Root LTEVO ROOTING FOR DUMMIES {The Complete Guide}

Its good having two exact phones ,,If I screw one up i have a back up..lol...its nice being able to try two roms at a time ....ok another smoke filled question...do i always have to flash kernnels seperate?...cause thats what i have been doing so far it worked 1 outta 2 times...I flashed viper but i couldnt get my screen to work so i lite one up and thought about it ...then found sharky and went with that instead...

^ Ninja'd :D

We ought to give Sharkier a spin and add it to the list.

Btw, note the title -

[ROMs][SharkieROM-LTE v2.5.1 S-ON -10/4/13][ Stock 3.17.651.4 Rooted-10/8/13]

Stock (numbers) says it's Sense, based on (numbers) version.
I actually like it alot ...its the only one that has worked so far, so that might have somthing to do with it...

Viper4G and others include the s-on kernel installer but thanks to s-on being finicky, you can never count on it to work.

When it does, great, otherwise, flash the boot.img separately, no big deal.

Viper4G simply has more built-in options, but both are deodexed - meaning both are amenable to theming.

I'll say it a last time and then shut up about it, you'll see after you play with it - nothing beats Viper4G ease in that department.

ok so I have tried both (mean bean, and viper)...viper hands down is what i am going with...I have not slept yet....lol....Playing and tweaking both...But viper has the exact thing that I am looking for, full custimization , my phone is running smooth, looking smooth, and sounding smooth. Now my only problem is my wife wants to have a different ROM...nag nag nag...she has the same exact phone so can anyone recommend anything....or anyone have any themes I could show her...we are Odinists so nature stuff is a plus lol

Just because..she has to be different...like I said she is on the verge of killing me again and I need your help she has sharkie right now and she wants to customize EVERYTHING but she dont want viper4g

My wife and I both use Viper4G and you'd never know it to use our phones side by side.

I'm de-Sensed with the Nova launcher and a multitude of theme elements. She's Sense all the way.

You will lose some HTC features going to an AOSP type rom (pacman is one). If things like the HTC camera or FM radio are important, that's something to consider.

If not, I guess we have to look at the fact that you have the latest firmware. Ocnbrze says that causes a touchscreen issue with s-on and the later firmware.

You're both on the latest-latest so you can always nandroid backup what she has, see if you can use PACMan and nandroid back if not.

That's the power of nandroid backups. It doesn't put you at risk to try what's out there.

If she wants to try the most Google like experience, check out CodefireXperiment.
Btw, check out hers compared to mine -

Yeah you will have issues with pacman since it is an aosp rom with the latest firmware......you need s-off for that which there isn't a way just yet......given time I'm sure the devs will find a way, but not at this time.......this is why you should never update your phone if yo plan on rooting it at some point.....updates will always close any previous exploits used to get s-off.

I agree with EM.......make a nandroid backup andgive viper a try.

Yeah from what I read when it came out the latest firmware was not changed......so if the phone is up to date it should have the touch panel firmware update that caused issues with aosp roms........so I doubt that pacman will work properly on the latest ota.

xda-developers - View Single Post - touch panel on aosp or cm

aarsy linked to XDA above said:
Cm roms built on the Linux 3.4 kernel support the new touch panel. I don't think that the MIUI rom supports it, though.

I understand from the thread this works with PACMan -

Haunted Kernel (X2.3.5) - 3.4.66 AOSP 4.3 - Linaro true -o3 - xda-developers

And codefireXperiment says it supports the latest firmware and hboot -

[ROM] [JEWEL] [AOSP] [4.3] [cfX-Toolchain 4.8.y+] codefireXperiment Official Nightly - xda-developers

If I'm reading that right, the _latest_ AOSP rom/kernels ought not be a problem even with s-on.

Ya nandroid has saved me many headaches...I am so thankful for this forum...you guys rooted my phone and all I have done is press buttons...I have learned a lot from you two..Thank you both again..I no longer look like a douche in front of her :)

ok added this to the guide:
rumrunner s-off
OK so thanx needs to go out to beaups and fuses. If you did not know, the latest OTA (firmware version 3.17) was not rootable(no s-off).......until now. thanx to rumrunner s-off we now have root again for the latest OTA.

just a reminder that you should never accept an OTA, especially if you plan on rooting your phone. this habit should be applied to any device.

anyways here is rumrunner:

first off i will not be doing a play by play as it is better if you follow the devs instructions and not mine, since they know best....what i will be doing is just giving you an overview in the hope that it will make it easier for you to understand what the devs wants you to do.

ok so here are the prerequisites:
  • this will only wok in either linux or windows.
  • virtual machines are unsupported
  • if you are on windows:
    • have the latest htc drivers
    • no htc sync(it needs to be deleted)
    • any program that needs to communicate to the phone...no pdanet and such
    • disable all internet securities and firewalls
  • a working internet
  • usb debugging turned on
  • fastboot disabled(settings/battery/uncheck fastboot)
  • make sure not to have any passcode or patterns for lockscreen
  • use usb 2.0....there is connectivity issues with usb 3.0
  • must be on 3.17 software and firmware versions
  • you must be unlocked....please HTCdev for instructions
  • you must be on a stock sense rom or run the risk of bootloops or worse

ok so here it is:
1.download the correct file for the htc evo 4g LTE.....there is two....the first one is for linux, while the other is for windows.
2. extract the file as explained in the guide
3.run the soju.exe
4.accept the terms and conditions
5.Congrats!!!!!!!!

now this will give you su and busybox so there is no need to do that as described in chapter 4. if you want you can stay on stock after running rumrunner, but you will still need a recovery so proceed to the next chapter.

here is the xda thread:
[s-off] rumrunner s-off - xda-developers

and here is the actual site:
http://rumrunner.us/

ya safe is good...but i think my nandroid for my original rom has been deleted by accident..and my old computer is in new york by now...l

ya i will stick around for that...i agree i will feel safer stock...i already bricked wifes evo..not trying to ruin mine...
