Eris to v2.x, when?

I really hope it's soon. I don't even care if it improves my phone or not. I am just sick of trying to find out "WHEN"...Although it does keep me busy on my off time. lol.

Let's hope we hear something this weekend. If not I think I'll be craving some leaks. And I don't mean the vegetable.

Im wondering something. I went with the 2nd leak and we are all assuming that the ota will work for us. Since I already have 2.1 if I get the notification I would like to wait that one out since I do not feel that I have bugs and stuff. I would like to wait and see if people are liking the ota and if it is buggy ect. If I wait will I be able to update my phone ota at any time or do I have to do it within a certain time frame from when I get the notification on my handset?

you could always just download the file later and update whenver you want.

I got in trouble again.....ug....sorry if I "offended" anyone....I was only jokin....geeze.

Haha, yeah, it's common on these boards. I've been banned from plenty of forums the past ten years, dating back to my middle school years. Forums are pretty nerdy, but telling people the kinda stuff I pull on the internet always makes people laugh. Starting with this forum.

It happens.

Anyone see the idiocy in those that have not upgraded to the 2.1 leak but still want the 2.1 AND continue to whine about it? I understand the situation leaves you in limbo, you don't want to void the warranty but you also want the latest and greatest, but not taking the leak leaves you in the middle of nowhere..nothing..like a vacuum. And you know what happens in a vacuum? Nothing. So stfu. I'm tired of reading 2.1 threads since January.

I just got off the phone with 5 different Verizon tech guys. They were all very excited and they all told me the exact same thing. It is Wendy's birthday and they are all eating cake. Just thought you guys would like to know.
Happy Birthday Wendy!!!!!!!!!!

Pulled the plug? I haven't been on since yesterday morning, did I miss something?
Yep

"Supposedly", Verizon was to have all the Moto Droid's updated by the end of the week. READ: Today or Tomorrow
Some European countries weeks end on Sunday.

ok, so what? VZW isn't doing an official 2.1 or 2.0 update for the Eris? (don't have one yet, but was looking into it for my early upgrade)

Verizon said nothing about 2.1 not coming to the Eris. Don't believe those last couple of posts. 2.1 is coming in Q2.

ok good, not a total real breaker, but still, would be nice to have updates lol

(granted, I won't be doing this to around july or so, so who knows what will be around then)

I stopped by the Verizon shop yesterday and asked about the 2.1 update. 2 of the sales people told me that the update is being sent simultaneously with the moto droid update however they are sending the update to the moto owners first and as soon as that is complete us eris owners should be getting our update. not sure how much they really know though. I will believe it when I see it. But that's the info I received.

Sounds like they've been reading in these forums.

who doesnt read these forums =p.... i think if it wasnt for these forums verizon wouldnt know anything about 2.1..

Frisco, I was really hoping your VZW Rep Scott was right about this weekend. Sucks.

I interpreted his remarks about when the OTA was to come to mean that we'd likely hear about some users getting it well before the end of this month (I've given up on date predictions ;)).

I have no idea when it will come, beyond that. I liked his, "in a matter of days, not weeks," but that was not all that influenced my interpretation of a likely time frame. We talked about it for quite a while, and I posted four significant highlights of the conversation.

Other things causing me to think of it as this month were the many references to "finishing up the Droid update, which is a moving target as we sell the non-upgraded Droids in the stores which will need to receive it," and "deployment of new servers for the Eris OTA, which will probably overlap the Droid OTA," as well as the longer portion of the conversation having to do with the size of the Eris update and just what is in it.

Yea, I have the feeling this month might be the month when they pull the trigger. I can't help thinking they are going to wait for either the Nexus or the Incredible to come out first.

As always, just a waiting game. My 1.5 works fine, I think most of the excitement is all just hype. But I am just as excited as everyone else to get the OTA.

I'm not so sure they have a strategy for sending out the Eris OTA during a specific time frame relative to other, newer device sales.

They could be doing that, but my strongest feeling about this whole thing is that the planned update kept growing as it was being developed. I've seen this happen with RF transmitter upgrades; upgrades in function getting interrupted by slight changes in functional protocol as the development process moves along.

When it's completed, which is usually way down the calendar from the projected time, there are many more devices to service, not to mention the difficulties in deploying more than one OTA because of different models with similar software (the Droid and Eris and others in our case).

I understand it must be a huge process. If the OTA is as big as the leak (103mb), that is a tremendous strain to their servers to send that out via mobile handsets. As people have stated earlier, they really should do it as an online download and then transfer USB. The problem is probably 75% of owners would need customer service to do this.....can you say busy signal!

Just got off the phone with my VZN store by my house. I asked when the Eris will be getting the update, if its anytime soon. She says"

"The update for the HTC Droid Eris has already been released, its just not being released through Verizon, its being released through HTC. The update will be OTA in waves of 50'000 over the next few weeks. So it would be a random release for each individual person, meaning you can receive it in two days all the way till next month."

Thats what I like to hear.

Those remarks have a sort of "segue quality" about them when compared to what Scott was imparting to me several days ago; there is a bit of credibility embedded there that seems to emanate from a real information source back at some point.

If you ponder that stuff for a little while, you may come to the same feeling that I came to, having to do with why we have not seen/heard an official announcement of the coming OTA's actual date-range.
