Metro PCS Switching to GSM phones end of next month!

I have the motion running cm10. I'm happy with it and all, but there are a few things it simply can't do (like connect to hdmi) so I was considering going for the s3. So I went to a metro store, and for the first time there was a manager there that knew what he was talking about! I had asked a few questions, and to make a long story short: he said that by the end of next month they're getting new phones added and that they are switching over to gsm models. Including the gsm s3. Also he said that at the end of this month all of their current models are gonna see price drops as they try to purge their current stock. Now, for those who don't know the benefits of having a gsm phone just do a little research. But I think my whole point of this thread is to inform those who are considering upgrading that it will pay off to wait just a bit longer. Even if you don't care about gsm, hold off for the sales around the corner!

Hey mai8ko,

That's very interesting news for MetroPCS; therefore, I moved it to the MetroPCS forum.

Cheers :D

I also want a GSM Metro phone :)
When can I buy a SIM so I can use my GSM devices already??? :D:D

If they really want to clear the shelves they should also make the offers good for existing customers as well and not just for new lines. I do want a GSM phone but if they did an insane price drop on the LG Spirit like they did on the Motion I would definitely pick one up to hold me over until the Nexus 5 or Moto X debuts.

But they already got us? the money isn't the phones so i get yah.

all these things are being discussed for a week already and the exact date is june 12 u may enlighten him if you want lol. and its not the gsm s3 its the gsm s4 enlighten him about that too. ;)

I went to the corp. Store to get two lg spirits, was told about the sale prices are for new customers. Quoted me $288ea after tax. So i ordered two from amazon for $219ea, no tax and free two day shipping. Ordered sat., got'em Monday. *228 'em and I'm up and running. And I didn't have to wait four months for a rebate.

The date is not the same for all cities. Here in NY, it's still not yet available until July. As for the gsm s3, that's what the site rep told me, but they are known to be wrong. Either way, you could always bring the gsm s3 to get a Sim card from them.

well seems like all dates have been held back due to more testing in selected areas so no confirm date are valid anymore. also the gsm gs3 from metro is $400 and is being sold in vegas and those other selected cities.

And that makes us all have more time to save for that we want

Thanks! But :(

Not surprised, tmobiles got a lot on its plate
  1. Rollout LTE
  2. Refarm HSPA+
  3. Go back and check LTE quality
  4. Rollout new Simple Choice plans.
  5. Train employees for #4
  6. Rollout Metro BYOD
  7. Train metro employees for #6
  8. Combine LTE networks
  9. And pretty soon start rolling out LTE-Advanced
Engineers are pretty limited right now too with Sprint redoing their whole network with Network Vision and the others still doing LTE rollout.
Well looking back that's no biggie

Lmao ya Gman they got us so expecting great things we forget how much work is required to get it right.

with lte popping up so many places all of a sudden everyone wants it now.

Will MetroPCS release S4 or... HTC One? for GSM? When?

Will MetroPCS change its price structure?

There was never anything said about HTC one coming for metro...... But when the byod plan is released on all markets that won't matter.

Info like that makes me really thankful for AF. Thanks Yall!

It's easy to get the wrong stuff if you don't know and this place is GREAT for good info.

(Of course, you'd have to be flamin' stick your tongue in a light socket, cooked up with it, stupid to spend that kind of $ without researching it, but I'm sure there's some of those people out there. :p )

ya I read about that a while ago and thought what the hell were they thinking, they should have used the t mobile version for it, it should be compatible with both tmo and att.

However I come to the conclusion, after thinking it over, they just grabbed the dev edition of the htc one, already unlocked bootloader and few other things, but for some reason htc decided to screw over tmo customers by not having tmo aws in that phone.

However the good news.

I would bet it wont be long before they ( and by they I mean XDA devs) have the play store edition ported over to the tmo edition.:p
