Root I Gave Up - On Giving Up!

+1 on S off, simplifies things tremendously for me. i am now just a simple fellow!

One suggestion I would make is to get onto wifi and update the PRL and Profile on that phone on Viper. That might make a difference for you on that error message.

Glad you got it basically straightened out! Between the guys in here, you will get the help you need to get the phones where you want them, if it is at all possible!

Why not try getting the unused phone to s-off? You cant make it any worse at this point and if you succeed, you'll be the much further ahead.

Glad to see you're back up and running.

yeah i believe viper does have the kernel installer cooked in as well.i think it was in earlier changelogs but not in the recent ones.

Guarantee that Viper4G has the s-on kernel installer.

It's not 100% reliable by nature, so sometimes people still have to fastboot flash the boot.img, regardless of rom.

For Pandas, Racuns, and facepalms a stock rom with a stock build.prop is required, hence the advice on various roms. Some people believe in magic. ;)

For facepalm, you need root access to echo a value through a dd write, any su should do.

I've seen at least three people with screwed up SuperSU installations, all in the same way, and no idea how that was accomplished. I'd submit that it's being screwed up is the problem, not SuperSU per se.

Always verify the MD5 sum on the phone before flashing.

2 cents, keep the change. :)

what does "verify the MD5 sum" mean?

Here's an update. I've got the 1st (older) phone up, running with Viper and s-off. The 2nd phone I have up and running Viper but neither facepalm or dirtyracun worked. With facepalm I couldn't get the CID to stick and with dirtyracun I couldn't get the update to run properly. I think a lot has to do with my computer. I'm gonna try again with another computer.

I havent seen the facepalm work for anyone on this forum yet. :(

Can you expand on where the racun process failed?

If I remember right(from the top of my head, general procedure), it was:

1)Unlock bootloader
1a)(install babyracun if on the newest ota)
2)Lock bootloader
3)Run RUU
4)Unlock bootloader
5)Run dirtyracun
6)S-OFF achieved or brick achieved
7)Unbrick if applicable
8)Re-run dirtyracun
9)Repeat steps 7&8 until s-off achieved

It keeps failing during the RUU.

Are you following along here:
Unlimited.IO

"If you get the following after you run RUU: "FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)" then you need to rerun the fastboot flash zip RUU.zip command again. Press the up arrow and enter."

You just re-enter the command and run it again.

This is why I think it's my computer and not the phone. Most of the time the RUU seems like it starts but the screen doesn't leave the sending... screen for many minutes. I disconnect the USB cable, plug it in again and retry the command. I have that happen with most commands I give the phone. Eventually it seems to take. the RUU loads and I get the "FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)" message. I try it again and when it eventually takes the message comes back. Has anyone ever heard of this problem? If there some diagnostics I can do on the computer?

It's normal for it to take a very long time to send. You are sending huge amounts of data over.

I would continue trying 3-5 times if youre getting that preupdate message.

OK guys and gals, here's my next plea for help. I've got phone #1 s-off. I want to run the stock RUU (for reasons I'd rather not explain :)) I'can't seem to find the correct RUU. I've downloaded about 5 different ones but they all give an error saying it the wrong version.

Here is what the fastboot page says

Jewel pvt ship s-off RL
CID - 222222222
HBOOT 1.15.0000
RADIO 1.05.11.0606
OPEN DSP-V25.1.0.32.0405
eMMC-boot

Can anyone lead me to the correct version?

You can flash them through the bootloader and it'll go through. I'll see if I can find the link I used

When you say "through the bootloader" do you mean that I just run the RUU like normal but have the bootloader screen on instead of the regular screen?

No It will be a PJ75IMG.zip file that you will put on the sd card and then boot into the bootloader. It will find the file and ask if you want to upgrade. Select yes and it will do its thing. But I dont know where the zip RUU s can be found. Im shure Rxpert will post them up soon.

I'VE DONE IT!! After feeling like throwing both of these phones out of the window and due to your help I'm s-off on both phones and flashing ROM's like crazy. Thanks to all of you for the help.
NICE!!!!!

i'm glad that you did not give up as the title of your thread suggested.....LOL
