Root I Gave Up - On Giving Up!

I've gotten to the point that I'm getting ready to throw both my phones out of the window. I have an evo 4g lte, HBOOT 1.15 that I bought on the 1st day it was available. I rooted it and now am at the point that I can't get past the bootloader. I keep trying the RUU's that I can find and they all either stop early or tell me that the phone is below 30 percent, which it's not.

I got so fed up that i went out a couple of weeks ago and bought another phone. I didn't learn my lesson and I've got the 2nd one screwed up too. I rooted it and and can flash ROM's. when it starts up it looks fine but the touch screen isn't working on any of them. I can't get past the lock screen because I cant swipe up. The hardkeys work fine.

Is there anyone who knows how to get one of the phones back to the way it was when I brought it home from the store. I just want to give up rooting and flashing. I'm am proof that a little knowledge is dangerous.

see if i can get you started on getting some help. you say you are rooted? how did you go about doing that?

Do you have the latest TWRP recovery?

edit: I can relate to your frustration, but with the help of the folk in here, most likely your phones will be fine and you will get an education and be good to go to happily flash like the rest of us. Just don't do it in public! :)

Is the phone still S-on?

What hboot and baseband# are you on?

Do the power and volume down button combo to get to hboot and post that up. We'll see if we can get things rolling.

Also, the last phone was never recovered?

Both phones are S-on. Phone 1 is HBOOT 1.15
2nd is 2.09

OK, what is the baseband # on the 2nd one (baseband is the radio #).

I need to check and see if you're updated the the latest OTA.

Also, you're flashing the kernel via fastboot before trying to boot up correct?

got one that is stuck on bootloader and one that won't respond to the screen?

do you still have the PJ75IMG.zip on the one stuck in the bootloader?

Let me check on something real quick. Not up on the versions and haven't messed with S on.

I Put out a call to Ocn, see if he shows up. Granite is feeling poorly and is time for me to cut out too.

hang in there, bro! brb

ok, on second one, apparently you have taken the ota, you need a sense rom based upon it or the touchscreen won't work.

you need to have at least twrp 2.4.1.0 for your recovery to respond to it as well.

does your recovery work, if not, upgrade it as you installed it to the latest version.

if it does work, flash a rom like the latest meanBean or viper and your screen will work with them.

OK?

my recovery works. I'll go try and flash one of those ROM's brb.

what rom are you on? what roms have you tried? remember that you are s-on and that means you might have to fastboot flash the boot.img(where the kernel is). the kernel does not get flashed unless the rom has the kernel installer cooked in.

just remember that as long as you have recovery all is well....nothing is bricked.

if i remember correctly, MeanBean has some sort of built in work around for the s on folk.

I don't keep track of this cause I was lucky to get s off fairly quickly.

You still can! you get this fixed and get little confidence back, that is the only way to be. S off ftw!

Since i started this I've been able to get Pokemon rom working on the 1st phone. I'm gonna leave that alone for now. I have a weird problem with the fastboot thing. My cmd doesn't work all the time. I keep getting an error message or I get a green bar on the fastboot screen that doesn't go all the way up. I pull the usb cable to reset the screen and do it again. sometimes it takes over a dozen attempts and then it flashes the boot.img. sometimes it does it right away. I have no idea what makes it do that. I'm thing it's my pc.

I was trying to get s-off one the newer (2nd) phone with facepalm when my problems started. It seems there's a difference with superuser and SuperSU. I guess facepalm doesn't work with supersU.

So many different ways anymore. was reading a little how folk had trouble with that one.

glad you got the first one running too! :)

i tried babyracun. Can't remember what went wrong with that but it didn't work. I think you needed to have a custom rom flashed but i was rooted and still stock rom. I'm flashing Viper right now. i've got to go to bed after that but will try babyracun again tomorrow, i think. I'll be glad just to get my phone working again.

nope as ong as you have su you should be fine with baby racun.

not sure if you read my guide, but there is a nice break down in the guide.....check it out:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...g-dummies-guide-racun-babyracun-unlocked.html

Hope Viper works for you. It is a sweet Rom

Looking at it's OP, I don't see if it has the built in kernel installer per xHausx, as in the MeanBean Rom

" Haus's s-on kernel installer. Mega thanks to Haus for this: flash kernels via TWRP with no extra steps while s-on!"

Hope it does, save you some trouble. My bed time too. I'll read about you tomorrow. Good Luck!

yeah i believe viper does have the kernel installer cooked in as well.i think it was in earlier changelogs but not in the recent ones.

OMG! I've got the 2nd phone back. Viper loaded!. I'm getting an error message about a data connection failure every 10 secs. or so. I've got to hit the sack. Thanks to all for the help. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon with an update.

ok so let me clear some things:

up first of all. with s-on ruu's will not work unless you re-lock the bootloader.....not sure if you were doing that or not. if you had s-off then there is no issues with ruu's.

second with the latest ota software version #3.16, the touch panel was updated. however this threw a lot of things off wack. for one twrp 2.4.0's touch screen did not work with the latest ota. however, they did update it so that it will work but you need twrp 2.4.1. there is a new twrp 2.4.2 but i would wait a bit, i believe that there is still some bugs to work out still with it. now with this latest ota if you are s-on then you can only flash JB sense roms. you can't flash any aosp roms as of yet.......now if you are s-off then that is not an issue.

and lastly please do not give up like your title and op suggests. we are here to help you. just remember that as long as you have recovery then all is not lost. if you have any issues, please feel free to ask it here. we are more then willing to set you straight.

got one that is stuck on bootloader and one that won't respond to the screen?

do you still have the PJ75IMG.zip on the one stuck in the bootloader?

with s-on any PJ75IMG file will not work unless they are signed by HTC. yet another draw back for s-on folks.

ok we will be here if you need us....please keep us posted.....and good luck:)

I was aware of the need to relock the bootloader before running an RUU. I just don't know if I was running the wrong ones or whatever.

I've now got both phones working. Phone #1 has Pokemon flashed but when I rebooted the phone It wouldn't load the 2nd time. I think I have to flash the boot.img again but can't do that until I get home this afternoon.
Phone #2 is running with Viper. I really like the ROM. The Code 67 message has calmed down but I'm having issues with the proximity sensor. A minor problem compared with what I had yesterday.
Thanks to all of you who gave advice. I really was ready to pack in my rooting/Rom skills until you got me back on the right track.
I still would like to unroot the 1st phone and put it back to stock but everything I've tried hasn't worked. I guess I'll just keep it as a backup.
It'll probably be a couple of days before I get the courage to try getting s-off on the 2nd phone.
