Root Want a ROM -- NEED HELP!

SwoRNLeaDejZ

OK, so I have had my Motion for quite a while now, and have been rooted since just after I got it.. I AM A NOOB. I have never put recovery on any phone, or a ROM for that matter, but I saw the there is a version of CM10 for our phone that is finally available, and I would like to try it..

Now I want to make sure that I do this CORRECTLY. I am going to backup all of my important stuff, downloads, photos, etc, and then I want to install the ROM.

I need to know step by step what I need to do. Which recovery should I use? I need exact steps on how to do this. I will be documenting the entire process via my YouTube channel once I build up the courage to do it all..

Please don't reply with bits and pieces of helpful knowledge... I would much rather, and appreciate, someone replying with a well thought out, helpful list of exactly what the most stable, predictable things to use are, and exactly what order I need to install everything.

I am pretty good with tutorials, and troubleshooting, not completely helpless, its just that the Root section of these forums contains a ton of people talking about a thousand different ways to do everything, so I would just like some streamlining, that's all.

Thanks in advance.

So what you would want to do is,
1) make sure you have 2int-LTE recovery istalled, if not. Go on the all things root forum and there should be a guide there to help you.
2) make a backup, I use nandroid backup(Instructions in app) from the play store, but you can make one from the 2int-LTE recovery menu
3) make sure you have BobzHome's newest version of build and gapps on your SD card.
4) reboot into recovery by opening the 2int app that should be installed on your phone by now.
5) hit the home button and make sure the top says that you're on external SD
6) go into advanced and wipe dalvik cache
7) go back to the main menu, and then go into mounts and storage and wipe data
8) Now select install zip from SD card, and select BobZhome's version and then install Gaaps,
Now reboot and enjoy :)

The recovery is located here http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-all-things-root/665972-985hpakick-2nd-init-recovery.html jus download it and install like a normal apk you can put it in ur system apps if you want. Power is to select and the volume rockers r for navigation and the back button is to go back and ur home is to switch frm internal to external. If you wanna use cm10 use the latest build i have no issues with it. You can find it here http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-all-things-root/709736-rom-wip-cm10-0-0-l0-bobz.html remember to use the latest build and download gapps as well and also look up VerC_Modem.zip in the thread ur gunna need it and when ur gunna flash all of it first make a backup up of ur current rom and everything on ur external sd card then ur gunna wipe data/factory reset once thas done then go to advanced>wipe dalvik cache>yes then ur gunna Format Data Mounts and storage >format/data>yes then install zip frm sd choose cm10 first then the modem then gapps and then after ur done hit reboot and ur done :)

Thanks for the replies fellas... Now i just need to dig deep, swallow, hope for courage, and just do it I guess... LOL

Would either of you recommend the ROM over the F firmware, with a Launcher to customize everything? Is it much better?

Thanks again.

I dont think it matters what firmware but i used firmware f when i flashed cm10 :)
What do u mean with a launcher to customize everything? O.o

Does anyone have a direct download for the latest gapps? The download says it is going to take 10 hours for 88 MB... wtf..

Nah, I found it, just finished flashing everything, is it normal for the Cyanogen Mod animation to be on the screen for a while when you reboot?

That wasn't the one I used, I copied the wrong link, I used the exact same name as the one in the CM10 post just got it somewhere else, that's my bad.. I will try to find the right link.

Anyone know why I can not access the External SD with File Manager after installing this?

Cuz its in a different location go to settings change to root access or something like that and then go backk and its in storage then go to sd card 1

Yeah i said that already, i copied the wrong link, I'll fix it.

I tried changing to the root access thing still doesn't work, can't access external sd

Worked, thank you :P

BTW, i am noticing quite a bit of good things about this ROM:

1. MUCH better battery life
2. Large number of apps that would not install before, do now.
3. Download and upload speeds on WiFi AND LTE are increased. WiFi speed seems almost double
4. Many other small things that are much better than ics
5. On the F firmware I was having random reboots all the time. Flashing this fixed that.
6. In the F firmware when I would try to download a file through the browser, 90% of the time the download would fail, flashing this also fixed that.

I highly recommend anyone with this phone get this, is well worth it

I've tried this rom numerous times, and just haven't been able to get the call volume setup loud enough. It is literally the only thing keeping me from running it on a permanent basis. I've tried just the basic flash setup with version c modem, are there any tricks I'm missing to get the volume to install properly? Formatting or not formatting certain partition pre or post flash?

See I haven't had any problems with the call volume or sound quality.. My calls sound great..

For some reason too, when I updated to the F firmware, my phone would randomly reboot all the time.. Flashing this fixed that, no more reboots.
