Root HTC EVO Design 4G - All Carriers - Root guide

I just flashed back to heavenly Devine rebirth. And my proximity sensor works just fine. I guess it was just a glitch

I have followed the steps and direction to the best of my ability. I downloaded everything but I get getting suck on step 5 on the HTCDev page. I found my the SDK Manager but when I click it it says:

Failed to execute tools\android.bat:,error 2
The system cannot find the file specified.

C:\Documents and Settings\l014863\My Documents\Downloads\adt-bundle-windows-x86\adt-bundle-windows-x86\sdk\tools\lib is where I had to go to get to my SDK Manager.

I have a Evo Design 4g on boost running 4.0.3 and Im using my computer at working running XP.
I have this exact situation and cant see where the problem was. Can anyone lead me to what the problem was. I just got this phone and its in the same condition it was bought but I wanna root and flash cwm. Thanks in advance

Hello, a lot of support for the Design has fizzled out... I just recently got a new phone due to memory leaks in the custom rom... Overall I really do like the phone...

The issue your having is due to adb... adb is very picky about its file path having spaces in it, also doesn't like long paths... I recommend un installing the android sdk, and reinstalling it to the root of your hard drive (C: D: etc) then try again... Let me know how it goes... :)

If you're doing the same thing as Hpnotiqboi, or just getting the same error, then you're trying to run the incorrect file.

There are, at least, two files with the name "SDK Manager.exe," the one inside "tools\lib" is not the correct one to run. There should be one in the "sdk" folder which contains the "tools" folder, running that one should work.

i.e. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\SDK Manager.exe" instead of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools\lib\SDK Manager.exe"
The one in "lib" won't run because it's trying to load "android.bat" from the "tools" folder; however, you're in the "lib" folder inside of "tools" and it isn't programmed to look in previous directories for the file.
(Which is why the error says it can't find the file.)

This has nothing to do with ADB or long paths.

I stand corrected... :) I was thinking sdk was installed to the path indicated... Yes you want the sdk manager that is in your installed location, whether its program files or root of HDD...

How do I install the software? All I did was extract it to the same location sinne it was a zip file. Which one do I click on to start the install? Thats where my problem was I think. Im needing to unlock the bootloader

Alright, let's try again... I messaged on here a while back asking if anyone had an idea why I have a system update that keeps failing after root. It will do it's normal shut off and come back thing, but after trying for a little bit, it shows the phone with a yellow "!" showing a problem. I then have to take out the battery and restart it. It goes away for a bit, but keeps coming back even though I turned off the constant searching for an update... It's not major, it's just taking up status bar room.

If the phone is rooted and/or using a custom rom, the system update will fail... If you're using the kingdom fuzion rom, htc released an update since kingdom was last modified...

In order to do the OTA update, you need a stock rom/full bloatware/stock recovery.
There is no other way that I know of.

There has been an issue with some people and the SDK Manager. Download the latest version of the ADT bundle from Google. Right click on the SDKManager.exe and run troubleshooting mode using Windows XP version 2 for compatibilty.

Thanks a ton for this thread. I went through so many different guides before finding yours.

I have successfully rooted my Boost phone because of this.

A few issues I had and eventually overcame, over the past few days (not sure if some of this is redundant to your guide, since I had gotten past unlocking my phone before I came across this thread):

1. Unlocking phone. Couldn't get the PC to properly recognize the phone when in recovery-mode; running the fastboot stuff in the cmd prompt per HTC Dev, etc; not until I updated the driver manually (in Windows 7); and basically forcing it to use My HTC driver. (Properties, Update Driver, Browse my computer for driver software, Let me pick...)

2a. Your link to the PH44IMG.zip is bad, or it says it's blocked due to too much traffic. I would highly recommend putting it up on a torrent. 2b. Anyway, I was able to find a suitable PH44IMG.zip file elsewhere, after going through a few (can't link yet, as I'm too new. Thread title here on the forums where I was able to download the file is [ROOT] Stock Rooted Rom. No CWM required...).2c. I just had to modernize the android-info.txt file, as it would give me 'too old' errors during hboot. Simply changed line 3 to mainver: 1.26.573.7, and rezipped. Anyway, yeah, after a slight update to the text file, the file found in that thread actually rooted my phone!

This doesn't scratch the surface of just how much hair-pulling I actually went through since Friday, but should help serve as an extra tip.

Again, thank you! I verified that I'm actually rooted now through Root Checker. This is my first root ever. I've had the phone a couple years now (also my first smart phone).

ok i load in to hboot mode and i get
loading [PH44IMG.zip]
no image!
loading [PH44IMG.nbh]
no image or wrong image!
then loading [PH44IMG.zip]
and then when thats done it takes me back to the hboot screen i can now select fastboot
recovery
factory reset
simlock

Usually when it doesn't prompt you to update or not, it will have some additional text telling you why like 'Version too old' or something (the version number in the text file, which can easily be changed). The pink text at the top says UNLOCKED, right?

Sounds like youre bootloader is still locked to me. I just unlocked mine and rooted last week. Check out the htc dev website and unlock your bootloader. Then you should have no problem. If not then hit us back up on here and well see if someone can help you.

This may sound like a dumb question, but I gotta ask... Did you put the PH44IMG.zip file in the root of the sdcard and spelled correctly before you booted into the bootloader...?

well i just looked and in pink it does say unloaded and after i unloocked it the phone was reset back to the way i got it and yes the file name is PH44IMG.zip
