To get the lg motion or not

Well I've been using a cheap att flip phone since my anthem got lost. When I got the anthem I was really considering the motion. So there's an in-store deal going on. Is the motion a good choice. Would love the spirit. But that's not happening right now. After been reading through the threads here and I'm kinda nervous. Seems like everyone loves the mention but I am reading what seems like a lot of bad things about this phone...so whats the deal? is it a decent phone? I actually hated the anthem. But going back to a flip phone has me missing an android lol.

thanks :)

It's super fast, ICS, and $50..

The drawbacks are that it's essentially EOL, has a locked bootloader which limits custom kernels, the small screen, and that there have been some electrical issues.

I bought mine at full price, and haven't regretted it. If I'd had the money, I'd have gone with the SG3, but I'm happy with my motion.

IF you play hardball with them and get the Motion on your current account for $50 do that, you can't beat that. Remember it's got a years warranty for replacement by Metro.

At the full price it's not such a deal anymore.

The LG Motion is $149.00 on the Metro PCS web site.
Might as well spend the extra coin and buy a LG Spirit.
which is $219.00 after Mail-In Rebate.

She can get the Motion for $50 (I am almost positive) if she'll just go to a corporate store and push the issue.

She can walk in, tell them to deactivate her current account immediately, then immediately activate a new account. That makes her okiedokie for the $50 deal. Then she has them port over her old number.

If I were her, I'd tell the corporate store MANAGER that Instead, I'd pay the same $15 activate fee (so they get their goodie) and they give me the $50 deal with my old number and let's save all the extra effort.

Either way I can't see her not getting the $50 phone.

Also, there ISN'T any Spirit rebate. It's a "rebate" for adding another line which she doesn't get if she doesn't do.

I very recently bought this phone for $150. What gives with this $50 thing?

So I got the huawei premia instead....still second guessing if I should have gotten the motion. Help me out. I do like the bigger screen. But is the half inch difference much difference?

ZTE and Huawai are out of the question for me no matter What phone they come out with.

There is more than ample evidence both companies are owned by the government of China.

It is an Established Fact that Chinese As We Type here are conducting cyber-espionage on both private companies in the U.S. to steal trade secrets AND worse yet on our public infrastructure giving them some abilities to disrupt those. These would be potential Acts of War were they not being accomplished behind "cloaks of secrecy" and a keyboard. (And if we already didn't owe our souls to China in loan payments.)

I want a good deal as much if not more than the next guy.

NO Deal is worth handing my U.S. money to country that is known to be actively attacking the U.S. (And that's even BEFORE we start talking about their atrocities on Their Own people.)

Wrong. You don't have a year's warranty through MetroPCS. You have 30 days to replace the phone with a refurbished one from them if they have it in stock. If not you will have to wait 3-5 business days for them to order you a new "refurbished" phone. At the current, and i just learned this the hard way..My phone is only 4 months old. I bought it and activated it 2/13/13..as of 6/5/13 its dead. It won't power on, no emergency mode, no hard reset, no nothing. So i went to my local "corporate" store of MetroPCS(who sells cellular phones but not one corporate store in the philadelphia market has a direct number to their stores) where i spoke to an associate who told me, "your phone won't power on"...glad she's getting paid to tell me the obvious. Anyway, she also told me that because i had the phone for more then 30 days i would now have to pay $30 to replace it. Now thats the price if i want it to get shipped to the store...where i can pick it up in 3-5 days. If not i can have it sent directly to my house for $30 replacement fee PLUS an additional $15 in shipping costs. Contacting LG is pointless and useless it will get you no where unless you want to pay the shipping fees and expenses for them to have your phone for up to 3-4 weeks(before you finally have it back in hand). So the 1 year warranty...really isn't a year. You have 30 days.

Now this sucks for 2 reasons...for one you have to wait for your replacement device to come, 3-5 business days...mine was ordered on a thursday..(you can understand my frustrations at this point) so by the time my new phone comes in...ill owe the 30 to replace my phone, my bills due right around the same day if not 1 after the phone should be in...now there's another 50. Now i'm up to 80 bucks to pay my bill and replace this pos i thought was an otherwise damn good phone. Here's the real kick in the face: MetroPCS at this point in time Right now! Is selling the Motion, Premia and 1 other unit for $29.99 with an instant $120 dollar instant rebate, mostly because they are anticipated to be releasing there upcoming line of GSM units this month...June 12th i believe, Now with that being said...I have to wait until next week to pay for my replacement "refurbished" phone and my bill at the same time...80 bucks. Now i can simply walk into any corporate(because remember they have no phone numbers at the stores that sell cell phones) or any authorized retailer and buy a new LG Motion 4g for $29.00...plus my first months bill. Round it up a buck..minus any taxes and fees etc etc..I'm at 80 bucks. Right? The drawback is i'll have to change my number...at this point it just makes sense to replace the phone with a new unit at 80 with my first months bill a the same time walking out the store with a new phone, new number and i'm good to go. Otherwise i can wait a week and go back and get my new "refurbished" phone and keep the same number for the same price. More or less.

