Root Unlocked Sprint HTC EVO 4g flashed to Cricket

-yes I have put my feet in the water..waded out too far...and I am finding it hard to find the way back. Shouldn't jump in when you can't see the bottom, unless you've already been there. I'll stay in the shallow for now OCNBRZE. You did warn me well in advance.

ok so i numbered your post to make things clearer for you.

1. mikg is a sense rom so you will need a sense(gingerbread) kernel. aosp kernels will not work with sense.

-so just flash any sense rom you want to try. has to be gingerbread because thats the stock platform of the kernel I am running.

no it does not have to be gingerbread. the kernel for each rom gets cooked in so it does not matter what you flash....if you can find some ecclair roms out there, you can flash that if you like(not really sure why). you just need to pay attention as to what custom kernel you want.
2. a custom kernel does not have anything to do with a2sd. kernels basically will control how the phone will perform. it controls battery life and speed of the phone. you will need setcpu to control and fine tune the kernel.

-so I can partition without a custom kernel. just wait until my new card comes in, backup with...I don't know...something I can get to work, then partition and restore back to new card.(will have to investigate TB problem)
correct no need for a custom kernel. you just need recovery to partition the card. amon ra is the one i like, but smelkus is fine as well.
3. with a2sd, you will need to partition the card to ext3( most roms have no support for ext4) and then if you stay with mikg then it has a2sd cooked in so once partioned, your apps should move automatically.

-to move automatically I need a backup app installed to perform this, or it does it on it's own once the backed up data is restored in recovery?
it should do it on its own. but you can always manually do it. you will need Android Terminal Emulator and enter a command....but we can do this when you get there.
4. why did tb not work for you? you are rooted so it should have been fine. did it give an error? or did it say you do not have root access?

-Not sure. I am rooted and thought it would work just fine as well. It gave me a force close. It did not say "do not have root access"-UPDATE- Re-downloaded TB...now it is working..wheww!!:D
ok that is good then.
5. yes i love cheese....my favorite is Roquefort which i had earlier today....delicious.

-Mine is a simple Pepper Jack cheese. Love the spice!:eating:
i also love brie!!!!! not much of a pepper jack fan.

and if you feel like diving head on then we can definitely help you with that. do you know how to swim? cuz the pool is pretty deep;):p:D

answers are in red

So is there a guide on what steps to take to partition your new card with already being unlocked, rooted and having a flashed rom already? Is it a good idea to just clean everything (factory reset) and start from the beginning using this ...

Partition Your Card

it is recommended that you do this before trying to flash a rom.
so here are the directions on how to do it:
1.copy your content of the card to a computer because partitioning will wipe the card's content.
2.go into recovery and select partition your sd card
3.enter 32 for swap, and 1024 or 2048 for ext2, and do the rest for FAT
4.select upgrade ext2 to ext3
5.select usb-ms toggle and transfer your contents of your card on your computer back to the card.
6.go to the main menu and do a full wipe (min data, dalvik cache and cache)
7.flash the superwipe
8.flash the rom of your choice.
9.reboot

from now on it is recommended you wipe dalvik cache, cache, data and sd ext.before flashing roms. MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT SELECT WIPE SD CARD as it will do just that. your card will be erased. also make sure that when making a nandroid backup to select sd ext to be backed up as well.

i would recommend it.....but it is not necessary. a clean install will always help out with a2sd installing properly.

I think the first thing is to learn how to use TB*root and backup all my apps and data before going into cleaning and partitioning. Yeah I'll wait until Friday buy the Pro version and do a full backup and then go from there. Does that sound like a good idea OCNBRZE?;)

yep sounds like a great plan to me:)

Okay, I have one quick question about the file size or partition size on my 32gb card. In the instructions it says..." 1024 or 2048 for ext2"....
If partitioning a 32gb card what is a good recommendation for partition size to set for ext2 then fat32? Any help would be appreciated.

Okay I kinda messed up I think. I started all of this with the usb unplugged from the phone. Got ahead of myself. I'm at usb-toggle step and now when i plug in my phone it is not being recognized by my comp. Can I reboot phone and then go into option for disk drive so comp. picks it up and recognizes so I can transfer contents onto new sdcard?

see?.......you are getting;)

keep going you are almost done.

ok my TB Pro restore has been going for like an hour and it still is not done yet and nothing is moving to my sdcard automatically, my system rom is maxed out both partitions on sd have nothing. I try and run restore and it tells me "operation already in progress. but it has been an hour.

yeah doing large batches can sometime be a pain. force stop tb and try smaller batches...you are on mikg, right?

Yes, I'm on MikG.

Okay my notification drop down bar says Ti <<<icon showing....next to that it says "Restoring"
3%-Google Play services 10:35pm

I open TB and it says "number of data app elements 197"
Then it says "All application info has been loaded from the OS"

But apps like Angry birds, A+ Mobile, App Backup & Restore, Astro file manager, Audio Effect Service 1.0, BusyBox Free 9.2, com.androoid.htcprofile, Firefox 20.0.1 and Google play services didn't restore and have a line through them.

ok be careful with apps like google play services as those are system apps. they will be in red. do not restore those as they might restore at all or they may create a conflict with your phone.

so lets do this,
1. go into recovery
2. wipe dalvik cache and cache
3. reboot
4. go into tb
5. go into settings and do batch restore(if you have the pro key)
6. select restore missing apps with data(again do not restore anything in red)
7. select a small group of apps to restore

and see if that will work.

Okay all my apps are showing and data is with it. But why if MikG has a2sd didn't all of them move automatically to sdcard?

here is a screenshot of my tb from my evo:

see how it shows a2sd? if you have anything in there then you are fine.

and the apps does not get moved until you restore the apps onto the phone. if for some reason that did not happen then there is an easy fix.

nginx error!

Trying to upload a screenshot of my tb from evo. Won't allow me due to error shown above. Just wanted you to see what I'm looking at OCNBRZE

Thnx Mikestony. I was able to use imageshack and upload that way. I know now what I was experiencing. While my EVO was connected as disk drive/charge only, via usb to my computer, I opened up TB and while it is connected to computer it unmounts or does not see sd card, only a2sd. Then when I close TB, disconnect from computer and re-open TB while disconnected, it then shows sd card and a2sd. It is not available to see because of when the application TB is running and connected to computer it thinks your executing actions within TB and it uses that partition when performing any operations, therefore it will not show because it is being used as an external by the computer! I think I learned something. This would be some good info for TB noob users.:D

wow!!!! i just learned something. i guess i never had my phone hooked up to the pc while in tb....LOL....definitely good to know.

Here is the image that I am looking at on my phone while disconnected and connected to computer.

I'm confused. I must of been having an issue yesterday or whenever it was. Now I'm not experiencing that problem. I'm not sure as to what I was doing then for sdcard to not show and a2sd to be the only one to show. Oh well all is good now. No worries!:D

Disregard last post then. I thought I stumbled onto some learning.:dontknow::shot::vroam::rofl:

Well OCN, I just tried it and like my last post says it now shows up so I'm not sure what was going on. Thought that I figured it out. Maybe my EVO just needed a reboot. I remember doing that yesterday but didn't reconnect and try it until today. So who knows.
