Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

That is pretty interesting, I did not know that Atmel provided the touch-screens for Apple as well. I tend to agree, despite what you may think of Apple, their products are always praised highly for their smooth touch-screen responsiveness.

I hope this means the EVO will have a touch-screen better than most other smartphones out there and close to what Apple offers.

I think that a lot of Apple's responsiveness is due to proper GPU acceleration...something so far unmatched on Android and WebOS to my knowledge. I remember when I got my Pre reading that it had the same processor as the 3GS but the responsiveness is nowhere near as smooth, even overclocked (which helps a little).

The Ulta/ Scorpion has two designs right now. One is iPad like and will be a 4g, 12" device. Hwoever seeing that the most money comes from developing phone, and that it is going to be the successor of the Evo, there is also a 4.5" model in the works.

Like i said it will not be releaesed until next year along with the moto shadow, but hey never hurts to look ahead!

GO EVOOOO!!!

Jackson

Sounds like perfect timing to me. EVO for 1 year. Scorpion to follow! I'm just excited to get my first Android phone and hope that the OS really takes off with the EVO's help.

Thanks again for the updates, Jackson!

Sprint will have its own exclusive Motorola device, which surpasses the Droid in every way. Other carriers are in discussion with carrying this said Motorola Shadow device, as other manufacturers want to go the "Google" route, and have numerous carriers carry the device. This is the case with the Samsung Galaxy S and ZTE.

I can't wait to see what the "Shadow" will look like. I saw "mock" pictures of what people think it'll look like, but considering I really liked the form factor of the Droid, if the Shadow surpases that device, it might be difficult for me to stick with the EVO...hahahaha.

Thanks for the 411, Self Praise!

3) Would anyone else love the for the Evo commercial to be two Stormtroopers looking at a Mytouch, an Eris, and a Droid when we see/hear Obi Wan: "These aren't the Droids you're looking for." The Stormtroopers repeat: "These aren't the Droids we're looking for." Followed by Obi Wan giving them an Evo.

Awesome concept! Even if I hadn't heard about the EVO, I'd look it up after seeing a commercial like that.

LOL...I just don't know if Sprint wants to spend that much money on one commercial. Name and Likeness from Lucasfilm alone would be astronomical (especially, if it's for the purposes of selling another product).

That said, I actually could see a partnered marketing campaign, if there was a Star Wars project/product coming up for Lucasfilm.

Really enjoying the discussion - Carry On!

While it does not have the EVO in it... http://i.imgur.com/aGvpx.png

Wow, you're up early (or really late) Jackson! I thought I was the only one still up (3:30AM Western)... Typing a paper...

He can't sleep due to EVO excitement.

I think it would make for an incredibly effective commercial, however I don't think it would ever happen. The word Droid is a registered trademark of Lucasfilm and is used under license by Verizon for the Droid. I doubt that Lucasfilm would also license Sprint to use the term for their advertising too.

shappy, I didn't see your post before I responded. My initial thought was that Sprint just wouldn't invest as much money for name and likeness for the Star Wars dialogue and character adaptation, but thanks for posting this info.

I didn't know that the word "droid" was a Lucasfilm trademark. Wow, Verizon must have spent a GRIP of money on that.

If those Incredible specs are legit this time around then it really looks like gelded EVO. What I want to know is why does everyone think the Incredible is coming out on the 29th? No one's heard a peep from Verizon. Just a few leaks here and there. It's really not like Verizon to release a phone without any kind of pageantry to go along with it.

Best Buy documents leaked out that have a 4/29 release.

Where are they?

I'm sorry! I misread the original Post -- I though the EVO was leaked for a 4/29 release. My bad.

There was a little hearsay that since the Evo has shown up in Inventory systems, that they might push it out to battle with VZW launch, but I wouldn't count on it.

Hopefully we'll know more when the advertising starts i.e. pricing and launch dates.

Many of us stumbed over here from that thread in the Sprint community forums. Find it amusing that it was closed for reported abuse. Great thread here guys, been lurking for weeks, and I hover awaiting each new post.

Here's to hoping the April 29 release rumor is true!

One thing I don't see a lot of discussion about is how is the actual phone performance, i.e. how does the phone sound? How well does the mic work? Is the speakerphone usable? I would imagine this would compare similarly to HD2? Anybody know?

When the demonstration phones are sent out to the news media, we'll learn more. Nobody that I know of has actually had one in their hand.

Didn't somebody mention in this thread that Dan Hesse had his at a conference he spoke at?...LOL...I know that doesn't count, but just had to point it out...hehe.

Could the big news from Sprint on Friday not be about the Evo but instead that it took them 5 days to get their new website up and functioning?

I'm j/k, can't wait for some good Evo news this Friday!!!

He did, and he fondled it the whole time he was talking. That was at the CTIA conference three weeks ago.

It's not so much news on Friday. It's supposed to be the beginning of a media blitz put out by Sprint about the EVO 4G and WiMAX, I imagine. Some are saying we should also learn about pricing and release date then too.
