Root Feeling adventurous? Got an experiment for you

Not yet, let us know. :)

Granite, are you on Viper4G?

Yup, latest release.

Also I'm running the new Tapatalk4 beta. Works really well.

I'm going to switch over to the AF Tapa app for the rest of the day, and see if the refreshes etc are better.

Is it possible this has helped my YouTube on a slow connection?
Played the whole stream through without having to wait to load numerous times. Did it increase the buffer YouTube app would have available?

it would seem that yes with opening the shared memory max should allow it to store more memory faster than using the default as before.

It's cured a world of woes for me on a lot of apps.

MyBackup Pro doesn't choke on large zips with this and runs much faster.

Everything I can find cues faster, scrolls faster.

AF Tapa app works better, period. Not getting the non-responsive refreshes. Pages load better, hardly any lag.

:D

Just tried this and thought I'd give my 2 cents. It is a tad snappier in certain things, the biggest difference I've noticed is in the pulling down of the quick settings menu, used to have a jerkiness now smooth as silk. The main thing I tried was Google Maps, it crashed as quickly as it normally does when using 320, but on 384 I was able to get almost to street level before it crashed. Gonna play around a little more.

My misses is still running my OG, maybe if I can find some time, I'll experiment. :)

If you have a nandroid, you can't really bork anything permanently. ;)

Do you think it can be tweaked at all EM?

You can try but I don't expect much.

The Evo has far less ram.

Which rom please?

Sorry, thought I put that in my profile, just updated it. Viper4G v3.1.6.

Edit: Also noticed that someone said that he noticed a bump in free memory, I'm NOT seeing that, it's still the same as usual.

I said that - but it does seem dependent on which configuration and other apps running. It does change around the memory used by the kernel vs. memory used by user apps when memory stays about the same.

Also, and I'm updating the op for this, it sometimes glitches and doesn't store the change you enter, so it's good to check the value by inspecting it in Android Tuner after your first reboot.

Another update for you: On closer inspection this doesn't seem to do anything on my phone. I even moved it all the way down to 64 and all the way up to 1gig and saw no change in behavior, and yes the changes did stick. Weird? Could it be the Bulletproof kernel I'm using? Maybe it just won't allow those kinds of things? Hmmm. I'll check on that later by switching kernels, maybe in a few days, right now I'm running tests trying to locate a glitching app using this current config. My widgets keep freezing for some reason, I checked around the net and saw that a lot of other people were having the same problem and it was due to the new way the play store installs paid apps in jelly bean, the work around for it was to install those paid apps by side loading them. Well, that didn't "fix" my problem. My first test was to run it stock with just a few of my main apps for about a week, and sure enough no freezing, but I also noticed a "new" play store, so I thought maybe they had just fixed the problem. But after I loaded all my other apps, got everything setup just right and was ready for a system backup, BAM another freeze. It's weird too, because all the widgets freeze (and disappear after a reboot), even google widgets, the only unaffected widget is the htc calendar, go figure. That's gotta be a clue, but what it's trying to tell me, I don't know. I'm rambling, SOMEBODY STOP ME! :-D

Yeah, I just added an addendum up top after helping someone at XDA.

A custom kernel can and often will set this as a tuning parameter that you can't change or get to easily.

Sorry I forgot to take that into account. :o

How is the Play Store loading apps differently in Jellybean?

System apps go to /system/app and user apps and updates go to /data/app, same as it's ever been.

I never noticed any issues with sleep on 320.

I'll bounce back to 320 this evening and keep an eye on things.

GSAM battery monitor what you recommend?

Oh, yeah. I didn't start experimenting with different kernels til after this problem. Believe me when I have any kind of issues, the very 1st thing I check is if the problem also appears when on stock.

I've had this problem ever since I upgraded to JB, which was about February, I've just been dealing with it cause I didn't have the time to trace the problem. I work for Fulton County Schools, so since we are now on summer vacation I have all the time I need to figure this out and also do some other experiments I've been wanting to do (2 and a half months to be exact). Then I can setup my "final" & "perfect" installation.

Been running my Motorola Razr M with this set up at 256 from the initial 32 and it seems to run very smooth no known issues that I am aware of. I also did the 1 click to see how that does and again no ill affects

Ok, seems I do have quite a few wakelocks on 320. I didn't notice before.
