Root LTEVO ROOTING FOR DUMMIES {The Complete Guide}

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ics and jellybean are just software updates. with what you have you should have no issues with anything other then flashing aosp roms. mean rom is ics while meanbean is jellybean. you will not see any more development with mean rom. the dev is going forward with meanbean for now.

as of right now there are somethings about your hboot and being s-on and that is that you will not be able to easily update your radios should there be another update and you will not be able to try any aosp roms at the moment.

aosp roms like cm10 are much smaller then sense roms. for me i think they perform better because of this. i get better battery life out of aosp roms then i do on sense based roms. however, aosp roms are not for everyone. and for you the only way you can try them out is if you go all the way and get s-off......not that you need to right now........just letting you know what the differences are.

Thanks for that info! At least it's a quiet night here at work for me, so I'm having time to look up info & learn more about this! haha I'll probably go with meanrom for now, and possibly change it up at some point in the future.

Thanks! I was asking because I wasn't sure if MeanRom was compatible because I saw when searching that it's ICS and I wasn't sure if I'm ICS or JB.

now that you are unlocked, it does not matter what software version you are on. you can flash any rom that you like as long as it is designed for the evo 4g lte. you can go back and forth if you like. just as an example if there was a gingerbread rom out for the evo 4g lte you could flash that as well, then if you change your mind you can flash an ics rom. it really does not matter.

i was just saying that with mean rom, there will be no more updates as the dev has moved on to jb with meanbean.

I downloaded Titanium backup and it said I don't have root when I loaded and attempted back-up. Downloaded Root Checker and it said I don't have PROPER root. What exactly does this mean? What did I do wrong? Is it saying that because I'm still S-ON, or because I haven't installed a rom yet?

To be rooted you need to flash either a rooted rom, or flash a superuser zip package onto your existing unrooted stock rom.

If you're on TWRP 2.4.4, it will fetch the superuser package for you.

If not, just flash that package.

I have SuperSu that was in the Root files I downloaded and flashed. It says the SU binary needs to be updated and says I should use my custom recovery (TWRP) to install. Then it says SuperSu will attempt to reboot my device, but doesn't.

Go here, get the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip and install through TWRP.

It's not you.

Not once has anyone come through here saying that that they went to Evo Hacks and had no trouble.

The only reason I went through Evo Hacks was because THEY were the first one I found! Honestly, I forgot I had signed up here last year. I tried to sign up & it said my username AND email were already taken, so I requested a forgotten password and BAM! haha. You guys here are awesome, and have made it MUCH easier with helping walk me through everything!

Holy smokes, can't believe I missed all the fun today. :)

Good job on getting unlocked, enjoy the freedom provided!! :D

Let us know if you do decide to go for S-off, it's really not that bad. Once all your ducks are in a row, it's a snap! ;)

Decided to stick with stock for now since my buddy said he has been getting issues with MeanRom lately, so I downloaded WiFi Tether since I just wanted root for tethering. Just installed it & went to use it, and after MAYBE a minute of it running, I had a message pop on my phone saying something to the effect of "What the Hell! Your phone is trying to take control over internet" or something like that. Then my phone shuts the program down on it's own. I'll uninstall & re-install and see if it pops again. Any ideas why this could happen?

Another question I have is Does accepting a voicemail update do any damage to the device if you have rooted and unlocked? Because my friend said NOT to download voicemail updates after being rooted before. Does it make a difference?

It said "What the Hell! Your phone took control of WiFi Tethering. Immediate shutdown of WiFi Tethering required". Anybody know why?

there are other roms other then mean rom. have you tried meanbean or even viper(earlymon likes viper)? just make a nandroid backup of your stock rom and flash away. if you are having issues or do not like it you can always restore your nandroid backup.

i do not think it will hurt anything especially if you are on stock. just make a nandroid backup first then go ahead and accept it.

the error actually says that? weird

not sure but here are other versions you can try as well.

Yes it actually says that...I found it EXTREMELY strange as well! I was like WTF when I saw the pop up! lol Hope that 3.3 pre 2 works with my radios!!!

Any idea why my phone would take over & just shut off wifi tether on its own randomly? Along with giving me a message like that when doing it?! I'm sooo confused!

You think it could have something to do with my root or something? Possibly something with SuperSU?

no

try wiping dalvik cache and cache......to be honest i would just flash a rom if you gonna be wiping anyways. and i think either meanbean or viper would be the way to go.

both of them have the hacked hotspot cooked in.

did you try the fix as suggested in the link i just provided?

I'm using version 3.2 beta 2. I tried doing the steps from the link you posted, but when trying to turn WiFi on in settings, WiFi Tether had the error & shut down before I even had a chance to click to turn WiFi on. Plus I'm not using a samsung product, so I don't know how much issue that would have with outcome.

Could you possibly link to the most current version of both? Which do you prefer? MeanBean or Viper? Since I'm new to ALL of this, any suggestion is helpful! lol Thanks again!

yep go here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/614073-list-utilities-roms-kernels.html. go to the staff picks. the first two there are meanbean and viper.

and use the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...g-dummies-guide-racun-babyracun-unlocked.html. go to the second post for instructions on how to flash a rom properly. and don't forget to make a nandroid backup before flashing a rom.

i guarantee you that those two roms are waaaaaaaay better then stock.
