Root Verizon Spirit Firmware has been released!!!

sammyz

LG Whiz Kid
WARNING, YOU ARE FLASHING THIS FIRMWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK, IT MAY OR MAY NOT DAMAGE THE RADIO OF THE PHONE.

When I flashed Spirit Firmware on my Motion, it killed my 4G. Went to a Corp MetroPCS store and they replaced it, no questions asked.

Someone flashed Motion firmware on their Spirit, he was able to fully recover, nothing got damaged. (I don't recommend doing that).

I don't know what will happen if you flash this on your phone. So you are flashing this at your own expense. Whether another Corp Store will be nice and replace this phone or not is unpredictable. I got mine replaced on Sample Road in Deerfield Beach, FL.

Here are the download links:

LG Website link:
This is the LG website link to the LG VS870 Firmware B. Out of respect to LG for making these available, we encourage users to avoid using the direct link. Instead use the torrent links when possible to so that LG's network has low bandwidth impact.

If you don't know how to flash this, you shouldn't be flashing it.

Someone please run this on their Spirit running Spirit MS870 firmware:
Code:
ls -l /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name
Then run it again when on VS870 firmware please and paste both logs.

Will root method work?? I don't know.
There have been rumors that the phone will be released with Jellybean...so maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

I just hope this isn't gonna turn out to be the same problem as the Connect/Lucid/Viper family....

Wait:
Confirmed to have JB
2oi8V

2oib3

I'm curious to see what comes of this. Just some wishful thinking. Dreams of an unlocked bootloader.

I'm thinking a good dev may get a hold of this phone, unlock bootloader, instantly unlocks bootloader for Spirit, Motion, Optimus Regard, Spectrum 2......

That was me.

As sammyz warned Just don't do it... the screen goes all gray (at least LCD turns on) without any fonts, so you don't know you are in download mode or not.

If it happens, you just turn on phone with key combination, hope you are in download mode. Flash firmware, if it detects phone and start doing step by step you are lucky if not you just have to turn off then turn on again.

It took me several attempts to come back to Spirit firmware.. what a nightmare it was

I never said it can't be done :p
In the OP you can take the firmware and flash it, I give you a warning because I have no idea what it will do to phone.

I was just being a smartass. I'm not gonna flash another phones firmware, I don't have the money to spare if it bricks my phone.

I was really hoping there was a way to take apart the cab file and see what's there. Chances are the phone will be released before much longer and it can be gotten that way.

Well hold your pants, someone is going to flash it :p

But can you unlock it is now the question

Currently the guy who flashed it is trying to get the KDZ program to run again....he bricked (softly)

Interesting facts:
Screen is flipped on a y axis (geometry people ;) )
Radio doesn't work
Wifi works
Touchscreen works (flipped)
Root method for spirit works

We don't know if restoring spirit firmware will fix radios or not.

I'm wondering if flashing the etc folder from stock spirit over vs870 firmware would work.

etc contains most of the files that make the phone tick... like firmware, wifi, and bluetooth amongst other things.

Forget the essentials of porting. I'm gonna have to brush up again if we're gonna try to actually do this.

Boot.img from spirit caused vs870 firmware to brick.
Just let the one guy unbrick, once he does, he'll back up all partitions and post em :)

Our best bet at porting this would be with a system pull, boot.img, and recovery.img.

Then create a system folder for spirit and one for vs870 side by side and swap necessary files like firmware and vendor stuff and adjust build.prop... I'm sure dpi will have to be adjusted. Both phones have same resolution which equals higher dpi for vs870 because of smaller screen.
