Root ElementalX Rom

Won't let me run swiftkey3. Anyone else notice this? when I click on the app, I get... "unfortunately, settings has stopped" and it knocks me back to the home screen. This is the only app that seems to be doing that. I've tried to reinstall it to no avail

clear data/force close/restart seems to have fixed it

Actually, no it didn't... It won't let me configure it to be my default keyboard. Can't use it at all.

Dealbreaker! I do a lot of typing and I have too much affection for that keyboard to give it up. I can't do the stock keyboard
With these ROMs, it's always something. Oh well

It should. Are you sure there isn't a keyboard icon in your notifications? Should be. It's the ime switch that lets you choose your input method.

I found a workaround. I had to enable it under the keyboard an input function under System Settings. Then I was able to use it

Have you tried Kii keyboard? I prefer it to Swiftkey or even Swype.

I forgot about that keyboard. I need to try it out again because it's been a couple months since I have. I bought swype since it came out on the market and I also own swiftkey 3 and no matter what keyboard I try I always end up back on swype, but I remember kii being pretty decent but had some lag. Thanks for reminding me about it because I'm sure it's had a few updates since I tried it last

Yeah, just tried to install and run it, has something to do with Swiftkeys install process... Can go into settings and set it as default and it will open but the app doesn't think it's done installing so it doesn't function...

seems like a restart should fix that. swiftkey is wack anyway and this rom is too cool for it so like in any situation where one thing is cool and the other not you'll get conflict :p

what your phone says in the notification window.

oh. thnx. I was tinkering with it but I couldn't figure out what it was affecting. lol

I have to admit I'm liking the ROM so far. I haven't had any major issues except installing swiftkey and I worked that out so I think I'll stick with it for a while.

finally flashed last night, seems pretty cool. Had the issue with swift also. I set it as default through the stock settings menu then it took me back to swift installer to finish with no issues. Airplane mode is still crap though. 15% drain over 7 hours. Battery still seems weak, but I'm still on my original flash cycle. Seems smooth and very functional though. I'll give a couple days and see how it goes.

I actually tested airplane mode last night and it's the best I've had in sometime...I got 13 percent drain in about 9 hours...which obviously isn't much better than what you got but we must remember we've had our phones for over a year now and have put the battery through many charging cycles and it's probably not reasonable to expect battery life like we once had. I'm seeing more and more complaints about battery life lately and perhaps this is mostly due to the fact that we are all getting some age on our batteries. Just some food for thought.

My battery life is phenomenal. Best I've ever had so far.

Over all, I think I've finally found something I can live with:)

battery life is horrid for me on everything JB so far except the cm 10.1 beta. ive dropped 4% in 47 min at idle with no data or wifi. No auto notifications or anything. Its not an old battery issue either. The night before last i dropped 2% over 8 Hours in AP mode with cm 10.1 beta. Idle no data or wifi ill drop about 1% every 1 - 1 1/2 hours. i dont think its its completely unreasonable to see battery life close to our GB days. I'm close with CM 10.1 beta. If only that screen on delay was fixed.

edit: other than battery life, i love this rom. lots of features, nice and smooth.

Yes, battery life is significantly improved over the first release of this ROM. Not sure what he tweaked but man it's awesome! And now all the features are fully functional... can't beat it!

I get 15 percent overnight with juice defender killing the data and in 15 minute pings. I'm definitely going to try this rom now, since the dpi adjustments is a selling point for me.

A very nice Elemental style theme with inverted Play Store, Google Now, etc. if anyone's looking for one. Also available in a variety of colors.

I saw it suggested in a post that mpdecision running out not causes a lot of battery drain. I've started doing
ps | grep mpdecision
From a terminal emulator randomly. I've noticed that my drain isn't too bad with it running (at least on other roms. I haven't tried this one). I've noticed that I can be at home with WiFi and full service and drop like 8 to 10% in 7 or do hours. Whereas I've caught my phone dropping almost 30% in 8 hours while in airplane mode at work when it wasn't running. Not sure if it's causative out correlative yet though...

Is there a way to script this into init.d? Maybe on a timer? I noticed a big battery savings difference with doing this command at each boot.

You shouldn't notice anything battery savings from issuing that command... >.>

All that that command is doing is listing your running processes filtered to look for a process by that name. If there is one, it displays the info line... if there isn't it doesn't.

What I was saying, is that issuing that you'll see whether or not mpdecision is running. What I've noticed is that if it's running I get better life, or when I'm getting better life it's running. When my battery life is crap, it's not running; or vice versa.

Really, you could do whatever you want in init.d. Right now I'm running a customized init.d (I have a thread on it, but its mostly just me rambling ;) ). I currently have a script that runs once my homescreen loads to check for mpdecision and thermald and start them if they're not running. The problem is that sometimes when I start mpdecision by hand my phone reboots. I'm not sure if that's happening yet as a result of that script.

I don't know if you've noticed it with any init.d scripts you use... but the traditional methods of getting init.d seemed flaky to me. Sometimes the scripts would run, sometimes they wouldnt.

That all said, I'd rather not hijack this thread on an off-topic discussion.

1st major hiccup... Today my notification bar suddenly disappeared. I rebooted and checked settings... Nothing seems out of order but notification bar won't come back.
I even tried adding a shortcut to toggle it but nothing happens when I press it.

Any advice?

you didn't put the phone into tablet mode? You must have done something to toggle it off.
