just drove by the local corporate verizon store in Levittown NY (long island) and about 15-20 employees were standing around the main desk watching some big head demo a phone behind the desk. all the lights were off inside, except for the lights over the desk, so it was a meeting about something big dropping....

Good evening everyone! Been doing my taxes (yuck) all day so now I have close to 10 pages to catch up on... Hope everyone is having an incredible day :)

I know I will feel incredible when I finish my taxes, my unexpected refund arrives, and I don't get audited!

Did you stop? Peer through the window? Take a photo with a reach out and touch'em kind of lens?:D C'mon. How could you tell it was a phone demo while driving by? Not trying to give you a hard time.:)

does anybody need a google wave invite? I have no idea what i am doing lol. i just signed up for everything google. I think alls i need is an email address to send them out. if you intrested pm me ok if not don't lol

Hello, forgive me if this has already been asked/commented upon:

But with all the info about Google Voice I've read here today, I decided to go ahead and get ready (didn't want to wait, so I bought the invite from Ebay for $3.09)

Now I already noticed right away in using Google Voice there is no more "voicemail notification" on your phone screen like you would normally get. Instead you receive a text and you actually have to (speed)dial your new Google Voice number later in order to actually hear the message (it will also play back on your gmail through your computer). I would have liked to have some voicemail notification, though and hopefully Google will add that as a feature as time goes on.

A couple things:

I've noticed the transcription hasn't been correct yet, and I've been leaving pretty straightforward test messages. So you really are going to need to hear the message after reading the text, because thus far you can't really trust the transcriptions, unless I'm doing something wrong?

I figured on canceling the Verizon text package and just receiving the texts as emails, as everyone else has pointed out, and you'll save $10/month, and was wondering what the difference would be (pros and cons) between reading them straight from pushed Gmail or using and Android App instead?

Thanks!!!

You know, to be honest, I've never needed the VM message waiting indicator so it wasn't something I've given a lot of thought to. You can set it up so that you simply speed dial from *your* phone(s) and you don't have to put in any pin #'s etc for extra speed. You'll still have to use your pin if dialing in from another number. I'm on my email so much that I end up knowing really quickly if I get a phone call and I get an SMS on my dumbphone. You can enable playing messages directly in gmail under the labs feature and if you play a message in gmail it automatically changes the status in GV (as listened to).

I love the transcriptions feature. No, it's DEFINITELY not perfect but it's rare that I can't get the gist of the message and decide if I need to check it immediately or if it can wait until later. If you know this and sort of read it phonetically you'll get onto the GV transcription language soon...LOL. :) When you're in the GV interface online, you can also mark whether or not the transcription was helpful which helps them improve the technology.

I've not used the GV app (the Inc will be my first smartphone :) ) so I can't really say either way in terms of which one will be the better way to go. You can try either/both when you get your phone and see which one you prefer. I suppose that if would also depend on if you want a record of your texts in your email. Either way, GV links text messages into conversations just like gmail does (whether you go via the web interface, email, or their Google Chome extension so I'd imagine the GV app would do the same) and it's much easier to keep track of everything.

I hope that helps somewhat. Have fun getting it all setup and ready for your new phone!

Did you eat at the Macaroni Grill?:D

no... took him to the local mall food court and had sushi there, then frozen yogurt. :)

I'm full...to the brim... but I didn't eat much today and worked out like a fiend, so I should be ok. :)

The store is right on a corner of a major stop light, all the outside lights were off but its all glass windows around the front, girlfriend was driving and I asked her to pull over but she looked at me like I was crazy when I asked to take a picture of a VZW store....something was getting unleashed on this incredible saturday night....back home now and the bottle of whiskey is calling my name!

No need to send GV SMS to email now. The newest android app does push notification. Now if you wanted to keep it all in GMail that's one thing, but you don't need to anymore .

I use Chrome and there is a google voice extension that lets you send and reply to SMS from the extension, as well as make calls.

I love the GV Chrome extension, use it all the time. Great interface and easy to reply to SMS, etc. I've not had a smartphone yet so never tried the GV app and all that it can do but realized from other comments that avoiding the email would be possible. So, thanks for confirming. :)

Glad to hear you are working out and taking care of yourself. We don't want you to expire before the Incredible is launched.:D:):p

Hey all,

I already have a Blackberry Storm. If I buy the Incredible on the Verizon site when it's available, do they automatically switch my phone number over to the new phone? There's four phones in my family. I suppose that they know that I'm buying the NE2 and replacing my Blackberry. How does that work?

Yes, you will indicate which line it is for when you purchase the phone.

The only problem that I have using only my GV number now without access to a GV app is telling everyone that I changed my number and giving them my new GV number. Now if I make a call from my cell it still shows my "old" cell number in caller ID not my new GV number that I made everyone change in their contacts.

Anyone have a fix for this without using a GV app?

Similar situation at my Verizon Wireless at my mall. When I got out of work today at around 5, there were probably 15 or so employees there today when there's usually 4 or so. I was wondering what the heck was going on.

Delivering all the MS Pink phones.:D:rolleyes::(

Hello!

I've been reading this forum and thread for the past couple weeks. I've never owned a smartphone, and decided to take the jump with Android. I started doing research, and was set on the Nexus One. I've grown to really appreciate HTC phones specifically, and when I started learning more about the Incredible, I got hooked on it. I will certainly be getting this phone as soon as it's available.

I hated the way it looked when I saw the first shots of the test device with the orange/red plastic back, but I've really grown to appreciate everything about the physical design of the phone now, especially with the soft touch thinner black back. I can't wait for this phone!

Utlimately, I think it's the Sense UI that won me over (vs. default Home on the Nexus One or Motorola Droid). I got to play with my friend's Eris at work, and I love the way Sense works and looks.

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi, haha.

Oh, and huge thanks to all the members of this thread, discovering all the information and providing all the discussion about the phone!

Ok so, I singed up for everything I can think of Google wise I had Gmail now I have Google wave, I singed up for Google voice (waiting for a response). I even set my retirement date on Google calendar. Am I missing anything other then a life?
