welcome to the forums!!!!!!Hello! If I may request some support...
I've managed to run all the way through the BabyRacun steps, except for the last one regarding RabiesShot. It had not occurred to me that this process is Linux only...? I've done everything up to this point in Windows, and when I couldn't get RabiesShot to run, I looked for support on Team Unlimited's end, at which point they pointed out the Linux necessity and wouldn't answer my questions further (they seemed upset about me not using their guide exclusively).
So, I come to you guys to ask what I can do from here. I see users in this thread talking about how they're running Windows and accomplishing this (are they dual-booting, or am I missing something?). Is there a way to get RabiesShot to run, or has going through most of this process on Windows doomed me to start over on a Linux machine?
Thanks for your help and I really appreciate the guide!
EDIT:
OKAY! Everything went dandy. Well, there were some hickups learning to use Linux a bit, but it was a fun experience overall. I'm honestly surprised nothing went wrong since I did half of this in Windows and half in Ubuntu, but I really don't know the details of what's going on while rooting (although the guide does help with some of the details).
I'm all rooted and S-Off now! I'm starting to read up on the post about all the neat things I can do while rooted, installed Titanium Root PRO, and will be going to town as soon as time permits.
Again, I just want to thank you guys for this awesome guide, and special thanks to ocnbrze for the LiveCD suggestion. I really appreciate it!

I just got my Evo 4g LTE a few days ago and have been trying to root, but with no success. I have gotten unlocked from htcdev, but when trying to flash recovery I keep getting failed messages. This is my info from the hboot menu "JEWEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT- 2.09.0000
Radio- 1.12.11.1210
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0815
Oct 18, 2012" and my software is version 3.16.651.3 710RD. Can anyone direct me where to go for a ruu so I can achieve S-OFF and get rooted, please? I'm a complete noob to this! Thanks in advance!
What recovery have you tried to flash, and by what method?
ok with s-on you shuld be able to get recovery. did you use this guide? for recovery? the best way is thru fastboot command as described in the guide. did you try that version? you are unlocked, correct?I have tried several different methods through the command prompt method. Thought it might have been an issue with the twrp version I was using, but had the same result with all of them. I just noticed last night that I have software version 3.16.651.3 710RD and came to the conclusion THAT'S the reason I kept getting failed message. I still have S-ON as well.
I must add, I'm a complete noob to rooting and have no clue what exactly to look for based on the info I posted above. Help, please?

just follow the guide and it should walk you thru how to get s-off. we are here if you need us......just remember to read and then read some more and then ask as many questions that you need before rooting. and also remember we are here for you if you need us......good luck![]()
Every time I have tried over the last several days I get a failed message when attempting to flash recovery. How to Root HTC Evo 4G LTE! [Unlock Bootloader][ICS/JB][4.1.1] | HTC Evo 4G Hacks! This is the guide I was going by. I'm stuck at step 25, which is installing the recovery. I thought it was the twrp 2.1.8 jewel file that was a lower version of mine, so I tried with 2.3.1, 2.4.4.0 and always got the same error. Then I thought about it being because of my software version, which is 3.16.651.3 If there's any way to downgrade my software version to one so I can use an easier root, or just so long as I can get a custom recovery so my phone is rooted, it doesn't matter. I don't need S-OFF, to be honest, as I'm not a developer and wouldn't be doing anything drastic that would need S-OFF. I just want to be able to root, mainly for free wifi tethering on my phone. Thanks!
I've never used anything like that before, and don't know what commands would be needed for each different step. I will try flashing twrp 2.4.1.0 and copy the message here if it fails. That version of twrp is compatible with the software version I said I have, correct, or does it not matter on software version?
flashboot flash recovery<the name of the recovery file>.zip
it does not matter as long as you have an unlocked bootloader. what command are you using? it needs to be
Code:fashboot flash recovery<the name of the recovery file>.img
maybe that was the problem. I was using fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-jewel.img
So should I try doing it as "flashboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-jewel.img" or should I get one that's .zip and run directly from the zip folder?
no the <name of the file> part is where you insert the openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-jewel into the command. some files maybe named differently or a newer version might have a different number. it needs to be whatever the name is when you download it.
That's what I have been doing, only typing fastboot. Should I be typing "flashboot" instead? and should the file I'm attempting to flash be a .zip file, or is the .img file fine?
.....LOLsorry that was a typo.....LOL
to be sure what files do you have in your folder? do you have the fastboot.exe file? what is the error you are getting?
It's just the .img file I downloaded. I don't have the fastboot.exe file. would that be recommended to download? I also have the .img file downloaded as a .md5 as well.
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.4.1.0-jewel.img