Right now...there 29.99...with the instant rebate for people who don't mind changing there numbers. Definitely a deal for those of you..or i...whose phone has potentially been fried to a Chinese car charger purchased at walmart and or anyone of the known electrical problems in the phone.

At this point its kind of a toss as to what I would do..But the point of all this is to tell you that the 1 year warranty you THINK you have through MetroPCS and or the manufacturer LG...you do not. Either way your still having to pay a replacement fee to replace the unit. Unless it some how takes a dump on you in the first 30 days, in which case i wouldn't likely replace the phone that lasted you a month with the same unit.

Just be careful and mindful of what you buy and do your research. I myself will probably wait a week to see the new line of GSM units and potentially get myself one of those if its worth it.

But don't ever get it based on just the fact that you have a 1 year warranty...you definitely do not. It says so on the box,...says so in the terms and conditions found in the back of the user manual...sure enough i've seen it also...but it doesn't exist when its time for MetroPCS or LG to honor said warranty.:mad::mad:

Lg backs the warranty.they have repaired 2 of my phones.i just had to pay one way shipping

They will REPAIR the phone just as you said they will. But i was told at a corporate MetroPCS store that i could just contact them for a replacement. Perhaps the associate just has her head up her a** but she read and showed me this information on a small what seemed like a printed flyer. So i did Just that. I contacted the LG support live chat. They told me I would have to go to MetroPCS to have the phone repaired AND OR replaced.

Perhaps I was just unlucky enough to find the one online live chat associate and direct supervisor from LG that didn't get the memo. Along with the one associate from MetroPCS's corporate store that didn't know what she was talking about as well...It happens.

I'm glad they did fix it for you but i was told they would have it up to 4 weeks. As i don't have a back up phone to use because i was a nice guy and gave it to my buddy's girlfriend...i'm basically SOL. But in my case and at this present time for the month of June it just makes more sense for me to take it across the face for the loss of my cell number and get a new phone and a new number for the same price it would be to replace my phone with a "new refurbished" unit. I'm still confused as to why they keep putting the words "new" and "refurbished" together...but at this point its water under the bridge and probably way easier to just go get a new unit for the same price.

I'm just really anxious, like many to have my phone, its like losing a limb and i need it for work. However I'm also trying to patiently anticipate the release of the new GSM units "supposedly" going to be on sale in stores June 12th. Lets keep our fingers crossed for this!

With any luck they will also sell SIM cards like tmobile and we can start just using our unlocked devices instead of having to buy a new phone from metro themselves. From what i understand it won't be all that limited...the only ones who will probably not be supported in this new expansion of the GSM line up and service at the start, from my understanding, is the crackberry users. As a droid user i'm good :)

But i'm glad they did fix your phone for you. How long did it take from the time you sent it to them to the time you got it back?

Lg guaranties a day turn around on thier warranty service
I sent mine ground shipping
Took 4 days to get there and was on its way back in 4 days

I thinks its awesome phone even with locked bootloader
Am just afraid of this charging issue
So many motions having issues
Seems to ocurr while charging

I can't argue and or dispute that with you one bit. For the price and for what it has and what it does...its extremely quick, has ICS, and 5Gb of internal space! I mean you can't beat that!

The only downside i have with this particular phone itself is just that...the charging issues. I really wouldn't mind another Motion as it is a really nice phone for the price..i mean right now for the month of June its 29 bucks! Def a deal! But the charging issues and the chance it could fry up and be done at any time is really the thing that's making me apprehensive about getting another one.

I'm strongly considering holding out to see what the new GSM line of phones will look like an what kind of specs they offer...but lets face it not having a phone is like not having my car..i need both for work. So at this point even though i like the motion..I'm currently pondering the fact that i may have to just go get another one...like today or tomorrow...but I'm also considering maybe switching to the Premia...slightly less battery time and less internal storage but i wouldn't have the worry of the charging issues.

I have three of the motions
But metro has a sale on the two other phones for 29 dollars
Gonna research those
It would be nice to have one phone thats completly modifiable

I'm actively stuck in the same situation. I can go to a local "authorized dealer" in town and pick one up...As i like the Motion..Im really stuck between the other two as well. Being that they are both 30 bucks i can't go wrong either way...but i know if i get another motion i'm potentially just buying my time before another charging issue?

I'm really actively leaning toward the Premia at current, But if the Avid had Gorilla glass i'd be all over it. I firmly believe that's what prevented me from cracking mine quite a few times as i often shove it in my back pocket like a wallet when im not using it....Now that i just re read the specs...I think instead of the Premia I may go with the Avid...The battery life is slightly better and its only .3Gb's of internal space over the Premia...which can easily be made up with the use of damn near any size of SD card. Currently I have a 16GB card...so if i did go with the Premia i wouldn't notice the minimal loss in internal storage as i typically like to store everything on the SD card rather then the internal if i have the option.

