor every time. If they keep getting a lot of calls about this, eventually they will pay LG to make the new boot loader or un-locker.

Edit:

When you call Metro and they say "we did not make the phone LG did"

Tell them it says in big letters on the back of the phone METRO PCS, and I bought the Metro PCS phone from you not LG

we should schedule a time for everyone on this forum to call Metro to request an unlocked boot loader for the LG Motion

Every day, at 7:00 or something like that

flood them with calls about this issue

if we have enough people do it, we will gain results

Although i will remain optimistic we will See results by going that rout but i highly doubt Metro will care or do a damn thing. They wanted the locked bootloader just like Verizon asks for locked bootloaders my friend and i drove all around Orlando one day to get his Evo 3D flashed to Metro and everyone we talked to claimed rooting phones were illegal, naturally i laughed and pulled up an article stating that The Library of Congress has said it was not illegal, they didnt give a damn and turned my friend away from him, mostly because im sure i made them look stupid in front of other customers.

yes but if they are getting 200 calls at 7:00 each day about the same thing

they will re-consider

at least that is my opinion

Well i emailed lg about the firmware update ms77010e and this is what they said was in the update...

Dear Keith,

Thank you for contacting LG Electronics.

The change description includes

New factory reset method (power + volume down fo
r 10 seconds)
Desk Top Cradle (DTC) feature enabled
Google patch

The carrier feels that when a bootloader is not encr
ypted and users can unlock it they are more likely t
o alter the system software and damage the phone
thus unable to provide support to users that do so.

Keep in mind we manufacture the hardware to meet
the specifications of the distributor *carrier.

If you have other questions or concerns, please do
not hesitate to contact us again either via email, or
by calling our customer service division at 800-243
-0000 at your convenience.

What's their email address?

I went to the lg mobile site and messaged, them from there and the email was an outgoing address only and was sent from an lgai which i can only imagine that stands for lg artificial intelligence lol

Does anybody know Sprint or Cricket's stance on rooting, etc? Maybe we can email LG asking for bootloaders for the Mach or Regard.
