Eris to v2.x, when?

Face it. The (2.1 official release) ain't happening. We bought an outdated product, with outdated software. Verizon just butt-f@#ked us.

Actually....

There was a Verizon sponsored expo called Wireless Technology Today at UPenn in Philly. I went there to check to see the Incredible (which was there) but even just as interesting was what the rep said to my girlfriend (who has an Eris). The rep himself had an Eris and swore that the 2.1 update was coming out at the end of the month (April). Now...you may believe me or not, but he showed us his Eris which looked like it had a fairly stable 2.1 release and I would bet money that it was a newer build than the v.2.

Keep your chins up people, it doesn't make sense that a hero clone would get left in the dust.

It's the same thing I was complaining about the second day the first update came out. The second update was better, but I am still have the problem once a day. IF I turn the phone on and off, it's ok then. I got tired of reporting it on the forum...as if anyone cared about rants...We're here to have fun, good banter, and patently wait for 2.1 OTA official.:rolleyes:
 
Talked to a Verizon CSR last night and she said that HTC had sent them the update, but when they tested it they decided to send it back. Must have had some bugs still that VZW wanted fixed before its release. She did bot have any information on a date though :(

I was getting silent dial all the time with both leaked 2.1 updates. Then I decided to try switching from Sense to Home, and I haven't had it happen since.
 
I've given up. with the touch screen problems, slow response, the lack of info on an update, the bad battery life, and other stuff, I bought a Blackberry Tour online and i just LOVE it!

I completely disagree. I've been managing software development, releases, tech upgrades, product rollouts, etc. for going on 30 years (yes, I'm "seasoned"). It's not practical or even professional to start responding to this chatter. Large projects are very fluid. Sometimes the timeline looks great, the next day a bunch of unexpected stuff pops up. You can't subject your customers to that rolercoaster.

No arguement here on the priority, BUT, if you commit - deliver. My complaint is that Vz & HTC are totally ignoring their customers screams for information. They were the source for any expectation of an upgrade to 2.x and the 1st qtr release. All fine. Now just let the CUSTOMERS know what is going on - even if they choose to drop it.

BTW - from what I've read here and elsewhere, this lack of info is costing both companies in the goodwill department. That equates to money down the road. The remedy is simple - respond to your customers.

Surely (and the everyone else :-) ) you have noticed the emphasis I place on CUSTOMER. This seems a common problem today - companies have lost their focus on the customer in chasing $$. This includes hiding behind call centers and the Web.

Did Verizon receive a CD or DVD via snail mail, examine it on a computer, then put it back in an envelope or box and mail it back?

While I don't disagree with you at all, I would point out that this is not exactly a critical issue. For HTC and Verizon Wireless, this update will not lead to higher sales, and probably would not reduce support costs. It is not developing the software for a product in development, where a delay affects the ability to begin shipping the product.

In short, it is hard to argue that this is a priority project for either HTC or Verizon Wireless. They want to provide an update, I am sure, so long as it works properly, but, even without an update, the phone continues to work for their customers. It surely would not hurt HTC or Verizon Wireless to simply post or announce something that said that they continue to work on this, that they cannot give a target date, something. But clearly Verizon Wireless and HTC have plenty of other projects that are more critical to their bottom line than providing and Android OS update to a rather small fraction of their customers.

Well, they apparently lost Kenneth to the "Black Side". I'm sure there are others that have or will be taking a step backwards to Blackberry or something else because they lack patience and/or understanding, which could, in many cases, be remedied by the occasional assurance from a credible source.

HTC and Verizon work together on the update. It takes time to fully develop parts of the software such as HTC sense for the device. The only remote date I can give is sometime at the end of April. Here in tech support we are not given any type of official release information until the software has been released from Verizon. Verizon will be pushing the update to your device once the standards have been met.
