is the phone in fastboot? power the phone off then press and hold power+vol down to get to the bootloader and then select fastboot....now try the command in the command window.

also make sure that you are opening the command window from your folder where you have the adb files and fastboot.exe file.

Hello all

I am at the last step of BabyRacun S-Off process(RabiesShot) using Ubuntu LiveCD and all has gone smoothly till now. My phone is off with charge light and the terminal command says

Starting Up
Testing Connection
Test 1: Reboot into bootloader
Waiting Fastboot (18/60)

It has been waiting for a good 5 minutes now, maybe more

Should I reboot or leave it be?

I manually rebooted to fastboot and restarted the last process and its going ok now.

Hey guys, I know I'm in the right place (as usual). Rooted my wife's phone several months ago, got busy and never got around to finishing the process ad had only gotten s-on at the time- its now WAY out of date lol, and I need to run an RUU to get things up to speed before running dirty racun.
I'm Pretty sure I've seen the exact directions more than a couple times around here, but seem to have forgotten where they're hiding at. I think Ocn was the one who pointed me in that direction before.
As always , the help is greatly appreciated.
oh The phone in question is HBoot 1.19
and the current software is 2.13.651.
just a bit out of date lol
thanks

as usual, I knew it was there. just found the info! now I'm off to the races, so to speak, to get s-off and and get my flash on!

actually dirt racun now has the ruu's available on there site. it is part of the process in using dirty racun now.

and let us know how it went.....good luck.

Actually, once I switched over to using the Ubuntu system, it was pretty easy. I've still got a LOT to learn on Ubuntu, but it's coming along. I do remember quite a bit from DOS, from back in the day, so I think I'll do ok, as some of the commands are the same or similar, just gotta get the hang of the sudo command.

As is well now though, wife is a happy camper, and I know from having my phone s-off, that keeping the radios and roms up to date is much easier.
I put both of us on the Viper, but I might go back to Badseed, as that was my daily for over 6 months

hello i was wondering if i could get some help on how to use the forum and information on rooting the evo 4g lte to run a custom recovery
welcome to AF!!!!!!

well what help do you need? can you be more specific?

this guide should help you to get rooted. please let us know where we can help you out.

Ok, I'm really new to all this. I have never rooted before and have decided to do it to be able to put a few apps on that I need, namely Roam Control and Titanium Backup. However, I am no tech guy and don't understand all that I am reading. What is the easiest way for me to root my EVO 4g LTE running 3.16.651.3 71ORD. I think this may have been explained already but I am confused by much of what I read here. Is there anyone who knows how and can explain it in simple layman's terms? Also, if I am confused by this forum, should I just forget about this... Do I need more technical savvy to take this on? Thanks!!

We'll be happy to bring you up to speed on the tech to get this done.

Honestly, your biggest obstacles are buzzwords and the fact that the instructions encompass many variations of the phone and the tools since it's release.

Overall, the simple version of the process is -

* unlock the bootloader (that's the lowest bit of software, controls startup and a few other things, you normally never see it) using HTCdev.com

* install the TWRP custom recovery (second lowest bit, normally unseen, and it's your primary tool for managing the system)

* install root bits or a rooted rom using TWRP

* optionally, but highly recommended by us, remove encrypted signature checking on the bootloader, iow, getting s-off, so your later rom/software/radio firmware management is just easier

I'm not fully in yet, been traveling, and have limited access at the moment, but myself or one of us can walk you through it - fair warning, I'll be more available for questions tomorrow.

Hope this helps you get a bit of a start. :)

Welcome to the forums!

well it seems like you are up to date firmware wise(ota's) so i would recommend that you try out moonshine. it is pretty straight forward and i'm more then happy to walk you thru it.

edit: i mean if you really want to get s-off which makes things easier when flashing roms, but that is up to you.
