Root HTC EVO Design 4G - All Carriers - Root guide

Does anyone have a link to the PH44IMG.zip file? I don't want to install a custom recovery or a ROM or anything like that -- not yet, anyway. I just want root access so I can use all my root apps to clean up the phone a bit (it's brand new). Thanks!!!

Never mind. I searched for it on Google and found it. Or at least I found what appears to be the proper file. If my phone explodes I'll let you guys know. lol.

Well, it didn't work, for some reason. But I found Apache Thunder's thread on here and I'm downloading the files now. I'm guessing they'll work.

I have finished step 4 of HTCdev's unlocking instructions, but my computer doesn't appear to recognize my phone. It shows up in device manager as "Unknown Device" and an error message pops up saying "USB Device Not Recognized" every time I plug it in. HTC Sync doesn't even recognize it. When I try to execute the command in step 8 (fastboot oem get_identifier_token), I see "Waiting for Device" and it never gives me an identifier token.

I have enabled debugging mode and I tried both "HTC Sync" and "Disk Drive" in the Connect to PC settings.

Help?

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Android 4.0.3

In my experience that problem is usually caused by a defective USB cable, and sometimes a defective USB port on the computer. (Of course bad drivers and various other things can also cause this type of problem but I mostly run across it being the cable.) Try other USB ports on the computer and maybe another computer, if that doesn't help try to obtain another USB cable; preferably one that is known to work with transferring data.

Apparently my Evo Design 4G isn't fully compatible with T-Mobile's network, so maybe all this work is pointless. But I ordered a new cable anyway. We'll see if it makes a difference. I'll be back in a couple of days with an update. Thanks for the suggestion.

For some background: I was a Sprint customer for years, until I heard about T-Mobile's $30/month unlimited data/text + 100 minutes plan. (I was essentially paying $55/month for the same thing, except I got no 4G and I was getting hundreds of extra minutes that I would never use.) I contacted T-Mobile's customer support and asked if I could use my Sprint phone or if I would need to buy a new one. They looked up the serial number and told me that the phone was already unlocked and there would be no problem. So I cancelled my Sprint account and transferred my number, only to find out that my phone was actually still locked by Sprint. So until I either go back to Sprint, unlock my Evo, or buy a legit T-Mobile phone, I'm stuck with no service at all. I went to the T-Mobile store today and asked for a free phone to replace the one that I bricked by following their customer service rep's advice. They basically told me to pound salt. In fact, they said that my phone wouldn't work on their 4G network even if I could unlock it. That's what I mean by pointless.

Sweet. Thanks a lot. I just got this phone like less than a day ago. I had the lg marquee I love this evo. I just wish there were more rooms and kernels I could test

I just tried to get the cwm from 2fast and it says the site is suspended. Anyone have the cwm image so I can finish the root? (Sprint Evo Design 4g)

Update: I got a new cord. After plugging and unplugging several times, I finally got it to work. My phone is unlocked now, but I still have no service. Whenever I try to make a call, I hear "Your account cannot be validated."

Before I closed my account with Sprint, T-Mobile looked up my phone's serial number and told me that my phone was already unlocked and compatible with their network. After I transferred my number, they said I would have full access to their network, including 4G, 24 hours after activating my SIM card. Finally, after realizing that my phone was actually still locked, they said I would have talk and text with slow sub-4G Internet speeds after I unlocked it. All of that has turned out to be false. I'm seriously at a loss now. I guess I'll drag myself to Sprint and hope they take me back. This whole unlocking business has been a complete waste of time. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
