Root Need an Evo V user to help test something

Hey guys,

Been wanting to verify that this will work for Evo V. I tested it for the Sprint Evo 3d and all went well. I need someone willing to dump mmcblk0p3 per the instructions in the first post of this thread:
http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3...ng-someone-adb-experience-unlocked-hboot.html

There is no risk, someone just has to be willing to take 5 or 10 minutes to do it and upload to Dropbox or something so that I can check it and make sure it will work with Evo V. S-on/off does not matter for this but you need to have an unlocked bootloader for me to be able to check the memory block when you're finished.

If it works then you will be able to use flashable zips to lock and unlock the bootloader whenever you want (s-off required; though most of you are) which you can read about in this thread:
http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3d-all-things-root/662615-how-change-your-lock-status-flag.html

There is no risk in doing this. The risk would be flashing the zip to see if it works without looking at mmcblk0p3 first. So anyway, someone please do this so we can finally find out if it will work with the Vvo :p

PM'd you a link to it.

Edit: I mean now I pm'd you a link to it. Oops.

Hey is your bootloader locked? If the evo v is the same as the evo 3d then it's looking like you are locked right now.

If you are unlocked, then it may be in a different spot for the evo v, which means it won't work. Unless new zips can possibly be made specifically for the evo v.

If you are locked, can you unlock and dump mmcblk0p3 again for me?

I'm unlocked, S-Off, hboot 1.04, radio 1.09 etc etc.

Haha, I can't see the bootloader status on the fastboot menu :p
You have to go to bootloader!

Anyway, I believe you, but sometimes it gets overlooked. When you go s-off it locks the bootloader again. So unless you actually unlock it again after doing s-off, it's locked.

I'm really hoping that you just didn't realize it's locked again, because I want this to work! :D

It's the same for the rezound as it was for the evo 3d, so I figured the the evo v would be the same as well....

Oh, I wasn't aware. Hold on then, sorry. Your hope was realized, I think.

I'm not 100% sure. How should I know if I'm unlocked?

How are you getting into the bootloader? Are you using command prompt and typing adb reboot bootloader?

If so, that actually puts you in fastboot. If you are on the screen that says FASTBOOTin red letters then if you look toward the bottom you can see the word bootloader. Use the power button to select bootloader. Use the volume keys to navigate to the word bootloader if it isn't the one highlighted.

The other way to get into the bootloader is to do a battery pull, then hold volume down+power.

This will take you directly to the bootloader screen (rather than fastboot) and you don't have to use the pc to do it.

At the top of the bootloader screen you will see ***LOCKED*** most likely. Otherwise it will read ***UNLOCKED*** or ***RELOCKED***

If you flashed the custom hboot when going s-off it will say Juopunut Bear.

I think the only way to see the locked/unlocked/relocked status of the bootloader is to flash a stock hboot that won't mask it on the top line of the screen or run the query version of the utility zip.

I thought about running the query zip but wasn't sure if it would be safe or not. I hate to have someone flash something that I'm unsure of.

The query zip wouldn't (i don't think) alter anything but I just wanted to play it safe.

Bah. I had forgotten about that but you're right, we should be using a stock hboot!

I'm 99% sure that it's locked just from checking the hex values of the memory block. These zips are probably safe to use, but on the off chance that it won't work for the evo v, it's better to be safe since we have the option of checking before flashing.

I don't see any of that, so I assume that ramjet73 is right + I am unable to get the device identifier token or flash the unlock code. Sorry, but I'm not going to S-On again and install the stock hboot just to do this. :(

You don't have to go s-on to change your hboot. You can flash a new hboot the same way that you flash a radio. A PG86IMG.zip

You can find all the stock hboots (including evo v 1.57) here:
http://androidforums.com/cdma-evo-3...hboot-firmware-all-downloads.html#post5210029

How come you can't flash the unlock token?? You can use the same token you already have from the first time.

I vote ramjet for EVO V supporter of the year

Edit: pointless comment, but it is what it is, and hes been one of the most helpful ive seen on all 3 forums ;)

Hmm... I wonder if that has something to do with not being on a signed hboot? Ramjet can probably tell us what's going on there.
Yea, I think that's a function of having the ENG 1.04 hboot installed. You should really be on stock everything when trying to flash the unlock token, and there's no need to unlock to flash the stock hboot.

I think it would be safe to determine his current bootloader status with the query zip if he doesn't want to flash the stock hboot, and I'm pretty sure the lock/unlock zips will be safe as well since the Evo V is so close to the Evo 3D.

Indeed that was why. Flashed the stock hboot, unlocking...

Nice!!! Thanks for doing all of this! It will help a lot of people :)

If all is in order, you will be able to lock and unlock with a simple flash through recovery. Especially helpful if you're still under warranty!

I'm glad you guys got this accomplished. But as far as warranty . I have sent back 3 phones. All of them had S-OFF. They don't even check

They are more strict about that in the Sprint stores and you never know when VM might change their policy. VM is a subsidiary of Sprint and might be forced to do that if the return rate gets too high.
