For those of us trying to get the lowest possible initial cost on our phones, here are two things that I have done:

1. I am not the primary on a family share plan (boyfriend b/c his employee discount is bigger, but he doesn't have a smart phone), so I don't get the additional NE2 discount. I called and VERY NICELY spoke a sympathetic customer service rep. I told her that even though I am the secondary line, my phone includes data and so I am the most expensive line. She offered to switch to me the primary, but I don't get the discount until the next go around. I then told her that I hated doing this and I feel a little tacky saying it, but that I get a significant employee discount through Sprint and they have a phone coming out this summer I'm very interested in. I would prefer to stay with Verizon because of the coverage and the service I have received, so I was hoping that they would be willing to work with me. So she offered me the NE2 discount because I have been a longtime customer. She also said that I would need to do order it with them over the phone which means I don't get the instant rebate. With phone orders, she said you still have to mail in your rebate. She said I could do it online and then speak with them to credit back the money to my account. Same with in-store purchase. I asked her if I could take care of it at Best Buy and she said probably not, but it's up to them.
  • I called Best Buy, and again spoke to them VERY NICELY, and explained my situation to them. Told them I had always purchased my phones from Best Buy and would prefer to continue to do so. She checked my account and found the note from the Verizon Rep and she said that they could apply it, no problem. Again, it's technically not a NE2 discount so maybe that is why they were able to do this, it's just a courtesy credit.
2. For those of you who are willing to part with your old phones, I have found the Best Buy Trade In program to be pretty solid. You enter in your phone information including it's state of general wear and tear and you either get a Best Buy gift card for its return value, or you get a check of a lesser value. I mean, if your phone is still largely legit, you will make more money selling it on Ebay, obviously. But for me, my Blackberry Storm keeps shutting down, it's battery is pretty much shot. I'd feel pretty bad selling it. I'd rather recycle it through Best Buy. I will get $33 for my Storm!

Note: Some Best Buys require that you have bought your old phone at Best Buy, but a lot of them don't.

DUDE!!! Thank you soooo much! I was gonna sell my phone for 30 bucks to a friend...this got me 121 for my mytouch 3g!!!! You SAVED me!

Why do people always have to find something to be mad about?

WHERES THE LEAKED SPECS! IM MAD!!

HOW COME VERIZON ISNT ANNOUNCING THE PHONE!?!? IM MAD!!

VERIZON ANNOUNCED THE PHONE!! IM MAD!

WHERE ARE VIDEOS!! IM MAD!

Then when the phone is out, some will be mad because it doesn't do their laundry for them.

HAHA, 5%? I have to pay 8.75%. when i get my incredible, i'll have to pay 7.5$ more than you on just tax. dontcha just love california?

I can't believe that Seattle is worse than CA, we have to pay 9.0%!! Effing ridiculous!! Don't even get me started on the cigarette tax, almost $8.00 a pack!

Does this sound correct? Me NE 2 isn't due 'till July, but I am eligible for my annual upgrade (promo price + $20). - All VZ reps have confirmed this.

However, I was told I could only do that early/annual upgrade online. Does this info seem correct?

Also, do you know if Best Buy can give me the same pricing?

Welcome replies from anyone with experience with this, or any VZ or BB employees.

I saw good luck getting Best Buy to actually do this. I own an indirect agent store and I know Best Buy uses the same system that we use. We have no way to see notes on accounts that Verizon reps put in. I'm not sure how that person said they saw the notes. Also, they way our system works and the way we get paid we wouldn't get the extra commission from the NE2 is we gave it to you on the secondary line. The only way we could let you use it on the secondary is if you were upgrading both phones at the same time, then it doesn't matter which one we use the credit on. If you're only upgrading the secondary and they give you the NE2 credit they will just be eating that money.

You can do an annual upgrade in stores or over the phone. I'm not 100% sure about Best Buy but I know regular indirect agents can do them.

So if I buy it at best buy, will verizon service my phone??

I used to work at an Authorized Verizon Retailer for 10 yrs. We constantly used to get people in the store that didnt buy the phone directly from Verizon corporate that would ask us to repair the phone for them because Verizon told them NO. I actually just spoke to my friend that owns the store yesterday about this because i was considering pre ordering from BB today. He confirmed with me that Verizon still gives people a hard time about this. He gets people that get their phones from BB all the time. I guess its a hit or miss.