Wrong. You don't have a year's warranty through MetroPCS. :

Don't tell me I wrong when I said the same damn thing everyone in this forum KNOWS to be true.

Just because it didn't work out that way for YOU does not make it not so.

Your experience is just One against a BRAZEELYUN that went the other way.

I believe the 1 year warranty is through lg.
After a month and you still have service metro may negiotiate the warranty with lg
Or simply give you a refurb or new then get replaced from kg
I maybe wrong though

I've been told in writing by Metro on Faceplant to take my Wirefly Spirit to a Metro store if warranty work is needed.

That's good enough for me.

It'll either be twue or I'll beat Metro senseless with their own writing when I'm told it's not. :D

Bruce in Ocala, FL

I think you should just beat them senseless anyways

Metro hasn't done anything to me to deserve that.

(Though I have taken them behind the barn on Faceplant and put the stun gun to them a little bit. :D )

On the other hand, if I got some ration of dawgie poopay like Kiibz said he was fed, I'd have to go all Incredible Hulk Crazy Ass Honey Badger on them.

This is a mid range phone, so don't expect to get all the features available with today's technology. Actually there's quite a bit it can't do, and a lot off apps it can't access. That being said, if you're looking for only a slight upgrade for a decent price, this will definitely hold you over. It's snappy and whatever it can do, it does well. Flash player on the browser is one of my favorite features of ics not available on jb. I got my motion in November of last 2012. I'm ready for a real upgrade with ALL the fixens of today's technology. Something that will hold me over for a couple years at least, the same way my first android held me down. Although I will miss watching flash movies online when I make the move to jb, but I guess it's inevitable.

It would make me want to gouge out my eyes and pound my hands with a hammer to own one of those two Chinese phones but man, that Motion screen sure is small.

Damn sure is the winner other than that though.

Still wrong. And i posted as to why it is wrong. You only have a 1 year warranty on the phone through LG to repair the unit. You have 30 days through MetroPCS should you have a problem and need it exchanged through them for no cost. After 30 days then you have to pay (whatever fee it is) that they want to replace the unit. When you said "you have a years warranty on the phone" you didn't specify weather or not it was a years warranty to get a free replacement and or to have it repaired.

So lets clarify. LG - You have one year to have it repaired...LG will NOT replace them as they are only the manufacturer and they do not sell the phones and or stock them. They just merely make the phone and the hardware inside of it.

MetroPCS will replace the phone if it cannot be repaired...either reflash the firmware, etc etc. But with in the FIRST 30 DAYS you can get a free replacement. After that time there is a fee associated with replacing your phone. Metro will still repair and or replace the phone with in that one year period. What fee they will charge for what phone to replace is anyones guess...especially at a time like now when the phone in question brand new is only 29 bucks...its going to cost me the same amount to get a "refurbished" phone. Right on both accords. You do have a year with both of them...but LG will repair it, NOT replace it. MetroPCS will attempt repair,..if not possible, they will replace it..at a cost.

Perhaps neither of us specifically clarified the details and specifics of the warranties offered by both manufacturer and or the carrier.

As a consumer, who is offered a warranty, like many, i assume if i have a problem i can take it back in a year, barring i didn't do anything to directly violate the terms of said warranty, and get a new phone at no cost. Perhaps i was just misunderstanding the terms of the warranty.

Either way, at this point, Motion, Premia, and Avid are all 30 dollars. Not a bad deal considering your getting a new phone for 30 bucks...I drove by my local "authorized retailer" and instead of offering the instant $120 savings to make the phone 29$ they are offering to save "$100 dollars instantly"...no big deal...i can still go to a corporate store 3 miles away and still get it for $29 bucks.

Basically the moral of all this is a few things, One make sure you fully understand the terms and conditions of your warranty. If you spend a little time to shop around and do your research you can get deals. Most importantly, CHECK ANDROID FORUMS frequently...had i done so i would have seen that the Chinese car charger i have is what killed my phone. Had i seen that sooner i could have thrown it out. Mine was manufactured by a company called "Just Wireless"...not so sure it was chinese but its definitely not, LG, Motorola, Samsung, etc.. But i learned my lesson.

Now its off to the corporate store to get a new phone. Just not sure as to weather or not it'll be a Premia,...or a Motion i'll NEVER charge in my car. I'll figure that out in the short 3 mile drive to the store and perhaps report back here later...

In the mean time, thank you to all of you who helped me figure out what was wrong with this phone and how it could have been prevented. Many of you help tons of people daily and don't even know it...simply because people will see the post and read the thread without ever signing up, saying thank you and or donating. Well i want to personally say thank you for all the help you have given me over the last 3-4 years. Its greatly appreciated!!

Thanks again guys!
