Root Notes from the frontlines...(my conversation with LG about the bootloader)

Well... lets hope they do something for the Motion. I think we should spam their fb page, and email. ;)

Petition? :D

We should totally do that o: Lets get a big facebook page to support us and help us "kindly" attack their facebook page.

@TheDemon, merged your thread with this one. :)
Thanks sammyz <3
I wonder why I couldn't find this lol.

That is just as bad as people complaining they'll cancel their phone service just because they didn't get jellybean for their galaxy s3.

You probably won't get anywhere trying a public movement on LG/Metropcs Facebook, they'll just remove the posts..

Instead, I've started reviewing the device at every online retailer I can find, giving low reviews, and mentioning that the locked bootloader hampers development, and limits customization.

honestly i do not think the either metro or LG gives a flying **** about us...they sold us the phone and they're done with it...LG made the nexus 4 and they have a slew of new phones coming...they aren't going to help us..

i hate to say it...but i am done with trying this :\

Sadly, this is true ^^^

Has anyone tried taking a recording (either online or on the phone) and pushed it to the other company saying that the OTHER company is responsible for this issue and not them? For instance take a copy of LG saying it's metro's responsibility and showing that to metro or vice versa?

I had this problem one time when buying an appliance from home depot. I kept going back and forth between them and whirlpool because they kept trying to say the other was responsible for the warranty. Finally I just asked for an e-mail (because I was doing this over the phone) stating what they were saying and I sent a copy to BOTH companies. I got ANOTHER call trying to give me the run around and I had enough and called home depot on three way and made them fight it out. lol

I suspect the same thing, Reviews at least give other consumers the knowledge to avoid the product, and if enough bad publicity is spread, it has the potential to change the business practices. IE... The spirit has the same issue with the bootloader, and is the most recent phone, if the sales can be hurt, perhaps LG or Metro will relent on the locked bootloader for that device.

LG doesn't care..they know they aren't a major competitor in the mobile phone field... they aren't going to try either because they don't want Apple to put them in their crosshairs

I think they, might willing unlock the bootloader in due time. After tons of people have bought more expensive phones and all the features were not allowed are a more common place for smartphone. Its like waiting for an advance phone to be more obsolete. Even locked with already existing software and drivers they could have easily sokd the motion at a much higher price.
At metro the other day i saw a new wildfire going for 129 and its almost obsolete now.
They know how easy it is to modify their stuff and everybody in essence would be walking around with 200 dollar phones they got for 50 bucks.the pricier models might lose some sells.
They know exactly what happens to there phones when get a hold of them. I called qualcomm looking for a driver thr guy was cool and would have given it to me if it were not for policy.guess what he told me.
I am not permitted to give the quhsdload driver to you but check at xda you might have luck there.

Lol

Some of the international lg ftp sites dont require a user name and password. Maybe something could be found on one but there is the language barrier. Or maybe someone can get a username and pass for the main one.

Apparently metro did have LG lock the phone and is against having it unlocked or rooted. This was after a conversation I had with metro.

All LG ICS phones are locked.

May be time to move on. The Mrs. has the Motion on my acct, so it's been safe from me for the time being. Seriously, if LG is going to lock down every ICS phone it pumps out so that I can't run my device the way I want, than the Motion is my last LG purchase. If somebody cracks this bootloader, LG will make a more iron clad (is it possible??) bootloader.

I'm interested in why, if MetroPCS is ordering phones to be locked down, would the Avid they sell come with an unlocked bootloader (affirming that I am not siding with MPCS), yet the Spirit and Motion are like Fort Knox? I was eyeballing the Spirit for my next phone LOL. After seeing how tough it is to crack the Motion open for development I'm having second thoughts about that one, and it doesn't look any less of a daunting task to free that beast :D

Cost measure? For what? That has nothing to do with a bootloader....

Extras are never free. EG: One optional locked bootloader for one Motion = let's say $1 per phone. Multiply that X number of Motions sold = lots of money. Somebody wanted them locked for a reason. Whether it be Metro and/or LG, who knows exactly why. Maybe to block people from tethering?

I have a devious idea...

anyone now any of the names of the higher ups/developers at Metro?..

and same thing with LG?....

we could lie to LG and tell them we are someone else and ask them for a test file to unlock the bootloader or something along those lines...
