Root help get a dev unit to a dev

i found this on ebay, dirt cheap, free shipping, i figure if we can get enough people willing to donate then paypal it to pg he could purchase it and possibly get further along with cm. havent had the chance to discuss my idea with him yet but i figured id ask how much people were willing to throw down on it. i cant say ill be able to help much if at all but im gonna try, and do not send the money to my paypal donation link i cant claim the funds...

now this is assuming no one has an extra sequent or wants to just shell out the full amount. if i could i would just buy it but im ridiculously broke so i figure taking up a collection might be the way to go

I can definitely donate for this. It would be amazing to have PG working on our phone and be able to test.

Someone setup a PayPal/bit coin wallet. Or, if need be, I can donate my spare bit coin wallet to the project. Its just sitting there, waiting on my slow a$$ to setup a mining machine.
 
You might want to actually see if hes willing before stirring up the community. Getting people to agree to donate and then go ask the dev if hes even interested is bad practice

Hes a very busy guy and devs for a lot of phones

My thoughts exactly. I'm only in if PlayfulGod is willing to accept.
 
eh, its boring around here anyway we could use a little scandal lol. but yea, i figured worst case scenario we would just have to find another way to pay for it and get it to pg, the only thing i wasnt sure about was whether he would be willing to accept the donations himself and then make the purchase using them

anyway though, yea so we need to work out how much everyone can contribute to the $35 goal, once we reach that plus however much it might end up costing pg to claim it we can organize the actual fund transfer
 
prolly work better if the $$ was pooled to purchase the phone and then sent to me. But as long as everyone is in agreement, I have no issues with how its done. ;)
 
lol yea probably, i would take the donations and pool them but i cant access any funds given to me kuz i dont have a bank account linked to paypal

but i figure this can work if we do it like this

first of all you will have to keep tabs on this thread if youre going to pledge, check it at least once a day for word to send the donation

second you will need to pm me your email that is associated with the paypal account youre going to be donating from so we can effectively keep track of where donations are coming from. dont want them getting mixed up with any other donations recieved that day, and i dont wanna have people making promises they dont keep either

and honestly you might as well just send me the donation amounts in a pm as well that way we arent putting everybody out there. i dont want somebody feeling bad kuz they only donated a dollar, and i dont want anybody being targeted for handouts kuz they donated more than anyone else

if anyone has a better idea im all ears but this is the best way i can think of to organize it short of combining it somewhere else and then having to transfer it to pg. if you guys want to go that route speak now but i figure this should work out alright
 
well i get paid on friday and i'm willing to throw a $20 at it...i'm not sure if it would make it any easier but I'm an ebay seller with a paypal business account so it may be easier just to buy it and have it shipped straight to him...idk just saying

And junkie ebay accepts paypal. ;)
 
That sounds good to me, Junkie. I dont mind if it goes directly to PG, or you middleman. As long as the end-point is achieved.

Also, look into a contingency. That eBay post may no longer be available when we get enough donations...


Edit: Seems this idea is taking off. Lets snatch this phone up while we can. Everyone willing to chip in so that PG can get it fixed, as well?
 
right, there are slightly more expensive ones, sadly in worse condition... thats why im not just having people toss money at him yet lol it could all fall through

I'm willing to donate to get him a fresh out of the box new one.

He's a well respected dev, a genuis with Android (I remember the work he did with bobzhome on the Optimus lineup!), and I know things would get accomplished with him able to work his wizardry lol
 
well, fresh out of the box is gonna cost significantly more. they still go for around $100, and correct me if im wrong pg but i dont think he plans on using it for anything other than testing so that cracked screen shouldnt make any real difference unless you think itd be too hard to see or use as it is

and yea as i said i cant claim the funds so me pooling it isnt an option. if you guys wanna work out something amongst yourselves thats perfectly fine too. i dont care how it gets there as long as it does

Well, if it has to be done by a third party (even if it was junkie), I would want a mediator. PayPal offers it, so use it. Its a bit of extra security for exactly this reason.

I much prefer it going to PG's PayPal account if he has one.

In my area, I can get the Sequent for about $110 out the door non-activated. That's not too much to accomplish. Even just to say you had PG working on our trash budget phone.

Then again... Doing all this just lets ZTE steal all his hard work and publish it as theirs...
 
I'm definately going to need PG's help, so as soon as you figure something out, let me know, or PG just message me and I will send you some cash for the phone. I don't trust the whole paypal thing, i will send you a money order .
 
I'm in for $10.00

PayPal is my preferred trusted method to send money.

Directly to PG, or intermediary at PayPal itself is fine.

And I'm OK, with any $ leftover, buying a developer a cup of coffee, or a Burger.
 
yea the initiative kinda fell apart. the options for available phones dwindled down to one really badly beat up $45 phone. the screen on that thing wouldnt even be readable on top of the fact that it was more expensive
 
I see a few units going on eBay. Anywhere from $80 to $22 (with no buy it now option).

Anyway, I'm still open to this idea, if the rest of the community is as well.
