I'd try a fine tip perm marker before spraying any paint into it. Spray paint sounds a little too agressive to me. But then I'm a fraidy cat! :)

Yeah, that's what I have been thinking. Maybe even a detailing black paint pen. Something that won't put paint in places where you obviously wouldn't want it, like a speaker or a microphone.

yeah. painting a speaker grill with a speaker behind it, is NOT a wise idea.
you'll distort the sound coming out of it.

I just wanted to hop in and dispel this myth.

Black Tie Protection is great for the fact that there is no deductible and they cover any and all damage to the phone, including water damage.

However, they DO NOT automatically issue you a new phone. When you bring your phone in, BBM will issue you a loaner phone. They will then take you over to Geek Squad to send your phone off to attempt to be repaired by whichever vendor they happen to be using at the time.

The vendor will then (over the course of 1-4 weeks) attempt to repair your phone. If they are unable to repair your phone and have a unit available, they WILL send you a refurbished phone. If, after 30 days, they are unable to repair your phone and no refurbished unit is available, you can visit the store and they will do an equipment swap that day for a new unit.

I am very familiar with this process because I have had to send my DROID off for repairs twice and have been without it a total of 7 weeks since purchasing it. I am now beginning to have a problem with the micro usb port, so per their lemon policy on the third return I have the option of switching to another phone retail -> retail.

Needless to say I will be switching to the Incredible which seems to be a more quality phone. I am also looking forward to the faster Snapdragon, internal memory and Sense UI.

Come on little DROID, hold together until the 29th!
I was going to buy the phone at BB until I read this. Now that I have, I'll probably try to talk my Verizon phone rep into selling me BOTH phones for $199 a piece. Thanks.

and what's that mean steven? if you buy it from big red and lose it, does that mean they will replace it? I don't know if vz or asurion covers this?

please enlighten me if I am wrong or coming from a "different point of view" :)

yes Asurion covers LOST phones. this is the big difference between the two insurance policies and why asurion has a 89 dollar deductible

Squaretrade offers insurance for 6 bucks a month (you have to pay it all up front though.... as I would presume you would have to do with BestBuy's Insurance--but the difference is that you can cancel Squaretrade at any time and get refunded the difference, so if you only want a year, you can do that, etc), $50 dollar deductible, brand new phone. Covers everything but lost/stolen.

According to posts here, you can buy the phone at BB and than thru Verizon you can add the Verizon insurance. One post I've read said you can add the Verizon insurance thru BB.

You have 30 days after activating your phone to add the Verizon insurance. I got that from the Verizon website.

Morning everyone,
My wife upgraded her phone last night to a Palm Pixi. Not a bad little device for what she wants/does (medical software, social networking).
Anyway, was talking to manager and he asked why I wasn't upgrading. Told him I am waiting for the Incredible. His face lit up. He CONFIRMED a release on 4/29 barring any issues (received email from corporate on release date).
Pricing is $600 retail, said it should be about $199 with 2 yr contract. Claimed he had hands on with phone and it was SMOKIN' HOT. He said they are NOT taking pre-orders for the phone currently. Was not sure if they would be closer to release date or not.

Edit: Betting on commercials during the NFL draft.

Yes, a Sharpie or the dye that the other guy was talking about is the best bet, no spray. Once the spray coats the speaker and hardens it, it will alter the sound.

You also might want to wait till the phone is a month or two old so you know that it functions ok; no hidden build problems. Modifying it with anything that you can not undo if you have to exchange it for another, may give them ammo for not allowing the exchange.

It would be a bummer for you to wait all this time for the phone you want and then if you get a bad one, can't take it back because of a simple color change...;)

Thanks. I went to the Asurion website and saw that people often have 15-30 days after activation to get their service, but I hadn't looked up Verizon's policy.

I think I'm gonna go with what you said. I'll buy at BB, saving money on the second phone, and ensure with Verizon unless the Verizon rep offers me some sorta deal.

Does anyone think that elongated bottom on the HTC will result in an uncomfortable typing experience? It appears that the iphone is perfectly balanced.

Please disregard phone size.....

The Best Buy insurance is $9.99 per month. If you need a new phone, there is NO deductible, and the phone you get is NEW not a refurb.

I don't know if this is an unusual circumstance or not but my friend had a phone from BB and had the insurance. He had some problems with the phone and he went in to get it replaced. Before they would replace it for him they told him they would try to fix the phone. During that time he had to get a loaner phone. A basic non-smartphone was free but if he wanted a smartphone they made him pay a couple hundred dollars (that they re-imbursed when he returned it).

Anyway, he told me they had his phone for a month before they returned it to him. Again, i don't know if that's just an unusual situation or whatnot....but the last thing I want to do is pay out of pocket for a loaner that I have to make sure nothing happens to while BB tries to fix my phone.

any one else have any similar experience?

NM, seems like someone beat me to this

I've never been the other guy before... lol

Anyways, you'd still have to take it apart if you're going to use vinyl dye b/c it's still an aerosol spray. The typical rule for modding something like this one is to wait until you can get your hands on a cheap broken one that you can dissect and reassemble to "practice" on before going full-bore on the one that cost your $600.

nope.
that elongation will make using the optical trackpad (joystick?) that much more enjoyable :)
as far as typing, u got 3.7in of screen real estate.

Quick question about the Verizon insurance...if they cover LOST phones and then you pay the deductible for the replacement...what happens if you end up finding the lost phone? Can that be reactivated and can someone else use it?? I have a 3 year old and a one year old. They are always playing w/ my phone and have lost it a few times.

No. They took no phone information. I only needed to pay the $50 and put my name, address, and phone number on a piece of paper. They put that paper, along with my receipt, into file with all the other preorders. The $50 gift card, if I understood correctly, is attached to the phone hardwareand can only be used to buy the phone (I could be wrong about that though...it doesn't look any different than a normal one, it says "Happy Birthday" lol)

If you get no insurance, then you'd be SOL. I had a phone once that didn't have insurance and the screen cracked....they said, "sorry, you don't have insurance, there is nothing we can do"

And now for the pic of my receipt.....

...Shopped. ;)

I don't think typing will be uncomfortable at all. Screen size itself is decent on the Incredible.

because the REPLACEMENT cost of the phone is SIX hundred dollars....

Note: I'll prolly be getting Verizon's insurance, but only for for the first year then I'll drop it...

Its one of those things like when you buy a ferrari ...if you need to worry about how much gas is going to cost you to drive it...you can't afford it :D
